By Chris Jones
It was hard to keep from laughing this morning when a placard with Karl Rove's name sat in front of an empty chair where the former Presidential aide was supposed to testify. Democrats have tried unsuccessfully to tie Karl Rove to some kind of scandal for the last seven years.

Posted at 2:04pm on May 27, 2008 'Recount' Proves Democrats Tried To Steal The Election
By Chris Jones
I just finished watching "Recount" starring Kevin Spacey that the far-left has been promoting all week. To be honest, I was very surprised how the movie turned out. I figured it would be 90 minutes of red meat for the far-left crowd who still suffer sleepless nights thinking about how Bush "stole" the election in 2000.
Cosmetically the film turned out as I anticipated it would. Democrats were depicted as righteous crusaders who only wanted to do the right thing and make every vote count. Republicans on the other hand led by former Secretary of State James Baker were meant to be depicted as political thugs who used a combination of dirty tricks and favors to get George W. Bush elected.

Posted at 1:38pm on May 21, 2008 Chuck Hagel Isn't Really A Republican
By Chris Jones
Chuck Hagel should really stop pretending to be a Republican, when he hasn't actually acted like one in years. Republicans should just officially take Lieberman in trade for Hagel and get it over with.
Chuck's most recent act of treason was his speech to a small gathering at the home of the Ambassador to Italy a few nights ago. The faux Republican lambasted McCain and heaped praise on Obama for his willingness to appease talk with America's enemies.

Posted at 4:20pm on Apr. 28, 2008 Wright Was Right, Then Wrong Again
By Chris Jones
We are currently enjoying day number two of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright media blitz, and it gets a little worse at every stop.
I watched Rev. Wright on Bill Moyers the other night and was
impressed. Keeping in mind that Bill Moyers is a dishonest hack who's
just trying to get Obama elected, I still thought Rev. Wright showed an
impressive intellect and made some very good points.

By Chris Jones
In his latest column, NY Times Op-ed writer Frank Rich gets it wrong (as usual) when talking about Iraq. This week in particular Frank misses the mark with his explanation of why movies about the Iraq war do so poorly at the Box Office.

By Chris Jones
From The Politico:
The church attended by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) fought back Sunday against mounting criticism of its pastor, accusing the media of character assassination and “crucifixion.”
Otis Moss II, the current pastor of Trinity United Church, used his pulpit to defend his congregation and its past minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., from a wave of controversy stemming from inflammatory statements made by Wright.

Posted at 6:12pm on Feb. 12, 2008 The Return Of Big Brother In Putin's Russia
By Chris Jones
The St. Petersburg Times has an interesting Op-Ed about how President Putin has built up Russia's security apparatus to the point that it now it exceeds the power the KGB once held in the Soviet Union.
As a former KGB man himself, Putin has spent his Presidency rebuilding the secret police and intelligence services that former President Yeltsin dismantled. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the KGB was reborn as the FSB as it is called today.

By Chris Jones
From the Times Online:
A STUDY that claimed 650,000 people were killed as a result of the invasion of Iraq was partly funded by the antiwar billionaire George Soros.
Soros, 77, provided almost half the £50,000 cost of the research, which appeared in The Lancet, the medical journal. Its claim was 10 times higher than consensus estimates of the number of war dead.

