"Convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff is scheduled to report to federal prison tomorrow, over the objections of federal prosecutors who say they still need his help to pursue leads on officials he allegedly bribed.

Sources close to the investigation say Abramoff has provided information on his dealings with and campaign contributions and gifts to "dozens of members of Congress and staff," including what Abramoff has reportedly described as "six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic senators."

This is a message to all my conservative friends: get out there and vote for Republican candidates. Get your family to vote. Get your friends to vote.

I voted early via absentee, even though I vote in California elections, where my vote would count the least, considering the size of the state's population. Sitting this election out is NOT AN OPTION.

Rasmussen Reports has an update that's still behind the paywall that shows that 'Republicans may have recovered some lost ground during the final week of the campaign.'

They find that 35.9% of Americans now regard themselves as Dems, compared to 33.0% for the GOP. That's down from a 6.2% advantage earlier in the month.

Rasmussen Reports have just released polls showing the following:

In Tennessee Bob Corker has open his first substantial lead in months: now leads Harold Ford 53%-45% (last poll had Corker up 49%-47%)

In Virginia: Allen and Webb are deadlocked at 49% each (big improvement from last poll that had Allen down by 5)

In Missouri: McCaskill edges Talent 49%-48% (same as last poll)

A just released Rasmussen poll shows that the Maryland GOP is closing hard on the Democrats, to the point where it really should be called too close to call.

As shown in a poll yesterday, Republican Bob Ehrlich is trailing just 49%-48%.

Michael Steele, meanwhile is behind just 50%-45%.

I know we'd rather they were ahead, but running this close is only confirmation that both races are winnable, largely because the Maryland black vote is a huge unknown in both these races.

It's now a near certainty that the Democratic Gubernatorial nominee in the nation's most populous state is going down in flames. The latest Field Poll, generally heralded as California's best 'independent' polling outfit finds Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with his biggest lead yet of 49%-33%.

A just released Rasmussen Reports poll shows that Maryland's Senate and Governor races have tightened considerably:

In the Senate race, they find Cardin leading Steele 50%-45% (down from 53%-44% 2 weeks ago)

In the Governor race, they find O'Malley leading Ehrlich just 50%-47% (down from 53%-45% 2 weeks ago)

Michael Steele can with this thing. Do what you can to support him.

Posted at 7:22am on Oct. 27, 2006 Dems can't gain traction in states like CA, GA, TX and CT: Could be pivotal in House control

Something that I'm following quite closely in various state races is the complete inability of certain state Democratic Parties to gain meaningful traction in some key states that will very likely affect the outcome of who controls the US House of Representatives.

Consider the following state-by-state analyses:

CALIFORNIA: GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has even widened his already huge lead in the latest polls. Survey USA, for instance, has him leading 55%-37% over Dem Phil Angelides. The fact that this race isn't even competitive is very worrying for CA Dems who until about mid this year thought they had a good chance of ousting Arnold. The problem for CA Dems is that they lack unity and Arnold's strong performance could have strong implications down the ballot, especially in some competitive races like districts for Pombo, Doolittle and Bilbray. While it's true that Di Feinstein holds a big lead for her Senate race, there's very little excitement in a race that nobody expects her to lose. 2006 could prove to be the worst election year for California Democrats in many years.

A just released Rasmussen Reports poll (still behind the paywall) shows the Bob Menendez is losing ground. Republican Tom Kean leads 43%-41%. When leaners are included, the race is deadlocked 45%-45%. Their last survey had Menedez up 42%-39%.

When I first saw the latest ABC News Washington Post poll, I thought oh dear, here we go again. The analysis of the poll was totally lopsidedly pro-Dem and with the liberal pundits all grimly shaking their heads like Job's useless 3 friends.

But when I looked at the internals, I found some surprisingly good tidbits here and there. For one thing, President Bush's ratings improved, albeit slightly.

Here are the latest Mason-Dixon Polls for the US Senate:

Virginia: Allen leads Webb 47%-43% (previous poll showed 43%-43% tie)

Tennessee: Corker leads Ford 45%-43% (taken before Ford's silly act at Corker's press conference - previous poll showed Ford up 43%-42%)

Montana: Tester leads Burns 46%-43% - (confirms movement toward Burns - last MD poll showed Tester up 47%-40%)

Missouri: McRascal leads Talent 46%-43% (bad news because the last MD poll showed them deadlocked 43%-43%)

A just released Rasmussen Reports Poll shows that Tester's lead over Conrad Burns in Montana has evaporated to 48%-46% and 49%-46% with leaners.

For what it's worth, this is big movement for Burns according to this poll. So, a bit of good news on the poll front ain't so bad, huh?

Either that or they always were. But, honestly folks, the polls are so wildly contradictory right now, it's clear that we have to follow our gut instinct and get out the vote.

Let me give you some examples of some ridiculous swings in the latest polls. It's not even funny:

NY-20: Siena College shows Sweeney leading 53%-39%; RT Strategies shows Sweeney trailing 54%-41% while Grove Insight shows a dead heat. All 3 polls were conducted around the same time.

We've had some less than exhilarating polling numbers over the past few days. At the forefront of the bad polls are numbers which show the Pennsylvania and Ohio Senate races are going terribly for the GOP. I refuse to write either of those off yet.

However, here's a quick summary of some of the more encouraging polling data of the past few days:

Washington Senate Race: Cantwell leads just 51%-43% in latest SUSA poll. That's a big tightening since their previous polls. SUSA has always given Cantwell her biggest leads.
