TX-22 Update! Shelly Sekula-Gibbs: Abortion Flip Flopper

Let's take a break from the 2008 POTUS cycle to talk about that other little thing we call Congress. Here in Houston, the talk at the Congressional level is focused on Texas 22, Tom DeLay's old seat, where it seems like every politician under the sun is in the race. The candidate with the most name ID in this race is Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, best known for her outrageously embarrassing performance in the two weeks she was in office as a replacement for Tom DeLay, prompting the remaining staff to actually stage a walk out en masse. Not exactly good name ID, but she's using it to try to get back to Congress.
This week, on the local Pat Gray radio show, the hosts discovered a fact that had been reported locally but went unnoticed by many. It turns out that Sekula-Gibbs filled out the Planned Parenthood PAC's survey in 2001 (images here and here) claiming that she was not just pro-abortion, but that she was actually in favor of taxpayer funding for abortions. She now claims to be pro-life, but in a district this conservative, it's a bit of an issue to say the least.
The hosts discussed the facts here. And then after talking about it for a while, Sekula-Gibbs herself calls into the show. Her performance starts off well - Sekula-Gibbs claims that she was moved over the past five years by the advancements in sonograms and other medical information to reconsider her views. So maybe this was legit.
But then the hosts start making some points that, shall we say, make this look like a far worse flip-flop than anyone else running in 2008. Turns out that, didn't you know, that the Planned Parenthood endorsement would've been nice to have back in 2001 when she was running for city council...so her views changed when her constituency changed. And Sekula-Gibbs is herself a doctor, a physician...and her children are older...so it's not like she discovered that a fetus is a human life within the past few years. Or if she did, well - if you've been treated by Dr. Sekula-Gibbs in the past few years, you might want to clue her in to the usage of such new discoveries as penicillin and that the use of leeches is not particularly helpful in treatment of consumption.
So that's one side of the TX-22 primary battle for you. On the other side: listen to Pete Olson's latest ads, featuring the voice of God - otherwise known as Senator Phil Gramm. I have to say, regardless of what you think of Pete, these ads are just flat-out awesome. Listen to them 3 or 4 times for good measure.
There's a reason Redstate endorsed Pete Olson in TX-22. We've had enough of the kind of embarrassing, incompetent, flip-flopping politicians. Pete is the opposite of that. Visit his site to find out more.
--Chain her to Sheila Jackson Lee, that OTHER winsome thing representing Houston
--Chain them both to a cement truck
--Drive it off the tallest bridge in Houston (don't stay in the cab, just put her in gear, then proceed to the best vantage point)
--take two shooters of Chivas
--go to bed and have sweet dreams
And America will thank you!

You are comparing Mike Huckabee to an abortion flip-flopper? Ugh...

And thanks for covering the House races, we need that.

Talk about organizing the Conservative vote.
I once was called the Phil Gramm of the University of Washington in our student paper, when I was in college. They put my kisser right next to his. I think they were trying to be negative. Best. Day. Ever... with the exception of the birth of a child and my marriage of course.

You know the Clinton Gore model of picking someone who is just like you are...
They could be the Republicans who changed our mind on abortion for political expediency ticket...
Just kidding, just kidding... Sorry, I know we were taking a break from POTUS 2008. I could not help myself.
In all seriousness, when I saw my son at 11 weeeks by ultra-sound, I became pro-life, so I don't think it is out of the realm of possibilities to have a sudden change of heart on this issue. Then I announced for the State Senate. ;)

Can we Houstonians ever rid ourselves of this self serving creature! She is the Mike Huckabee of east Texas, without the smarts or the charisma.
