Barry caves again - "not wedded to a particular timeline on Iraq"

Promoted from blogs. But don't worry that we'll stop at this - we all want a slice of this one. - Moe Lane

Hey, Moe - the reversal cometh.

The Politico is reporting that The Obamessiah, the One who was to be our savior from Iraq, is now backing off of his dogmatic "get the heck out of Iraq NOW" position.

The Spelunker now says

“I am going to do a thorough assessment when I'm there," he told reporters in Fargo, N.D., according to CBS News. "When I go to Iraq and I have a chance to talk to some of the commanders on the ground, I'm sure I'll have more information and will continue to refine my policies."

Really. Well, I'm just floored. Who would have thought that he would have caved on yet another position?

Read on.

The man has no backbone. Is this the kind of "leader" that the citizens of the US would feel comfortable having at the trigger for the free world? "Yes, we should. No, we shouldn't. OOOOOHHHH - I'm so confused!" The leftists will no doubt position Barry as the cool, calm, deliberate type who thinks through his positions and admits he is wrong. I think the more apt description is a waffler who folds like a cheap card table at the least bit of pressure.

Barry, you may need one of these:

They tend to be useful when one must be a leader.

he's an invertebrate.

The left has been thrown under the bus several times in the past two weeks. The (possible) capitulation on Iraq will be by far the most serious, and will cause the most angst amongst the fringe kooks who backed him so heavily against Clinton.

If there is one stab in the back that could provoke riots in Denver, it's this one.

we know what happened after the riots at the tChicago convention in '68. Could that happen again this year, if there were riots in Denver?

From his appearance on The View (my paraphrasing from watching it):

Senator Obama was asked what would be the first 3 things he would do upon assuming office next January. First, he said that he would gather all the Joint Chiefs, military commanders and necessary cabinet members and tell them that they would have a new mission - to get out of Iraq as soon as possible. This is nothing new for the Senator, he's been running on a message of surrender the whole time.

Full video:

He has always said that he would get out as soon as possible, he has never said previously that, "I am going to do a thorough assessment when I'm there." He has always said that he already knows best and will get out now.

And the Nutroots just got thrown under the Obamabus.

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he "refines" his position, people will attack him as a flip-flopper. If he sticks to his guns, people will attack him for not recognizing the success of the surge, and take into account changing circumstances in his assessment of Iraq.

I'd actually prefer a candidate who will take an intelligent look at the CURRENT situation in Iraq, and not adhere to a position that was developed two years ago, rather than one that continues to support a wrongheaded policy just for the sake of consistency.

He's late to flip, the "surge" has been working for about a year now.

I say to my Democrat friends - Do we really want another president who doesn't see the need to change tactics for far too long?

I guess it's a fine line - we also don't want a President who cannot recognize that circumstances have changed, and stubbornly refuses to evaluate new information as it becomes available. I see what you mean, though.

...and now all he's left with is big government socialism, a supply-free energy policy, and a baritone delivery.

I'd prefer a candidate who wasn't so blinded by political opportunism that he actually saw the necessity and the possibility of succeeding in Iraq.

The Unofficial RedState FAQ
“You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say. ” - Martin Luther

In the context, that is, of this story from June 17, after John McCain had challenged him to drop his nonsense and go to Iraq to see for himself the progress.

From CNN, Obama to visit Iraq, says he's firm on troop withdrawal plans:

While Sen. Barack Obama says he'll visit Iraq and Afghanistan before the election, he's staying consistent with his plans to start withdrawing U.S. troops almost immediately should he become president.

Obama says the need to withdraw troops is twofold:

"One is to spur more action out of the Iraqis. ... But the second reason for withdrawal is the fact that we're spending $10 [billion] to $12 billion a month in Iraq," Obama said Monday while on a two-day swing through Michigan.

"The people here in Flint, Michigan, who I'm going to be talking to, would like to see some of that investment made here at home."

