By chad98036
According to the United Nations it is an inflation rate 2200%, a population verging on famine, and shortages of all the basic goods including gasoline, medicine and hard currency.
At least that is the vision the UN endorsed when it selected Zimbabwe to head the U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development over the protests of the United States, Europe and various human rights organizations.

Posted at 12:35am on May 14, 2007 Be careful what you wish for - Cynthia Tucker warns of Generals revolt
By chad98036
America has history of a non-political active duty military establishment, but today on Chris Matthew's morning show on NBC Cynthia Tucker, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, warns of a revolt from active duty Generals if the troop surge continues past September.
from Think Progress
TUCKER: Look for a revolt from active-duty generals if September rolls around and the president is sticking with the surge into ‘08. We’ve already heard from retired generals. But my Atlanta Journal-Constitution colleague Jay Bookman has lots of sources among currently serving military officers who don’t want to fall by the wayside like the generals in Vietnam did, kept pushing a war that they knew was lost.

Posted at 10:31pm on May 10, 2007 Disinformation Alert - Cherry Hill Terror Arrests Black Bag Op To Shore Up REAL ID Act
By chad98036
Following the stunning success of their recent Oakland foray, the covert operators assigned the joint Office of the First Lady / CIA Task Force are at it again.
Many maintain that one of the most pernicious pieces of legislation passed in many years is the REAL ID Act. This act, supposedly designed to help with Homeland Security by establishing minimum requirements for acceptable photo ID, is facing a serious revolt by a number of state governments. Six so far have refused to comply with more contemplating refusal. In short this legislation is in serious trouble.
On May 7th a “Terror Cell” containing three illegal immigrants was arrested in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. They were plotting to attack Soldiers at nearby Fort Dix and were arrested attempting to buy black market weapons to carry out their attack, instead of purchasing legal semi-automatic rifles which I have been reliably informed by the likes of Senator Diane Feinstein, exist only to kill people. Interestingly one of the gateway documents for a firearms purchase is a drivers license which these individuals could not obtain because New Jersey’s identity verification requirements exceed those of the REAL ID act. In fact if these gentleman weren’t living in a Sanctuary City they may have been caught sooner due to their numerous traffic violations.
With the above in mind, and also bearing in mind the fact that the comment period for the regulation implementing REAL ID ended on May 8, 2007, isn’t this all little too convenient. I think so, but you have to give Laura Bush credit for coming up with a plan that is almost Rovian in it’s simplicity and it’s depth. Find a bunch of patsies who are breaking multiple laws and arrest them for breaking those laws. Fiendish I tell you.
As Always I will be there to shine the light on these unprecedented abuses of power.

I say claims because while the US Geologic Survey did detect a 4.2 magnitude quake in the area where North Korea claims it conducted the test there is no real confirmation.
Kim Jong Il has proven himself capable of massive deception before, so it's very possible that they just packed an old railroad tunnel with 150,000 pounds of TNT and bodies of the workers who unloaded the explosives set it off and said, "Waa Laa, we just detonated a nuke". That said I think they really did detonate a nuclear bomb, I was just pointing out a possibility.

I have posted a couple of times before about the Oil Industry (here, here, here), and commented at various blogs about why gasoline substitutes are not the panacea for our energy woes. In short the energy to mass ratio is not high enough for most substitutes to be an efficient alternative.

I originally posted the below on 05 July 2006 at http://independentsources.com . Given the speeches, yesterday and today, at the U.N. as well as France's current attitude in regards to Iran I think it is time to revive the "Chad Doctrine". We just need to add in France with Russia and China and Iran with North Korea.

After the defeat of Joe Lieberman ,by anti-war candidate Ned Lamont ,many wondered what that would mean for other Democratic candidates who had voted for the Iraq war. After all Lieberman had been the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate in 2000 and voted with his party 90% of the time and he was being thrown to the wolves.

Promoted from diaries. This is the future of a Democratic Congress - and it looks a whole heck of a lot like a Democratic past. Specifically, 1975.
If this bothers you, well. There's an obvious answer to that. - Moe Lane.
First excerpts from an interview with Harry Reid. I think he makes it clear that if the Democrats take Congress funding for Iraq will be cut

Link to Amnesty International report: Hezbollah guilty of war crimes - Haaretz - Israel News
It looks like the million monkeys pounding on a million typewriters at Amnesty International finally produced something that isn't Anti-US or Anti-Israeli.
Amnesty International has accused Hezbollah of "serious violations of international humanitarian law, amounting to war crimes" during the recent Lebanese war.
In a report published in London Thursday, the human rights group condemned the "deliberate targeting" of Israeli civilians by Hezbollah.
The report states that 43 civilians, including seven children, were killed in these Hezbollah attacks.Comments (1) / Email this page » / Read More »

Then I read this:
3 Killed Outside U.S. Embassy in Syria
Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in a brazen attack Tuesday using automatic rifles, hand grenades and at least one van rigged with explosives, the government said. Syrian security forces killed three of the attackers...
Witnesses also said the gunmen tried to throw hand grenades into the embassy compound, shouting "Allah Akbar!" or "God is great!" It was not clear if any of the grenades made it over the walls, which are about 8 feet high...

h/t Flopping Aces for this Time Magazine cover piece which provides a little historical perspective on Iraq.
Ever had a nightmare that you’re back in school taking the big exam? George Bush is having one of those right now: he’s trying to pass a test in which every possible answer seems wrong. But the President’s bad dream is all too real. And it has a name: Saddam Hussein. American and U.N. officials believe Saddam blocked the Special Commission inspection teams because they were closing in on his secret stores of biological weapons, some held by the elite Republican Guard. For example, Iraq reportedly has some 900 lbs. of the anthrax bacterium, a single gram of which can kill millions.
