Graphic Design Contest - Obama Gaffes (CONTEST CLOSED)
By absentee Posted in Blogosphere | Graphic Design Contests — Comments (95) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

Ladies, Gentlemen, and gamecock, welcome to the first of several RedState graphic design contests!
If you don't know what this is all about, click here.
Good? Ok, so this time, the contest theme is (imagine musical fanfare here):
OBAMA GAFFES
Barack Obama is a walking gaffe machine. From misplaced states, to overblown death tolls, to rewriting World Wars, the Illinois youngster seems to think to err is divine. It happens so often, in fact, that we'd like to have a way to identify gaffe blogs thematically.
That's where you come in. This contest is for a logo for OBAMA GAFFES, to be used as a topic identifier. We are especially interested in logos which incorporate the Obama campaign symbol (see below) and the word "OOPS". Please keep the guidelines in mind.
Prizes and additional info below the fold.
PRIZES:
A nifty hat from the RedState Gear Shop, and the undying pride of having won!
MISCELLANEOUS INFO:
Obama Logo:

That's it. Good luck!
>> ps: If you submit an entry, please also recommend the blog.
I think that is the funniest thing I have ever seen on Redstate..
the RNC needs to hire you STAT..
if we could just run tv ads with all of his gaffes it would start to chip away with his "wow obama is the smartest man on the planet" shtick..
"Small town folks get bitter after which they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment"- Barack Carter Obama

I think I did it again
I made you believe we're more than just friends
Oh baby
It might seem like a crush
But it doesn't mean that I'm serious
'Cause to lose all my senses
That is just so typically me

I am sure that Rush could probably parody it better, but here is my go with Brtiney Spear's "Oops! ...I Did It Again"
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
I think I did it again
I made you believe we're more than just friends
Oh baby
It might seem like a crush
But it doesn't mean that I'm serious
'Cause to lose all my senses
That is just so typically me
Oh baby, baby
[CHORUS:]
Oops!...I did it again
I played with your heart, got lost in the game
Oh baby, baby
Oops!...You think I'm in love
That I'm sent from above
I'm not *your president*
You see my problem is this
I'm dreaming away
Wishing that heroes, they truly exist
I cry, watching the days
Can't you see I'm a fool in so many ways
But to lose all my senses
That is just so typically me
Baby, oh
[Repeat CHORUS]
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
"All aboard"
"*Barack*, before you go, there's something I want you to have"
"Oh, it's beautiful, but wait a minute, isn't this...?"
"Yeah, yes it is"
"But I thought *threw the old lady under the bus* in the end"
"Well baby, I went down and got it for you"
"Oh, you shouldn't have"
Oops!...I did it again to your heart
Got lost in this game, oh baby
Oops!...You think that I'm sent from above
I'm not *your president*

I found that the font Calisto MT on my XP machine was very close to the Obama font.
I think that a very significant portion, if not a majority of voters would support Obama's quote. I personally think it is reasonable. It could be argued that any attack on the US in which a nuclear responce would be required would be something that would not happen in the first place because it would require incredible acts of stupididy on the attacking government such that it would never happen.
Other wise we ever nuked someplace else it would be a PR disaster for the US (economic sanctions, war crimes tribunals, etc...). Many people would also like the fact that the quote seems to show that Obama would not be 'trigger-happy'
Just because BO won't nuke anyone doesn't mean that B-52s will go on sale in an Obama administration...
To me, a gaffe usually implies saying something false or completely unreasonable. This seems to be neither.
Unless you are deriding Obama for failure to anticipate what happened if a comet was on a collision couce with earth....
The whole point of deterrence is that an attack on the US would be suicidal. What you and Obama are saying, is that it would not be suicidal.
Obama's statement is making us less safe even if he loses.
Signaling that we will use less force than our enemies is not particularly smart.
Lots of things "never happen" until they do.
The PR disaster would be a New York City obliterated and a US military response consisting of highly targetted smart bombs.
What good is a nuclear "deterrence" if the CIC says we will never use it?
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777
And it's sad that you'd even have to explain that...
The Unofficial RedState FAQ
“You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say. ” - Martin Luther
If you were the leader of a foreign country that wanted to massively attack the US would you risk nuclear winter because you don't think Obama would be capable of flip-flopping?
I wouldn't.
Your general point about deterrence is still mostly valid though, I was just saying that at least a significant minority will not see this as a gaffe and therefore that this graphic art would not be veruy effective.
"I was just saying that at least a significant minority will not see this as a gaffe and therefore that this graphic art would not be veruy effective."
I really don't care much about the opinion of people who would not find this a gaffe. The art I made is for consumption of us gun loving, God fearing, red blooded conservatives on RS. If Obama were to come out of the closet and declare his true Marxist beliefs, I know for sure there are some in this country who would find him even more attractive...the same I'm sure find his statement about never using nukes attractive. The whole idea behind the deterrant thing is to have it, but hopefully never use it. I worked in the 15th Air Force command post (SAC) when I was in the Air Force. My shop provided secure communications to nuclear forces (bombers and missle silos). All I can say is I'm very proud of the work I did and never felt the slightest guilt that I was part of our nations incredible kickass war machine! I have 5 children and a grand child now. If we let down our guard, they may not have a future! It is unfortunate, but in this crazy world, we have to be prepared for the unthinkable.
"If you were the leader of a foreign country that wanted to massively attack the US would you risk nuclear winter because you don't think Obama would be capable of flip-flopping?
I wouldn't."
As for a leader of a foreign country not attacking us for fear of nuclear winter, I think the incredible heat of nukes melting his country into glass is much more of a deterrant. I'm not worried about the larger more 'sane' countries attacking us. It is the suicidal terrorist who manages to get a device into one of our large cities that really worries me. It is very possible that such an incident could start WWIII (all out nuclear war)...about the worst thing I can think of.
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room"
President Merkin Muffley
and did your best to cover your tracks.
The point is, it took Nixon to go to China. In Reagan had said this in the current context, it would be fine. However, Obama comes across as the biggest wuss since Jimmy Carter. He needs to constantly try to project strength since all he has projected until now is weakness.
McCain could get away with saying that we wouldn't necessarily use nuclear weapons in responding to a nuclear attack, but for Obama to say per se no use is a BIG mistake.
That is what I meant by my statement that such a terrorist attack could cause WWIII. I just didn't want to have to type all this stuff! In the immediate aftermath of such a 'terrorist' attack, this country would be in a state of complete chaos. The military would be trying to figure out the nature of the blast, how it was delivered, and by whom. Did someone sneak a cruise missle under our radar shield? Did a small aircraft detonate the weapon? Where the Hell did it come from? Are there more comming? If so, by what means? Was this an attack sponsored by one of the big boys to try and disguise its origin (nuke given to terrorist by unfriendly country)? Will some large unfriendly country take advantage of our confused state and preceived weakness and launch their own attack? Will a large unfriendly country believe that we are going to launch an all out retaliation because we were hit, and go ahead and launch at us? Believe me, I have given this a lot of thought, and to me it is the worst senario I can imagine. That is why I believe we need very tight border and port security, anti-missile systems, robust monitoring and analysis of terrorist communications, and a military strong enough to protect this antion against ANY threat. It is a dangerous world and history shows that the meek and weak get their butts kicked.
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room"
President Merkin Muffley
by outlining a situation where BHO would use nuclear weapons and classifying it as "flip-flopping" really highlights why Obama should have never used an absolute.
It's a gaffe to me! To say you'd never use nukes takes away any deterrant effect they have on would be attackers. What is the point in having them? Might as well sell the B-52s and everything else that is nuclear capable. SAC's motto used to be 'Peace is our profession". SAC and the Navy's boomers did an outstanding job, and we haven't had a nuclear war (exception WWII). No sane person wants war, but to prevent it, we have to be ready to unleash living Hell on anyone who threatens us.

