Polls show Harold Ford losing ground . . .

2 New Polls show that Republican Bob Corker has gained ground against Democrat Harold Ford. Survey USA, which previously found Ford leading Corker 48%-45% now finds Corker leading 48%-46%.

Meanwhile, Rasmussen Reports poll that's still behind the paywall also finds that Ford's 5-point lead in their last poll has evaporated. I can't give more details, 'cause I'm technically not supposed to.

(Another tidbit from Rasmussen: President Bush's Job Approval is up to 44% today - so much for the Foley Fallout)

Personally, I think Harold Ford is enormously overrated and that Bob Corker has the advantage and will pull it off on election day. Traditionally, southern polls tend to skew African-American candidates' support, as even Kos was lamenting the other day. The gay marriage ban shouldn't hurt Corker's chances, either.

always has been a rapidly developing family scandal (I assume the DNC doesn't have his relatives under house arrest). The race very well may be neck and neck but it could implode on a moment's notice or one good interview with his uncle John Ford.

I consider this race still a toss up, but it has started to lean ever so slightly Corker.

We all have to admit that Harold Ford is an excellent candidate. The best the Democrats have this year, IMHO.

After the election could we possibly recruit him to the GOP?

Anyone in Tennessee considering that?

Perhaps he has 'charisma' but I must say he seems to have run a pretty sleazy campaign this far, just digging up as much dirt as he can find on Corker. 911 'scandal', land deal 'scandal', blah, blah, blah. He's also too slick and self-important. He really bugs me, to be honest.

Compare him to a stellar candidate like Michael Steele and it's just no comparison, imo.

"Excellent" may be an inappropriate descriptior. But it was followed by "the best Democrats have" - which is probably true. He is the strongest challenger candidate they've fielded. I'd say he's even stronger than incumbants like Stabenow and Cantwell.

That doesn't speak to his campaign tactics, which when not leaving a bad taste in your mouth are trying to mislead people by obfuscating on Ford's record and positions on critical issues like the WOT.

is that you can tell us the punchline (the actual head to head numbers), but not reveal anything else.

I suspect that RCP will have it up on their "latest polls" page in the next couple of hours.

It's Ford up 48%-46% - and they said that they're going to take it from lean Dem back to toss up. Unfortunately, I've been noticing a bias in favor of Dems in the latest Rasmussen Polls - something seems to be oversampling the left.

It could be bunnies-- er, sorry, wrong reference.

Rasmussen has been adjusting his balance of Dems vs Reps vs independents; he's now sampling 5 percent more Dems than Reps. Ever since that I've noticed his polling has started to skew towards the Dems.

*God help me, I apparently got it almost completely right on the first try.

I have relatives who live in the Bootheel of MO (I've heard all of the jokes, BTW!). Across the Mississippi River is Dyersburg, TN. Memphis is not too far away. Those two cities dominate W. Tenn. We all know about Memphis, but Dyersburg, while rural, seems to have a heavy concentration of rural African Americans, who tend to be Democrat, but not as stridently as in Memphis. If Ford can't carry Dyersburg, he is in big trouble.

Sitting out is a vote for KOS.

In the latest Rasmussen poll, Ford leads Corker 48-46%.

BTW, what happened to Kean in NJ? He seemed to have a great shot at winning that seat, but Menendez now is up in all polls by about 4%. If it's just the fact of NJ Dems coming home, why aren't we seeing the same trend in our direction in a state like Montana, where Burns hasn't made any headway?

The latest polls show Menendez pulling up a small lead, but they show that Kean has better favorables and this race is by no means over. Menedez is definitely embattled.

The President had a successful press conference yesterday, and Foley was weeks ago. The damage to his numbers would be minimal and has faded away. I'm more worried about the down the ticket people.

When I found out the Survey USA poll had a quarter of African American supporters voting for Corker, I took out a big grain of salt. The Rasmussen poll is more believable, and good news for Corker.

I don't think Ford is an overrated candidate (until a few months ago people thought he had no chance of winning), but this is Tennessee, a state for those who have no time for the limosine liberals in the Democrat Party. Corker is going to win because he is in a conservative party which dominates a conservative state. Frankly I think he is lucky to be in a Republican state and I think if Hileary or Bryant had won this race would be over by now.

looks like the MO Dems are at it again.