Posted at 7:18pm on Jan. 8, 2008 Newsletters Finally Reveal Why Racist Hate Groups Support Ron Paul
By Chris Jones
Ron Paul is my Congressman. He has been my Congressman for as long as I've known what a Congressman is. Like many of Paul's constituents I didn't really know much about him other than he was a Republican and a doctor.
It was not until Ron Paul decided to run for President in 2008, that I first began hearing his views. Suffice it say that I was not impressed and found the vast majority of his views to be naive, extreme, and at times completely ridiculous.
Every election has at least one crazy guy in it, but what I started noticing more were the types of people his campaign attracted.
Let's just say they're not the kind of supporters you would typically see for a Republican candidate, and frankly not the kind of people a Republican candidate would want support from.
His supporters are often times an odd mix of hippie-types, anti-war activists, communists, anarchists, Neo-Nazi groups, and a few 9/11 Truthers sprinkled in for good measure.
I have wondered for months what it was about Ron Paul that attracted such a repugnant group of supporters. I have asked aloud on this very blog for someone to please explain.
I listened to Ron Paul give numerous speeches and never heard anything that would be even remotely attractive to Nazi hate groups or "9/11 truthers."
I've said on a number of occasions that these crazy people have to know something about Ron Paul that the rest of us don't.
It turns out they did.
Thankfully, today I finally have my answer. The New Republic has tracked down Ron Paul's newsletters going back a decade that at one time were quite popular among those who share his unique brand of "Conservatism."
In the age before blogs, newsletters occupied a prominent place in right-wing political discourse. With the pages of mainstream political magazines typically off-limits to their views, hardline conservatives resorted to putting out their own, less glossy publications.
According to The National Review, Ron Paul's newsletters were among the most popular during that time period.
What the newsletters reveal is a man consumed by racism, bigotry, and paranoia. After reading the newsletters it's very easy to understand why Ron Paul attracts such loathsome supporters.
Here are some excerpts from various Ron Paul newsletters from 1978-1997. Be sure to check out the full story with even more excerpts at The New Republic.
Race:
"A Special Issue on Racial Terrorism" analyzes the Los Angeles riots of 1992: "Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks three days after rioting began. ... What if the checks had never arrived? No doubt the blacks would have fully privatized the welfare state through continued looting. But they were paid off and the violence subsided."
The November 1990 issue of the Political Report had kind words for David Duke.
This newsletter describes Martin Luther King Jr. as "a world-class adulterer" who "seduced underage girls and boys" and "replaced the evil of forced segregation with the evil of forced integration."
The January 1991 edition of the Political Report refers to King as a "world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours" and a "flagrant plagiarist with a phony doctorate."

Posted at 4:14pm on Jan. 2, 2008 London Telegraph Makes Gen. Petraeus Person Of The Year
By Chris Jones
Time magazine got it wrong, but London's Sunday Telegraph gets it right. The Telegraph has made General David Petraeus its "Person Of The Year" and wrote a great piece about the man called General Petraeus: man with a message of hope.
He has been the man behind the US troop surge over the past 10 months, the last-ditch effort to end Iraq's escalating civil war by putting an extra 28,000 American troops on the ground.
So far, it has achieved what many feared was impossible. Sectarian killings are down. Al-Qaeda is on the run. And the two million Iraqis who fled the country are slowly returning. Progress in Iraq is relative - 538 civilians died last month. But compared with the 3,000 peak of December last year, it offers at least a glimmer of hope.
Nonetheless, why should we choose to nominate Petraeus?
...the reason for picking Petraeus is simple. Iraq, whatever the current crises in Afghanistan and Pakistan, remains the West's biggest foreign policy challenge of this decade, and if he can halt its slide into all-out anarchy, Gen Petraeus may save more than Iraqi lives.
A failed Iraq would not just be a second Vietnam, nor would it just be America's problem.
It would be a symbolic victory for al-Qaeda, a safe haven for jihadists to plot future September 11s and July 7s, and a battleground for a Shia-Sunni struggle that could draw in the entire Middle East. Our future peace and prosperity depend, in part, on fixing this mess. And, a year ago, few had much hope.
It appears that not only are U.S. troops awed by Petraeus, but the British, Irish, Australians, and others are as well.
...it should be pointed out that British commanders hold Gen Petraeus in similarly high regard.
Several Northern Ireland veterans who worked with him in Baghdad this year came away with the opinion that it is now America, not Britain, that is the world leader in counter-insurgency.
I think it says a lot that our British friends recognize the positive turn of events in Iraq and the man responsible for that turnaround. In America on the other hand we have despicable groups like MoveOn.org who traffic in garbage like the now infamous "General Petraeus or General Betray Us?" advertisement.
