Maybe feeling his oats from his recent surge in the polls John McCain called out Mitt Romney today. Romney "latest" claim is that he is the only real Republican in the race. I guess when you tell lies enough you begin to belive it is true. Nevermind that Romney has switched about every position he has in the last year or so...immigration, campaign finance, abortion, guns, taxes.

I am somewhat surprised and concerned about the boomlet surrounding Fred Thompson. I don't dislike him at all and have been a big fan of Law and Order and was very glad to see him serve as a capable if undistinguished US Senator from Tennessee.

What does concern me is the sense that we have been down this road before. About 8 years ago most Republicans threw their lot in with George W Bush who has a good name for politics but an undistingued career as the Gov of Texas.

Those who oppose this immigration bill guarantee only one result and that is that those here illegally working and living will continue to do so with no repercussions and isn't that really Amnesty.

Furthermore we from a security standpoint we will continue to have no means of tracking who these people are, where they are or what they are doing.

This immigration bill may not be perfect but at least we can take steps toward punishing (by way of a fine) and then rewarding work and assimilation as they have to learn the language(by way of citizenship). Additionally we can take steps toward actually securing our borders something that will not happen until a bill is passed.
