he New York Times published an article yesterday about a couple who vowed only to consume products that were made within 100 miles of their home.
The couple wrote book about their culinary experiment entitled "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle."
I will neither be purchasing the book or replicating their experiment based on this line I took from the piece:

Posted at 9:10am on Mar. 28, 2007 Who Got Bought
By AmandaBCarpenter
Last week, when the House passed their pork-stuffed Iraq spending bill that establishes a date certain for withdrawal of American troops, only seven of the 43-member Blue Dog Democrats -- a group that purports to fight for fiscal responsibility and strong national security -- voted against the bill.
Do the math: that means 36 voted for it. Several members who were reluctant to require withdrawal of U.S. troops by a firm deadline made deals that were greased with bacon from Democratic leadership in exchange for their vote. The final House bill that narrowly passed, 218-212 contained a whopping $24 billion in earmarks that will pay for many pet projects in the home districts of several Blue Dogs.

Posted at 10:20am on Mar. 23, 2007 Bill Said 'It's Not Fair' to Criticize Hillary for her Iraq War Vote
By AmandaBCarpenter
Former President Bill Clinton said “it’s not fair” his wife Hillary is being so harshly criticized by the left for her 2002 vote to authorize the President to use force in Iraq.
And, he seemed pretty irritated that a young man from Illinois is getting more attention than Hillary from the anti-war crowd.
On a fundraising conference call yesterday Bill said, “I don’t have a problem with anything Barack Obama [has] said on this,” but “to characterize Hillary and Obama’s positions on the war as polar opposites is ludicrous.”
“It’s just not fair to say that people who voted for the resolution wanted war,” Clinton said.
Bill lamented, “This dichotomy that’s been set up to allow him to become the raging hero of the anti-war crowd on the Internet is just factually inaccurate.”
Does someone sound jealous?

Posted at 7:29am on Mar. 21, 2007 '300' Therapy
By AmandaBCarpenter
I’ve never been in therapy, but I can’t imagine anything could be more cathartic than watching King Leonidas and his mighty band of Spartans brutally massacre the thousands of jihadis that descended on them at the epic Battle of Thermopylae in the blockbuster hit 300.
Did I say jihadis? I meant Persians. Sorry, about that. The two are easily confusedd in light of current events. While watching 300 it’s tempting to mentally substitute the freedom-loving Spartans for dedicated U.S. soldiers and swap the occultist Persians for Islamic insurgents lusting to cash in their martyrdom for 72 virgins.

Posted at 11:59am on Mar. 19, 2007 'I'm Not a Lawyer' and Other Distortions from Valerie Plame
By AmandaBCarpenter
It’s a good thing Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald never had to prove that former CIA agent Valerie Plame was “covert” or not before she outed herself with a full-page photo spread in Vanity Fair. Judging from her testimony on Capitol Hill last week she would bring Fitzgerald’s batting average down considerably.
The hearing, a media extravaganza produced and directed by Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) featured Plame in a well-guarded role. Citing security concerns, Waxman didn’t permit Republicans to ask or answer the questions Plame’s political adventures demand.

Posted at 11:37am on Mar. 14, 2007 Schumer Makes a Federal Case Out of Well...
By AmandaBCarpenter
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman and resident media hound Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) knows an opportunity when he sees it. Especially if it warrants two, count ‘em two, separate press conferences in just one day to embarrass the White House.
In typical Schumer fashion, he’s making a federal case out of well, a federal case.
Over the weekend, news reports revealed that senior White House officials had recommended that all 93 U.S. attorneys (who serve at the pleasure of the President) be fired. Eight were eventually dismissed. On Tuesday, Schumer commandeered the Senate Radio and TV Studio twice to rail against the firings which he characterized as part of a larger “dark cloud” hanging over the administration.

Posted at 9:46am on Mar. 12, 2007 Obey Needs to Find His Dancing Shoes
By AmandaBCarpenter
It’s high time that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi started accessorizing her Armani suits appropriately. She needs to take that toity scarf off her neck, tie it around her head and crank the protest music because the Defeatocrats are jiving full-on with the crusty flower children who brought them into power.
The only problem is hippies make lousy dance partners. Just ask Rep. David Obey (D.-Wis.). He had a testy exchange with anti-war “occupiers” who infiltrated Capitol Hill last week. When two grassroots anti-war protesters unexpectedly approached him to lobby him to vote against the upcoming war spending bill, he became unglued.

I wrote this for on Human Events today. I blocked Mr. Hatch's remarks about the bill.
By a vote of 51-46 the Senate voted to protect language to give the Transportation Security Administration’s 45,000 airport screeners collective bargaining rights that was tucked into homeland security legislation purporting to implement remaining 9/11 Commission recommendations.

Somehow, it's funny and "investigative" when a pseudo liberal male journalist confronts Michelle Malkin with an offensive picture, verbally attacks her and then follows her through a crowded room after she gives him a more than deserved polite response.

Posted at 3:26pm on Mar. 2, 2007 CPAC: Giuliani Flops
By AmandaBCarpenter
Some people tell me that Rudy Giuliani's speech at CPAC today was "terrific." Others say "outstanding."
I think they are mistaking Rudy for the previous speaker.
Before America's Mayor came on NRA President Wayne LaPierre warmed up the crowd to such a degree the room was scorching.
Five minutes into Rudy's speech the house was crammed to the walls, but all the energy had dissipated.
In other words, Rudy flopped. Big time.

Hillary leads with net favorables within her own party (77 percent). Giuliani takes second (70 percent). Other candidates range in the high 40's. Gore came in at 49 percent, McCain and Obama are at 48 percent and Edwards trails with 45.
Hillary and Gore sink with net favorables in opposing party, though. Hillary netted -42 and Gore tallied -47. Giuliani leads in net favorables from opposing party with 18 percent, McCain nailed 17 percent.

By AmandaBCarpenter
In a February 7 speech on the Senate floor Hillary Clinton said that her plan to cut funding for Iraqi troops is needed to “send a message” to the Iraqi government “that there are consequences to their inaction.” Those consequences would be a disaster for the Iraqi forces and the nascent Iraqi democracy according to the chief spokesman for the Multi-National Forces in Iraq says otherwise.

By AmandaBCarpenter
Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) is finalizing the 2007 version “McKennedy” immigration bill he drafted with Sen. John McCain (R.-Ariz.) to give amnesty to illegal immigrations currently living and working in the United States that could be formally introduced before the month’s end.
On February 16, McCain met with a Irish group that lobbies for illegal aliens called the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform in the Bronx.
