By CrabCakes

First off, I'm a liberal, so you can take this all with the proverbial grain of salt if you're so inclined.

I've been following (admittedly with a bit of glee) the infighting going on between Huckabots, Romneybots, Rudybots (are there any Rudybots left, by the way?), etc. as primary season draws nigh, but there's one obvious piece of the puzzle that I haven't seen anyone bring up: He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named is going to wage a third party bid. This is pretty obvious given that he's raised an enormous amount of money and is spending almost none of it. He knows he's got a better shot at winning as a third party ticket than at winning the GOP nomination (as in a .000001% as opposed to a 0% chance). So he'll keep watching the cash roll in, wait until it's clear that he's out of the nomination game, and use his war chest to wage a third party bid.

Posted at 6:19pm on Oct. 9, 2007 Crabcakes' Dream Scenario for the 2008 Election

By CrabCakes

I'm sorry that I haven't been commenting much over the past month. The semester began, so this liberal hasn't had as much time on his hands. Rest assured, though, that I've been diligently keeping up with my favorite conservative blog.

I've noticed a lot of infighting here lately, as primary season is wont to occasion, so I thought that I'd give my two cents' on the Republican candidates. Of course my take can be accepted, ignored, argued against, etc., but I want to be clear that this is my honest opinion and not some kind of political jujitsu Jedi-mindtrick that I'm trying to pull.

Posted at 7:15am on May 9, 2007 The Sick "Cure" for Downs

By CrabCakes

As usual, I preface my post with a disclaimer: I am a moderate Democrat. Also, given the nature of this post, I also want to note that I am pro-choice as well. To elaborate, I think Roe was a bad decision, I'm not a big fan of abortion, but the damage has been done. I don't think outlawing abortion is the most effective method of reducing abortions. So, there's my disclaimer.

All that said, this is disgusting. 90% of people diagnosed with a Downs child choose to abort the child.

Posted at 8:40am on Apr. 30, 2007 Global Warming and Philistines

By CrabCakes

First, my disclaimer: As some of you may know, I am a Democrat, albeit a moderate one. I am not, however, anti-Republican. I am posting this to hear honest feedback, not to convince you all to think like me; I know this isn't the site for that. That said, I noticed a few posts about global warming over the past day or so, and I thought I'd give my take.

Global warming, whether man-made or not (I think it is), will not be a catyclismic threat to human existence, in my opinion. What it will mean, though, is mass migration. When climate change happens and areas where one could previously survive become uninhabitable, people do not simply stay there and die; they move to somewhere that is currently inhabitable. So what does this have to do with Philistines?

Posted at 5:21pm on Apr. 18, 2007 Good decision, bad law

By CrabCakes

Today the Supreme Court handed down a decision that, to my mind, was the proper one given the case put before them. The Court has spent enough time declaring acts of Congress unconstitutional, and this move was a breath of fresh air. Let Congress pass their laws, and let us vote them out if they make horrible laws. The law that was upheld today is precisely one of these horrible, but constitutional, laws.
