Call for a new House Leader: John Shadegg

First, I think we should all admit that we need a change in our Republican House leadership. I'm not sure Tom Davis is perfect to run the NRCC but I have seen his name suggested as a replacement for Cole.
However, I think we need to look higher on the totem pole.
Just like we should have in 2006, it is time to elect Rep. John Shadegg as House GOP Leader.
The National Review's endorsement:
John Shadegg is the right man to clean house and restore the GOP to its core principles. ...
Shadegg is a member of the class of 1994 who never lost the conservative, reformist spirit of that watershed year. He voted against No Child Left Behind, and, more recently, against the prescription-drug bill. He has warm personal relations with the conference's moderates, and is a fresh face at a moment that cries out for one. ...
Conservatives both inside and outside the House have complained a lot recently, because there has been much to complain about. But venting and carping have their limits. Now, there is a chance to make a real difference. Now is the time for the Republican Study Committee, the caucus of House conservatives, to stand up and be counted.

And RedState's endorsement:
The time has come for a new face in the House Republican leadership. Whether we accept Boehner or Blunt (if we were forced to choose, it would be Boehner) we would be choosing a compromised leader at a time when every indication is that the Democrats intend to wage war on ethics. We need a better choice. John Shadegg is that choice.
John Shadegg, from Arizona, is a former leader of the conservative Republican Study Committee. John Shadegg is committed to advancing Republican goals. He is also committed to the conservative ideals of smaller government, less red tape, less government imposed burdens, and great individual liberty. Republicans need a conservative team player in leadership and Shadegg fits the profile. ...
It is time for Republicans on Capitol Hill to take ethics reforms seriously and to take conservatives for more than just reliable votes in tight situations. It is time to deliver a reformer and a conservative into the leadership.

....however there will likely be a big shaking up in the GOP house leadership after this election.
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
recharged, and I just don't see that happening under current leadership.
Right, now it isn't going to happen. It will all happen at the end of November after the train wreck.
Right now no GOP Congressman wants a leadership position, especially Boehner, Blunt and Tom Cole's jobs. They couldn't pay anyone enough who values their survival. There is not enough time to undo the damage with no money to get the new message out in time for the election.
Unless there is money to get the message out and convince the electorate that the Republicans are getting their act together, the train wreck will still occur. McCain, even if he wins, and I think he will, will not save them. McCain is going to pull independents and moderate Republicans, but he will have a hard time pulling conservative voters out. This will dramatically impact the vote down ballot because those independent and moderate Republican voters are more likely to vote Democrat in other races.
It is going to be a very bad and ugly election. I am just holding on for the ride. I will still do what I can, and I will vote for McCain and the Republicans on the ballot, but around here I will be in the minority. The state elections are the only place we stand a chance on the ballot here in South Dakota.
I do not have any special knowledge or inside information. I only have my basic logic, common sense and assumptions on this. However, I don't think I am wrong about this either. I would be very surprised if I was, and if a future GOP Congressional leader wants to commit political suicide that would really shock me.
But his is just my opinion.

If Shaddegg is the consensus pick for new HML, then we can get *our* guy in on the ground floor, get the right plan in place for rebuilding the party in a conservative image.

The House Republicans don't need a "change" in leadership, they don't have any now. They just need real leadership & my CongrssCritter™ is just the guy toprovide it.

CongressCritter™: Never have so few felt like they were owed so much by so many for so little.
I just don't see it happening before November. I really wish it would though. I guess I have been too disappointed this last year and a half that I am not expecting it before then.
Only after crawling out from the wreckage will the Congress Critters wake up and realize it. Unfortunately, they are only realizing it now that the light at the end of the tunnel they were hoping for is a train, and with dried up campaign dollars, they are not in a position to avoid it now.
Too little too late.
But that is my opinion.

I don't think anything is changing till after the election. I think McCain will win but the GOP loses 20 House seats and 5 in the Senate (the retirements just kill the party). This will call for immediate change within the party and I think there will be a concerted effort to finally get someone in power who will make changes.
As Wubbie's World mentioned, taking over that spot is political suicide right now.
Boehner and Blunt should be sent to GULAG.
Cole, from what I understand, is a really talented guy, but doesn't have much to work with.
One last thing:
PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS bouncing a guy just because he gets indicted by a bunch of Dems. That's the oldest trick in the book. The D's can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.
Don't go down that road.

One of the few bright spots for Republicans in Congress will be that we will probably hold Barbara Cubin's seat in Wyoming. I think a guy named Mark Gordon is going to win. He is all over the TV with tough sounding conservative ads and really hitting the illegal alien issue.

Subtract out his two most recent self-serving contributions which came just before he decided to run as a Republicn. He gives about twice as much to the Democrats, John Kerry and the Siera Club as he gives to Republicans.
Even when we win, we'll lose.
Shadegg is not the answer.
He votes well and I like him on a lot of issues, but as a leader and a spokes person for conservative ideas ready to fire people up. Fail.
And shake things up now.
That way when November rolls around they can say "We didn't kick you out even though our consituents told us to, but now you're out."

own diary....just saying :-)
