Typical White People in Pennsylvania

By BooBooKitty Posted in Comments (57) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

The famous oil painting of the founding fathers in Philadelphia by Howard Chandler Christy is best known as Scene at the Signing of the Constitution of the United States. Prompted by past and recent statements made by Democrat candidate Barack Obama, I have decided to lead a movement to rename this historical piece.

Please sign in the comments section below to join the movement in renaming this work of art to:

Scene of Typical White People in Pennsylvania Clinging to Religion and Guns

that would be what Rev Wright would say and me? I would say what a beautiful picture of the founding of the greatest country on the face of the earth....but I am just a typical white person ;-)

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

they are signing a document that says that recognizes and legitimizes slavery and counts a slave as 60% man.

So, no, they aren't perfect.

Kill the terrorists

-- Frank J

He is referring to the Three Fifths Clause in Article I Section 2 Paragraph 3

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons

While not explicitly condoning slavery, it did count all non-free as 60% of a person for tax and representation purposes. That is far better than nothing.

Fighting for conservatism one day at a time.

By allowing the white population of the South more representation in the House of Representatives based on the number of enslaved blacks, the pro-slavery forces in the United States had a disproportionate amount of influence in the government.

That's awesome. Yeah, those slaves should feel fortunate for that 66%. They really had it good. Free housing, free food, a job, being 66% of a person. Those sure were the good old days.

Otherwise you would know that the 3/5ths issue had to do with the northern states not wanting the southern states to have a majority of the representation. The southern states wanted to count all population, both slave and non slave as one each. The northern states wanted to maintain control of the House of Representatives so they insisted that given that slaves were not being treated as equal in the south then southern states could not count them as whole.

It had nothing to do with the condition or value of a slave and everything to do with control of the government.

I you spent more time trying to learn something instead of widening that self-imposed chip on your shoulder then you would know these facts.

Three fifths = 60%

66% is two thirds.

Thanks for playing.

My gosh that was funny as heck. :)

That is just perfect, perfect. Some of the most gifted and visionary men that have ever come into this world were sitting in that room.

Remember what Thomas Jefferson said:
A government big enough to give you what you need, is big enough to take what you have.

And, that is exactly what the Democrats want to do, take all that we have.

I stand with you brother!

I love the caption, but "Religion and Guns" (ie: the first and second amendments) weren't in the Constitution at its signing. They were added during Washington's first term.

That is why they are called "amendments".

;-)

for the errantly aimed reply.

I go further, and affirm that bills of rights, in the sense and in the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers which are not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colorable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do? ~ Alexander Hamilton

and would have agreed that freedom of religion and the right to bear arms were implied- since the Constitution did not enumerate their restriction in the first place.

That is the purpose of the “preamble”.

So if you wish to pick nits my anti-federalist friend, you are indeed among good company as far as founding fathers go; but it is now a moot debate only relevant to fictional revisionists.

He doesn't have it.

You can tell from what he has said and by whom he associates and gives his money to ($26K to Pastor Wright's church in 2006).

I suppose the "anti-immigrant" sentiment was expressed in the requirement that the president be native born, and the "anti-trade" sentiment was the freeze put on the Atlantic slave trade.

Backside! I am sick & tired of those who condescend from a house of cards on the illegal "immigration" issue. Ignoring this issue is something that should bite the democrats big time, especially in the congressional races - if the republicans will see the overwhelming will of the people to do the right & correct thing - enforce our laws & secure our borders.

I wish we had some of them thar 'typical white guys' like that in D.C. running this country right now.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.

It's like fourth quarter, 45 seconds to go, Obama is up by 7 and Hillary has no time-outs. Obama has the ball, and all he has to do is kneel down. Instead he's out there running the two minute drill, and Hillary may have just picked him off.

All Obama had to do was keep quiet. This primary is awesome.

This meeting by the white crackers was the original sin for which society must pay. I know that is the case because Reverend Wright told me so.

I think Michelle Obama said they "have a hole in their souls"..

Obama is Jimmy Carter- only without the sweater.

I love how white people think that slavery never happened or segregation or etc...so anytime a black man says anything about people being racist they get so bent out of shape. OJ got off right? Look where Condi is. Black people should feel thankful for what all those typical white MEN did for them.

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

I'm going to rule that you may have felt provoked by the 3/5 clause thing, and thus not immediately toss you. But you will pick a new username - one designed not to be rude - and you will behave in the future. Understand?

Next post, please.

Others might describe you as clinging to a racist world intent never to admit or embrace "change".

I'll just call you a Democrat, same thing.

No, white people know slavery happened; We are reminded on tv everyday. Here is some breaking news: Not all white people owned slaves and segregation was over before I was even born.

Although I think this is great, Obama's comments didnt single out white people. It sounds a little defensive to interect that dynamic. "Small Town Pennsylvanians and Americans Clinging to Religion and Guns" would be a better title.

The line about "fearing people who are different than them" or whatever (paraphrasing, sorry) sort of implies that he means white people. I mean, what else would that mean?

to his "typical white person" statement that also provided inspiration for the title.

connotation. It leads you to believe that holding onto {"clinging"} religion and the freedom to bear arms is a bad thing. Democrats want government to be your religion and they want to make sure you have no choice but to follow their doctrine with no manner of redress.

( 1.50, -1.08)

It's explaining why people don't support him (85+% of AA Democrats do), so he's not talking about blacks.

You ever been to rural PA, IL, IN? In Guntoteyville? Wonder Bread without the crust.

The rust-belt cities like Scranton, PA, or Gary, IN are not like that at all, though.

Still, he's talking about whites.