When was he lying? Now, then, or always?

...pander to the grown-ups in the general.

How many more lefty positions will BO have to abandon before you starry-eyed Obammunists finally understand that your savior just isn't that into you? How many more of his empty appeals to your emotions will he have to reject before you figure out that he not only thinks you're easily manipulated, but you're just plain wrong? How much longer before you realize that you have been played like a violin?

Barack's trying to leave the kiddie table and move over with the grown-ups. Sorry, kids, it's nothing personal. Maybe if you all stamp your feet in sync he'll bring you some jello.

Am I the ONLY person in America who was under the impression that during the lib primary- Obama CONSTANTLY proclaimed the war the worst mistake of a generation and promised to get all the troops out even faster than Hillary?!!

Did I just imagine hearing that?! Can anyone pull up a youtube, or a quote? I mean is there NO RECORD AT ALL of the hundreds of times he claimed he would withdraw faster than Edwards would?

Or did none of that ever happen?

One would think a relatively intelligent Republican operative could have been pulling all this together for...oh I don't know... maybe an AD showing all the bilious different statements his team has made on Iraq?!

I mean I kind of thought that was the entire point of political operatives and presidential campaigns..

"Small town folks get bitter after which they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment"- Barack Carter Obama

1) it's a holiday weekend, so no one is really paying attention (which is why Barack is putting out this statement today, hoping that no one notices).

2) we save those clips/ads for Sept/Oct when the public is paying attention.

3) you are quite correct that Barack's entire narrative can be boiled down to "I was right on Iraq, therefore I have the judgment to be president." Whoops, you've been wrong for the last year Barack....

Changes his position on Iraq then mcCain may have a chance. Obama's position will effectively be, "I see now what John McCain saw 2 years ago". McCain should be able to use that position in his favor. Obama has effectively backed off of every one of his primary promises. "That's not change we can believe in".
This is the biggest turncoat I've seen in awhile (assuming it happens as a lot of people are thinking).

on his Special Report (FNC). Obama says repeatedly, in different speeches to different anti-war audiences, that he will withdraw all troops in 2009.

The more he tries to explain this stuff away, the more slippery/politics-as-usual he will seem.

Obama has to HOPE that people CHANGE the channel when his scatter-brained behavior is mentioned.

During the CA Democratic primary debate (right before Super Tuesday), when asked about withdrawing troops from Iraq, Hillary responded by stating that she couldn't commit to a time-line for withdrawal because (and I'm paraphrasing) "We have contractors in the green zone and Iraqis that have assisted us that could be killed by insurgents if we withdraw too precipitously. Also, our soldiers could be shot by insurgents if we immediately pulled them out and didn't provide cover for them." Obama then hammered her and said that she "helped George Bush drive the bus into the ditch" when it came to Iraq. Obama also admitted to wanting a 16 month withdrawal timetable during that debate.

Not to mention, the netroots hate Hillary, in part, because she refused to apologize for her Iraq war vote, and because she admitted during a debate last summer that we might possibly still have troops in Iraq in 2012.

Anyway, many Hillary supporters that I have talked to had reservations about Obama, because they thought that his stance of an immediate pull-out of troops from Iraq was reckless (along with his stance on talking to dictators without preconditions), which is why I listed the Iraq war, in a previous blog that I wrote, as one of the many issues that Republicans can use to reach out to Clinton voters.

When you have to call multiple press conferences to dispute that you've flip-flopped on more than one issue, and refer to the change of position as a "refinement" -- as though that will reassure anyone -- you know you're losing the war.

Changing positions, blaming the bad publicity on the other campaign ("I didn't flip-flop; and the only reason you media types think I did is because John McCain said I did!), accusing your opponents of scare tactics and racism before they've said anything, and generally fighting battles (real or imagined) on one's own turf are not the characteristics of a successful political campaign...

