It is no secret around political circles that hardcore conservatives and John McCain don’t have a very good relationship. Metaphorically speaking, if the far-right were a tuxedo, McCain would be a pair of brown shoes. McCain has been known as a maverick, which means that he has on numerous occasions gone against his party and sided with Democrats on important issues. For example, he teamed up with Democrat Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold to pass a bill that Conservatives hated on campaign finance reform. McCain was also instrumental in what became known as the McCain-Kennedy bill on immigration which many Republicans felt gave amnesty to people illegally in our country. And, John McCain voted against President Bush’s tax cuts in both 2001 and 2003.

Besides Keith Olbermann, there is not a more smug and ignorant talking head on television that MSNBC's David Shuster. This idiot has said more dumb and biased crap that almost anybody, and it seems he FINALLY went over the line. Last night filling in for Tucker Carlson on his program, Shuster said that he felt Chelsea Clinton was being "Pimped-Out" by her parents for calling up celebrities and super delegates trying to persuade them to support her mother. Shuster went on NBC this morning to apologize and will do so again tonight. I have included a link if you want to watch this moron kiss the Clinton's butts trying to apologize. I must apologize as well because the link is to the Huffington Post, but its the only place I could find both clips. NBC would do itself a favor if it fired Shuster, but he one of their most valuable men since he continuously attacks Republicans and all. All I have to say is that this was a loooooong time coming. .

I think its completely clear now that Sen. John McCain will be the GOP nominee from president. If you are still in denial, well, you need some smelling salt or something. Also, we all need to get behind McCain and support him this fall. I dont agree with him on everything either, but we need to put differences aside and MAKE SURE a Democrat will not be elected in November.
Anyways, now comes the question about who McCain will pick for his Vice-President. I have two people in mind. Both Fred Thompson and Charlie Crist are good friends of McCain, and both could help him in two very important areas. Thompson could mend fences with many Conservatives who otherwise dread casting a vote for the Arizona Senator. McCain will need serious help in persuading the hardcore right to back him in this race. I think going up against Hillary Clinton will help, but putting Fred Thompson on the ticket would be another wise choice. It would also please a very many people here in our own Red State community.

We all know how important Ohio has been in the past two presidential elections. And in 2008, the Buckeye state will probably once again be a deciding factor when it comes to who the next leader of the free world will be. I live just west of Cleveland, and its a pretty liberal area. Our daily rag, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, is also fairly left wing. However, the PD published some poll results of Ohioans that surprised me. I hope you will all take a look at this poll and get some insight into a very politically influential part of the country. its currently 10:07 PM here in the east and approximately one hour into the Democratic debate on MSNBC. Once again, BSNBC manages to put together one of the worst debates in history. They are not giving the candidates any time restraints, there are not challenging anything anyone says and finally, they are making it the Hillary Clinton show. Another fact about this debate that I found interesting, they spent the first half hour of it discussing Iran, then followed it up with only about 12 minutes on Iraq.

Ok here is how I see things shaping out a year before the all important election.

On the Republican side, I believe we will see a very balanced and lovable Giuliani/Huckabee ticket. Having Rudy at the top, which will please many moderate Republicans and independents, and Huckabee as the VP candidate, which will please those more Conservative Republicans who do not like Rudy's stance on social issues, will be a difficult one to beat for the Democrats. I do think that Giuliani will get the nomination because most Republicans will come to their senses and realize that he is our best chance at beating Hillary. I understand the abortion issue is a difficult one, but look at it this way; George W. Bush is extremely pro-life, and after eight years of his presidency how many abortions have been stopped? Zero. People seem to think that Rudy will go out of his way to promote abortions, its just not going to happen. In any event, I think that Giuliani/Huckabee will be the GOP ticket by next summer.

This week, our nation will commemorate the sixth anniversary of my generation’s day of infamy. It’s difficult for me to put the experience of 9/11 into words, but lucky for you I’m going to try. Like everyone who lived through it, I remember everything about that day exactly as it happened. I had just started college in the fall of 2001. And being an 18 year old who was away from home for the first time made it hard for me to make sense of a world that had literally changed before my eyes. Admittedly, I was not very knowledgeable at the time about geo-politics and American foreign policy. I had no idea who Osama Bin Laden was and I had never in my life heard the words Al-Qaeda or Taliban. I was oblivious that there were people in this world who wanted to kill me just for living where I lived and for decisions that my government had made on my behalf before I was even born. I was a typical American teenager. I had grown up under this false sense of security simply believing that because I laid my head every night in the most powerful country on earth that I was invincible. And that somehow two large bodies of water that flanked our borders acted as impenetrable walls. My naiveté was shattered in a matter of hours as I watched 3,000 of my fellow countrymen and women murdered by 19 foot soldiers whom were hand picked and sent into my country to make a statement.

