There has been a lot of bandwidth sacrificed recently regarding McCain's running mate. One name that I haven't heard mentioned (please forgive me if you have) is Zell Miller. Most of you have probably read Jonah Goldberg's latest column suggesting McCain pick a Democrat. With the basic fact regarding the current stench surrounding the Republican brand and the need for McCain to pull a lot of independents to his side, this is not such a far fetched idea. The problem is the lack of Democrats suitable to the Republican base - a demographic that is already suspicous of McCain.

Back in 1977, when I was in 8th grade, our class was assigned to read the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Not only did we read the book, but, as a year long project, we created a reenactment of the famous courtroom scene where Atticus Finch defends the black Tom Robinson from the charge of raping a white woman. Somewhere in John Hill School, a videotape (which was brand new technology to all of us) of this scene might still exist. We were learning of historical bigotry, but it turns out we would also get a glimpse of future bigotry.