"Do not fear, only believe." (Mark 5:36)

I heard GW called her and said something along the lines of once she sees some of the national security stuff he sees, she'll realize that "pull out now" is not an option. She quickly changed her tune. Obama probably got the same phone call.

ignorant, Hillary is a liar, McCain is stupid and I'm for stupid. No change, except that I have come to see that Obama is also pretty damn stupid too. But I also said that he is teacheable, based on some flip flops on some issues during the debates with Bill's wife.

the caveat

I don't want Obama to grow a spine till he flip flops on the whole leftist agenda.

I love the flipper pic- I don't know why when Kerry used ONE sentence we were able to successfully portray the innate hackery of his essence-

but looking back now- Kerry was NEVER the liar that Obama has turned out to be. Kerry would try and weasel his way around Iraq votes- but he never flipped on EVERY ISSUE HE HAD EVER VOTED ON...

Obama is bereft of experience, lacking in achievement, and when he flip flops on Iraq like every other issue- it only demonstrates another facet of his woeful judgement.

Will anyone bother pointing these facts out to the American people?

"Small town folks get bitter after which they cling to guns or religion, or antipathy to people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment"- Barack Carter Obama

I think that it's a combination of pandering to the far-left nutroots and inexperience that have led to all of Obama's flip-flops. For instance, he was obviously pandering to far-left types regarding his positions on NAFTA and guns in the primary (which is why he had to flip-flop for the GE). However, his positions on meeting with dictators without preconditions, not supporting naming the Iranian National Guard as a terrorist organization, and on immediately pulling troops out of Iraq were, I think, the product of gaffes and misstatements made during debates due to a lack of experience and ignorance of the issues.

And he'll throw them under the ever-growing bus too. He got thru the primaries with the support of the far-left crackpot wing of the party, but in the general he has to at least try to look sane. I think this 'toon describes it:

That's a hilarious cartoon, bs--and it perfectly summarizes Obama's entire campaign.

Yes, there have been other candidates tagged with the flip-flopping label--Kerry and Romney come to mind. However, neither one of these candidates flip-flopped on as many issues as Obama has flip-flopped on. Furthermore, neither Kerry nor Romney, flip-flopped on issues that they had actually used to attack their opponent with in the primary (Obama attacked Hillary on Iraq, on her not wanting to meet with dictators, on her voting to call the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, and on NAFTA just to name a few)--I'm sorry, but that takes a set of brass ones if you ask me. And finally, both Kerry and Romney had list of accomplishments and legislative experience that they were running on. Obama has little experience and no accomplishments. He is literally running on his "judgement" and personal appeal--which is why all of this flip-flopping should be deadly for him, if McCain would decide to start actually campaigning.

My take.

let's attack Obama on how if we had followed his original positions we would have lost the war, the economy and the courts.

flipper. Obama will say and do anything to be elected. How can we trust him to do what he says when he has had numerous opinions on the same subject.

If you vote for Obama, you vote to raise your taxes. It will not only get the rich, it will get the middle class also.

"ordinary pol" is exactly the kryptonite way to deal with Obama.

Obama is a far-left extremist .. *but* he is showing himself as a historical 'narrative' figure, embodying 'progress' just by getting elected. It's not enough to say "he's a leftwinger" that will just be deflected by Obama's bob-and-weave to centers.

Call him a 'typical politician' for flipping on FISA; call him a a 'typical politicians' for back-pedaling on Iraq.
Every single move he makes is part of a huge artifice of his campaign.

He is doing TYPICAL POLITICIAN PERSON stuff every day. Call him on it.

Then the down-to-earth Obama will get stacked up with down-to-earth Obama, and Obama the inexperienced leftie will be found wanting compared with centrist Mccain.

say "typical pol"?

Of course not. We have two pols every election.

My point is that what wins is to put meat on the leftist bone, esp after the WS in Oct. Never fails.

This comes down to a character thing. One guy has the backbone to stand for unpopular policies because he believes they are right for America, and the other doesn't.