1. Yes in fact I probably spend far too much time on the internet especially looking at political blogs.
2. Yes, in fact, I just finished taking a US History class this year. As I'm typing this, I actually have my history textbook right next to me.
3. To find out the opinions of other people who have differing ideologies than me. I reespect other people's opinions, and since I started reading Redstate I have a much better understanding of what conservatism really is. I mostly lurk at this site but occasionally decide to comment on a whim.
You are welcome here. I suggest an even more accurate description for you, besides amoderate, would be a moderate young student.
I'd like to see more young people like you who exercise their curiousity in order to learn more about what the people outside their immediate circle actually think.
Hello amoderate, I too am glad you are here. There are a lot of crusty old conservatives on this site (like me), a lot who have served in the military (like me), have a clear recollection of the cold war, duck and cover movies from grammar school, and remember the tensions we had with the Soviet Union. Hopefully your history class taught you some things of value. It is always easy to look back on history and find where blatant mistakes were made that led to war. The Cuban missile crisis was a real close one. There was another time back in the early '80s we almost had a war with the Soviets, and did not know about it until weeks afterwards (we had bad intelligence). There was a recent documentary on it on the science or discovery channel. I won't get in to what happened, but the USSR almost launched an attack on us because they thought we were about to attack them. It really could have happened. My point is that nuclear deterrence is a well thought out strategy, and those responsible for our forces understand the consequences of a nuclear war all to well. Obama has shown a complete lack of understand of what this is all about. To say you would never, under any circumstances use nukes takes away their deterrent factor. The fact is we are not the only country with nukes and we have to make sure that any country who has them knows we will launch if attacked. It is the only thing that has kept us safe. Some people say no country would ever use them because the rest of the world would be outraged at them for doing it. I don't think China really cares much what other countries say or think about what they do. There is so much evidence of their human rights abuses and the Tibet occupation to point out as examples. Anyhow, thanks for being here, this is a really good place to learn more about conservatism and conservatives.
Here is a video of Obama's plan for the military.

Actually, a gaffe is usually a social blunder or faux pas, perhaps a blatant mistake or misjudgment... I think it is a misjudgement to say that it would be a "profound mistake" to use nuclear weapons in any circumstance. That's just ridiculous, if you ask me. I mean, is he serious? If we were attacked by nuclear force, he wouldn't strike back because it would be a "profound mistake?" At least Billary says she'd nuke Iran if Israel were nuked... or so she says.
Conservative Californian (isn't that some kind of oxymoron?)
I think it was a gaffe caused by a misjudgement. I'm sure he regrets saying it, even if he really believes it. One man's gaffe is another man's faux pas, is another man's misjudgement...

If he can get 10,000 from 12 and 57 from 50, imagine how many people he thinks are at his rallies!
I had to go the "Messiah shtick" route with this contest. Sooner or later cognitive dissonance is going to set in and his supporters will have to begin making excuses for how the Apostle of HopeChange knows so little about the nation he was sent to redeem. My theory? They will explain that it is all part of some elaborate scheme to show us he still makes mistakes like us lesser beings, so we will be comfortable in his presence.

It has that nice deer-in-headlights look he'll bring when sitting across the table from the dictatorial crew.
The top most "poster" entry, the "deer in the headlights" submission, is very well done.

I consider this to be more of a concept than an entry. I'm sure someone with more talent could make it work. It should also have a tagline, like "Let's try that again," or something.