Im not sure how many of you people here put yourselves through the torture of watching the Democrat candidates for president debate each other, but I personally get a kick out of it. Perhaps I have a psychological problem I am unaware of. In any event, the Dems very rarely get asked hard and controversial questions, and when they do, they usually dodge it without much pressing from the moderators. Well, here are a few question I would like to see the Democrats asked, I believe these would show their true colors, to prove once in for all if these people have any courage at all, or if they will forever be terrified of the lunatics that make up the increasingly powerful far-left part of their party:

If this is any indication of how the Democrats plan to "make America great again in the eyes of the world," then Id have to admit they are off to a less than stellar start. Ever since Barack Obama said that he would invade Pakistan to root out terrorists, influential people in that country have continuously denounced him, calling his words 'irresponsible.' Theres nothin like a presidential candidate alienating one of our biggest allies during a time of war. This gaffe exposes Obama's lack of judgement and experience when it comes to foreign policy.

Ted Rall is a cartoonist. His most recent cartoon depicts an American soldier as a suicide bomber. He basically makes fun of our troops, labeling them as dumb religious zombies going over to fight a war and die for absolutely nothing. I encourage you all, as members of the Redstate community, to visit his website (www.tellrall.com) and let him know exactly what you think of his use of free speech. I think the only place you can leave comments is on his blog, which if you read his latest post really shows how loony the guy truly is. He considers himself to be 'America's real BS detector,' but it seems to me his is simply a benefit to our enemies. I consider this man a traitor and you will too when you see his cartoon. We need to stand up to people like this, who criticize the very people who risk their lives to guarantee them the right to publish garbage like this. Furthermore, if your local newspaper or any publication you know of carries this moron's work, please contact them and demand he be taken off their pages. Thanks...we cant allow these people to get away with stuff like this anymore. WE MUST FIGHT BACK. have a good weekend.

I was talking yesterday with a classmate of mine. Her husband is away serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. She told me that he is currently stationed in Ramadi, which is in the formally troubled Anbar Province. He is part of an MP unit that handles dogs for the military. She said that since it gets so hot during the summer out there that luckily her husband doesnt have much work to do because the dogs cant take the heat. She quiped that a thermometer out there once read over 150 degrees according to her husband. Anyways, as we were talking I started asking her more details about what the condition really is on the ground over there, since I dont really believe its as bad as the media says it is. She agreed. According to her husband, the Anbar Province has gone through a major change in the past year. Remember, the USMC once claimed that Anbar was 'lost.' Now, its relatively calm. Most of the Insurgents have fled to a region northeast of Baghdad since the beginning of the new US led security plan. This begged the question...why would the insurgents go northeast of Baghdad? I asked her if her husband thinks, like I do, that they fled up there because it is close to the border with Iran, where it seems most of the Al-qaeda insurgents are coming from, she concurred.

You wanna know what drives me insane, is when people, particularly liberals, complain how America has lost its moral standing in the world. If you ask me, the United States has been, for the better part of fifty years now, the most moral country on the face of the earth. In this world of terror in which we live, America seems to be one of only a few countries willing to shed its own blood to combat this evil. By killing terrorists in Baghdad, Baquba, Tikrit, Kabul, and elsewhere, we are making the streets safer all over the world. Not only do we lead the front against terrorism, we also give more financial aid to organizations and developing countries than any other. Without American money and goods, most poor nations would not be able to survive.

While I do not agree with Senator Joseph Lieberman on much, his views on the Middle East and Iraq imparticular are right on the money. If all the Democrats in Congress saw the world like Lieberman, the war in Iraq would probably be over right now. Anyways, Lieberman just returned from Iraq and has some very interesting comments about what he saw first hand. I wonder how much coverage this will get in the MSM, and if it does get any, prepare for Lieberman to get blasted by his party. Please read his words and take pride in knowing that at least one lawmaker in Washington is willing to put the good of this country ahead of the good of his party.

As a Republican, I, like most of you, are very worried about the 2008 election. We absolutely need to win this one, but it wont be easy. History tells us that after eight years of one party's rule, the American people tend to drift toward change. But these are crucial times for America. As Republicans we must be willing to sacrifice a little for the overall betterment of our society. I know many of you out there do not support Rudolph Giuliani because of his positions on some social issues. But as a fairly close follower of American politics, Giuliani is our best chance, as Republicans, to retain the White House and continue to do what is most important, keep American safe.
