I have posted plenty of comments here, but never done a blog entry. This is a letter to the editor my father wrote in response to this article by Fred Barnes in the weekly standard:

Fred Barnes’ interesting article underscores a serious defect in the way we Republicans choose our leadership. What do we do wrong? We promote and nominate individuals with mainly, often solely, legal-political backgrounds. It’s easy to tell when this is the case; just go to the biography section of the congressman or senator posted on their house and senate websites. If it begins, “Congressman Jones was elected to congress in 1984 after serving 8 years in the state legislature……”, then we have a problem.
