Huchabee and reality

I like Mike Huckabee a lot . . . I've liked him ever since he first started appearing on Imus, back when he was Lt. Gov. of Arkansas. But . . .
I just cannot see this country ever electing an ordained minister, especially a Republican one. There's a lot of talk right now about Romney's religion, but is there any doubt that if Huckabee broke into the first tier -- or if he was the VP candidate -- that the main stream media would trash him constantly because of his status as on ordained minister?
I think that's an unfortunate reality and I think it should be open for discussion now.
So, Mike Huckabee is unacceptable because he is a man of faith but Fred Thompson who once worked as a defense lawyer for drug smugglers is perfectly fine. Methinks your priorities are a little out of whack. Keep an eye on Huckabee cause he will make history.
Some of his statements on immigration sound like they came from Ted Kennedy, and they show a guilt-ridden mindset that should be troubling to any conservative.
When one observes the forest, one ought to understand that it is good for attorneys to be good attorneys. When one is stuck in a few trees, it might seem that Fred! being a good attorney for bad people is a bad thing.
This is freerepublic, not redstate, caliber thinking. Antifredism clouds thinking apparently.

"I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"
I agree with that. A good analogy would be that parasites by constantly trying to infiltrate into healthy organisms have the effect of strengthening the organism's defenses. But does that make parasites morally good? I think not. If you have a chance to eliminate them, you will. The same goes for lawyers who defend drug smugglers. They serve a useful purpose only in the sense that they strengthen the overall justice system. But in isolation they are morally evil and certanly aren't fit to ascend to the highest office in the land.
Mike Huckabee's record is clearly not that of a conservative on numerous issues. All his sweet talking southern charm isn't going to hide his moderate, big government record as governor of Arkansas.
I'm not an agent, I just write books
That is not necessarily the problem. The potential problem is that the MSM might very well celebrate his "moderate record" in media markets that are more conservative in order to depress conservative voter turnout.

I don't see any negatives to him being a minister. Right now, the media is in love with Huckabee anyways.
Yes, some in the media will probably attack Mike Huckabee for his pastoral creditials. I think Gov. Huckabee has already addressed his views on how his "pastoral experience" deepens his ability to relate with the situations Americans face.

Also, he is an Evangelical Christian and was a Southern Baptist Pastor and leader, which is an incredibly large and reputable denomination. This is not to take anything away from Mitt Romney and his faith. However, Mike's Evangelical Christian background is more mainstream than Mormonism.
First, the Jimmy Carter analogy is very different . . . he was NOT an ordained minister, so that issue could not be used against him.
Second, he was a Democrat, so the main stream media, even in 1976, would not have been as inclined to attack him for his faith as they will be now for a Republican. Consider, for example, that we heard very little about Morris Udall's Mormonism when he was a leading Dem. candidate years ago, but now it's a big issue for Romney.
Understand, I do NOT hold Huckabee's background as a minister against him. There is much about him that I like.
What bothers me is that this is not being discussed widely now. It should be vetted fully at this point, rather than some later time after he's chosen for VEEP.
I'd like to believe that a majority of Americans would see it as an asset rather than a liability, but I'd like to find that out now.

that the main stream media would trash him constantly because of his status as on ordained minister
Few points:
1. I'd like it if they did attack him for that, I think it backfires and exposes the attackers for bigots.
2. I just cannot see this country ever electing an ordained minister... If this country elected Jimmah Carter, anyone could be elected.
3. What else do you expect from the Partisan Media™? They'll be attacking him because he is a Republican, the rest is the 'means' - if it isn't this line of attack, it will be something else.
4. Huckabee is running for Veep, but he should be running for the senate :)
