McCain should throw it back

There isn't a long baseball tradition here in the Seattle area. The Mariners have been around for only 30 years and I've been a long-suffering fan since the franchise started. But they do have one newish tradition that I can't help but like. When a visiting player hits a homer, more often than not the fan who catches the ball throws it back onto the field. John McCain should do the same with that endorsement from the New York Times. Last April, he was on the receiving end of a hit piece after he toured a Baghdad market, and now he's being damned with faint praise. The New York Times shouldn't even have bothered. Throw it back, John.

reason. They know the hard core base, AKA dittoheads, are anti-McCain and anti-NYT (correctly). I think they did this because they want to continue this party infighting, or they are scared McCain is the most viable. This is not exactly rocket science, of course that is why they did it. I agree he should throw it back, in fact, it is a great freaking idea, he needs to end this press loving thing, when none of them will ever vote for him.

The people at the NYT are delusional about who they are. They know they are the most respected and most influential paper in the world and that their reporting is fair, accurate, and above reproach. Even those stupid rubes in flyover country can't help but respect a NYT endorsement.

You have to look at this from the perspective of someone inside the NYT bubble, not the perspectives of somebody on the outside who hates the NYT (which would be most of us).

He courted the NYTimes for their endorsement. Every other GOP candidate refused to meet with the editorial board

In a separate piece, the Times — which leans toward the Democrats on the editorial page — endorsed Sen. John McCain of Arizona as the best of the Republican candidates.

Not surprisingly, McCain kept up his reputation for rarely denying access to journalists: He was the only Republican candidate to meet with the editorial board.

McCain sought out and got the NYTimes endorsement in 2000 too.

For him to repudiate it after gunning for it doesn't make much sense, eh?

I mean if you are going to run for the President of the United States, you should try to get your message out to every American. I think this helps him because in a General Election campaign because I think the average Indy voter is sick of polarization in DC.

McCain '08

Few fans enjoyed as magical a year as Mariner fans in 2001, even though it ended far too soon. 116 wins, amazing new stadium, perfect summer weather - even by Seattle standards, Cal Ripken and the All-Star game, Ichiro excitement, Pinella's charisma, "Pay-Rod" in last place, the rivalry with the Yankees and Oakland, the Mariners pulling victories in every form imaginable - with a different player making a contribution each time, likeable players genuinely enjoying the game, and, of course, the injustice of David Bell's ommission from the All-Star team, at least I remember being livid. But I was 15 and living in Fort Lewis at the time.
While the Ms have never made a World Series, when I look back on that season, I can't say we weren't blessed for one year.

We haven't been the same since. Just look at what he did with the Cubs last year.

That's the opposite of fair.

Hey, they stuck America with Obama. It's only fair they get stuck with Guillen in return.