Jim Talent is running just about dead even in the latest polls and seems to be doing quite well. I really hope he pulls it off.

Doesn't seem like he'd be a terrible loss though. He's been campaigning on his vote for the war on Terror and his vote for increased border security and his personal friendship with President Bush. It sounds like he'd be a Ben Nelson clone, which isn't a problem for me.

From what I hear, Ford bombed Tuesday night, and I do want Corker, but, I watched the Sunday debate and was blown away by Ford. He would provide quite a contrast with Obama. I really think Ford should have switched parties. The way he talks about his faith is quite impressive. Corker seems like a good man and more consistent, but I wish Ford was in the GOP. He is a star. Being in the dem party cramps his style I think.

A Democrat is still just a Democrat. I strongly support Corker because we don't need another compromised Dem in the Senate.

I think we would be much prouder of Michael Steele, who imho would be a great addition to the Senate. And I'm quite excited by his campaign, though he is behind in the polls. Let's hope he pulls ahead.

To BE in that party, given what it has become is to be compromised. I have lost a lot of respect for nayone that can still identify with it given their behavior since 911 especially.

With the latest Survey USA poll out today showing DeWine down by FOURTEEN POINTS (ugh), holding this seat is an absolute must.

And if we could only hold either Ohio or TN, I would much rather choose Ohio to keep Brown out. Ford certainly isn't the worst Dem imaginable. And I wish Republicans would be as aggressive promoting their faith as Ford has been.

that Ohio is going to put a mcgovernite hippie in the senate. I don't beleive between election polls.

He is not the social conservative he pretends to be. Talking about your faith and putting out ads set in a church mean nothing by themselves. Lots of Democrats do the same thing. What did Clinton often do when he got in trouble? He made sure the press got good footage of him toting around his 50-pound Bible as he left church.

Ford actually said in the latest debate that he too is pro-life (after Corker said so first), yet he is pro-Roe! Those two positions cannot coexist, unless again, we are talking about a Clintonesque pro-life position that is 'personal', and cannot influence public policy. Unbelievably, Corker did not bust him on this as he easily could have. The fact is that Roe (and its accompanying decision) make almost impossible all but the most feeble of pro-life policies. Corker could have at least made the point of saying he favors letting the people of Tennessee set their own abortion policy, while Ford Jr favors letting 5 elitist judges do so. Again, I couldn't believe Corker let that slide, but maybe he doesn't want Roe overturned either. I don't know, but his failure to pounce and let Ford Jr get away with an outrageous and false declartion of being pro-life was puzzling.

And let's not forget that what are perhaps Ford Jr's most high-profile, showcase, conservative votes -- for the FMA and for the House immigration bill -- were made with an eye towards the Senate race he has been preparing for all his life. Moreover, he knew the FMA would not pass, so that was an easy vote, and he knew the House bill could not pass the Senate. Does anyone really think he'd vote the same way if it really mattered, especially in light of possible higher ambitions that would require the support of the kook left/Dem base?

And lets not forget that he publicly opposed Alito for confirmation, and in light of judicial supremacy, it really doesn't matter what one claims to believe on social issues if they don't also support having Court that is not hell-bent on imposing the Left's agenda from the bench. Yes, I know that Ford Jr says he would have voted for cloture on the Alito nomination, then voted against him for confirmation. But as with the FMA and Immigration votes, can such a claim really be taken seriously? And if things go badly for the GOP this Nov, then the Dems will filibuster a conservative nominee should Bush get another vacancy. The Gang of 14 would likely disband because then there would be no chance of pulling the constitutional/nuclear option, and its a very safe bet that Ford jr would not support that option. I hope Corker and the GOP are making an issue of the Sup Court during this campaign.

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy it. Hopefully Corker will win and made it so that my assertions are never tested, and then Corker will prove to be the conservative he claims to be. If I'm wrong, however, I think everyone should expect 4-5 years of reliably leftwing votes from Ford Jr before he has to try and reestablish conservative bonafides as reelection approaches.

Harold Ford will tow the liberal line, if he's elected to the Senate. Someone like that will get up and sanctimoniously hit at the Republicans for this, that and the other, while constantly caving to left-wing pressure groups.

Ugh! Even the thought makes me sick.

SUPPORT BOB CORKER.
