By brassband77
Here's a recent photo of Sen. Obama, showing that he is reading Fareed Zakaria's The Post-American World.
. . . think he's be willing to read it aloud to us while we all eat too much while driving our SUVs?
Thanks to the Huffington Post for bringing this to our attention!

By brassband77
He's on This Week right now . . . self-righteous and sanctimonious as ever . . .
It must be wind-surfing season somewhere in the world . . . why doesn't he just go there?

Posted at 3:09pm on Jan. 3, 2008 Rush on Huckabee
By brassband77
Rush Limbaugh has pointed out that the "drive bys" want Mike Huckabee to be the nominee so that they can then crush him based on his status as an Evangelical. As Rush puts it, this would give them the chance, once and for all, to drive "religious right" voters out of the political process.
A few months ago I posed the question whether Huckabee could be a realistic candidate because of his status as an ordained minister. http://www.redstate.com/blogs/brassband77/2007/aug/14/huchabee_and_reali...

Never thought I'd consider him as my first choice, but McCain looks more and more like the right man for the time, especially in light of events today in Pakistan.

Posted at 2:58pm on Nov. 29, 2007 Anderson Cooper; The Next Dan Rather?
By brassband77
Did Anderson Cooper have anything to do with the planting of questions by Democrat activists in the Republican CNN/You Tube Debate?
Maybe not, but he will forever be linked with this shameful exercise unless he acts quickly to condemn it and disassociate himself from it.
Remember how Dan Rather and his pals CBS circled the wagons when their phony Texas National Guard records were revealed? And what a laughing stock Dan Rather turned into?

You bet it would.
Why isn't it news when Muslim extremists kidnap and murder the owner of a Christian bookstore?

an absolutely terrible candidate.
OK, I haven't really been following his organization . . . maybe he's got really good phone banks . . . or fund raisers . . . or student volunteers.
But, he makes me cringe when I see him on TV and hear him try to answer questions in debate.
He spews platitudes, and poorly.
And if anyone ever took him seriously as a VP candidate, he's managed to talk his way out of that, I'll wager.

Posted at 5:15pm on Sep. 15, 2007 Linc Chafee leaves Republican Party, but then you knew that
By brassband77
Hat tip to Andrew at www.anchorrising.com for this lead.
According to voting records in the Town of Exeter, RI, former Senator Linc Chafee has "disaffiliated" from the Republican party.
So much for all the support that Linc received from the national party in his primary against conservative Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey . . .
Here's the Exeter, RI record:
LINCOLN D CHAFEE
* Date of birth: 03/26/1953

By brassband77
Uncle Jimbo at blackfive has filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission regarding the NYT ad discount for the slanderous General "Betray Us" ad.
http://www.blackfive.net/main/2007/09/complaint-filed.html
Let's see whether the FEC has what it takes.

By brassband77
I throw this out to anyone with knowledge of the federal campaign laws and regs. . . .
Why isn't the NYTImes "deep discount" to Moveon.org an "in-kind" contribution to a PAC?
Is that permissible?

By brassband77
Ok, I'll admit to being a little bit (?) Godfather obsessed . . . but there's something about the tape of Sen. Larry Craig's interrogation that reminds me of the Carlo Rizzi confession scene in The Godfather . . .
If you recall the scene, Michael tells Carlo that he needs to come clean about having sold Sonny out to the Barzini family
. . . to paraphrase, "C'mom Carlo, did you think you could fool a Corleone? Don't lie to me Carlo, because it insults my intelligence, and it makes me very angry . . . "

Posted at 9:04pm on Aug. 15, 2007 LEAST-WORST DEM
By brassband77
I touched on this on the Stop Hillary thread, but let's start a little discussion here.
From the perspective of the conservatives who post on this site, which of the announced Democrats would be the least bad as President?
I don't believe that we should hope for the other party to nominate its most outrageous candidate just so it will be easier to beat him or her (ask the Dems who wanted to run against Reagan in 1980 about that one). I think we have to assume that the Dem nominee could be elected, and I therefore want to know which one of the announced candidates would be least-worst.

By brassband77
I like Mike Huckabee a lot . . . I've liked him ever since he first started appearing on Imus, back when he was Lt. Gov. of Arkansas. But . . .
I just cannot see this country ever electing an ordained minister, especially a Republican one. There's a lot of talk right now about Romney's religion, but is there any doubt that if Huckabee broke into the first tier -- or if he was the VP candidate -- that the main stream media would trash him constantly because of his status as on ordained minister?

Posted at 10:41pm on Aug. 8, 2007 IOWA DEMOCRAT CAUCUS ALREADY HELD!
By brassband77
In a shocking development, officials of the Iowa Democrat Party announced today that the Iowa Caucus to select 2008 convention delegates was conducted in secret last week. State party officials are refusing to reveal who won the caucus, or how the delegates will be distributed among the candidates.
An unnamed party official revealed that the secrecy move was taken to preempt efforts by South Carolina and three other unnamed states to move their primaries to dates before the Iowa caucus.
