While the public's dissatisfaction with President Bush is well established by now, the supposed tidal wave in 2008 for the Democrats may not be materializing. Do we face a tough fight? Sure. But with the nomination of John McCain, who holds his own in national polls and several battleground states early in the game against Obama and leading outside the margin of error against Clinton, the news of the GOP's demise this year may be greatly exaggerated.

By AngryMatt
I voted for Mitt Romney, to no avail, in Florida. I initially supported Fred Thompson until I attended, and reported on, a rally he had here in Cape Coral. I saw the lack of fire in the belly and knew immediately it was a lost cause. I become nearly physically ill when I hear "for patriotism, not profit" and claims that people on Wall Street need to be punished for our economy.
I have no illusions about what a Romney or McCain presidency would be. I know neither is the second coming of Ronald Reagan, but when I see some headlines in the rightosphere, I wonder where some of you are coming from.
It literally hurts to write a defense of McCain; my wife tells me to turn off the television when he speaks because she dislikes him more each time he opens his mouth. I concur. But we both have no idea why the top issue with him for many on the right is his stance on immigration. Why is it a big deal?

Posted at 1:34pm on Jan. 30, 2008 How McCain can save the GOP and conservatism
By AngryMatt
I'm not much of a blogger, as this is my first entry in over a year on RedState, but a thought that struck me earlier today has compelled me to write this. I'm a strong Mitt Romney supporter and I voted for him yesterday in Florida. As our president would say.. "make no mistake," I am a Romney backer and will be behind him until he drops out.
And I say "until" because this process is over. Unless McCain makes an awful and national gaffe, he will win the nomination. But through that victory, and one in November, John McCain may actually save the Republican party and this conservative movement.
