Rudy's 4th Amendment Speech to the NRA?

If Fred Thompson were to make a mistake like this, you could be sure that Fox News and Dick Morris would be all over it. They'd be harping that Fred was flopping, or that he was lazy, or that he needs to hit the books and not make mistakes or blunders like this.

Did I hear that right?

"After all the second amendment is a freedom every bit as important as the other freedoms in the first ten amendments. Just think of the language of it -- 'the people shall be secure' --let's see, this is my wife calling..."

That's funny, I thought that was the first line of the 4th Amendment?

Oh that's right it is!

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Can you imagine if this were Fred and not Rudy? It would be all over the blogosphere by now. Dick Morris would be racing to pump out a new "Fred Sucks" column, George Will would be scrambling to get booked on some Sunday talk show, and Richard Viguerie would be holding yet another meeting of "true conservatives" in an undisclosed phone booth somewhere in downtown DC.

But of course, this is Rudy, so it's possible that this will be the only place you'll hear about it.

Hat Tip to reader Joanne ;)

I need to tie a string on my finger to remind me not to follow your sleezy links to your blog under false pretenses in the future.

Besides, this is a violation of RedState posting rules.

And Rightly So!

You are sure not being very civil. Must be a Rudy fan who does not like someone pointing out the huge gaffe he made.

I'm afraid you completely misunderstood my point. I took no position about the contents of this blog, though personally I suspect this gaffe is just another of many pebbles that will have little impact come primary voting time.

By the way, I'm a Hunter supporter (which I have stated previously) who is still biding time as the candidates continue to battle it out. Don't jump to conclusions too quickly.

True, this was a less civil comment than is my usual style.. However, I feel responsible to be a guardian of site ethics, and the author "pushed one of my buttons" (and he's not the first to do so) with his "Read More" link, which turned out to be just a link to the identical article on the author's private website. This was bait and switch - I'd expected to see further elaboration not just a link to a candidate support site.

To be more constructive in my criticism, it would be quite acceptible for the author to link to his personal website if he clearly identifies that he is doing so. "Read More" is not sufficient identification.

And Rightly So!

He'll fight for our fifth amendment right for free speech, and the 19th amendment right to equal protection!

It is true though, that you're not supposed to post links to your own posts on other sites. If you own the work, you're welcome to repost it in its entirety here, but I'm told that just giving a teaser and a link to your own work is not allowed.

So just edit and paste the whole thing in...

A reader from the Corner wrote in and suggested that a staffer had called Rudy to save him from what would have been a very embarassing moment.

While that is an interesting thought, it seems like the call came too quickly after he started the incorrect recitation of the 2nd ammendment.

It would however be a good idea for Rudy to have this sort of system in place to save him from telling his true feelings about issues like tax-payer funded abortions.

I still believe that CNN interview will provide the fuel for the negative ads that will prevent Rudy from being the nominee.

People might forgive old pro-choice videos from the 1990s since all three front-runners have them and people may have even forgiven Rudy based on the promise of appointing "strict constructionists". However, I think the negative issue ads against Rudy based on this interview will ultimately be what shifts the tide to either Mitt or Fred

"How rude"

Sorry could not find the video to go with those immortal words.
