Darin H's blog

By Darin H
I want to share some news with everyone - I'm going to be a dad. This will be our first child. I'm so excited! And yes, a bit scared. My adorable wife Erica is about 9 weeks along (due Jan 27th) and she just had her first Ultrasound a couple of days ago:

S/he is just about the size of a grape right now, but you can hear the heart beating away already! In the picture, the head is on the left and the rest of the body is on the right (that's one big headed kid!). We have a while until we find out what the sex will be, and have a few trips planned that we won't be able to take for a bit after the baby is born.

Posted at 2:12pm on Jun. 18, 2008 Hope and Change in a 9/10 world.
By Darin H
This video bothers me more and more every time I see it:
There is HopeChangeHope's policy to deal with terrorism. I'll get back to it in a second. Let me turn now to Obama adviser Richard Clarke, who in defense of Obama said on a conference call, "I'd like them to show where in the record Barack Obama has favored only a law enforcement approach." Mr. Clarke, take a look at the video above.

By Darin H
The Detroit Lions select Caleb Campbell - Safety.
Campbell has good size and is a very smart player. He has strong safety skills and can come up in the box and make plays. His coverage skills are underappreciated. He's a big, athletic safety that has run in the 4.5 range. He finished his career with 307 tackles, several of them coming in the bone crushing variety. He received a standing ovation in Radio City Music Hall yesterday.

Posted at 7:54pm on Apr. 25, 2008 Lincoln Chafee just called me.
By Darin H
I just got a recorded phone call from former Senator and former Republican Lincoln Chafee here in Oregon which asked me to switch party registration to Democrat so I could vote for Barack Obama in the upcoming Oregon Primary (we have until next Tuesday to do so before the May 20th primary).
Linc the Stink™ endorsed Obama back in February and stabbed McCain in the back after McCain had helped Linc raise money for his failed bid for reelection.

Posted at 2:39am on Apr. 9, 2008 Voting With Their Feet
By Darin H
Earlier, Mark Kilmer pointed us to a story from ABC "News" in which the "journalist" couldn't find one Soldier who didn't want to go home (or vote for someone who would bring them home quicker). Maybe they should try for facts instead of anecdotes:

Posted at 6:55pm on Apr. 8, 2008 I Will (not) Listen.
By Darin H
I blogged earlier about Barack Obama's contradiction during his appearance on The View that he listens to everybody before making a decision, but in the next segment said his mind was already made up about leaving Iraq and he wasn't going to listen to anyone.
The RNC has a new ad out highlighting Obama's (mostly) and Clinton's (lesser) obvious contradictions about Iraq in speeches that they have given in that regard. I like the contrast in splicing Petraeus/Obama/Clinton together.

Posted at 3:32pm on Mar. 29, 2008 Barack the disingenuous hypocrite.
By Darin H
The Wife™ watches The View everyday (one of the downsides of DVR is that The View, Oprah and Dr. Phil magically get recorded daily). She knows that I'm into this whole politics thing, so we watched the Barack Obama interview together last night. One thing that stood out in my mind was a few obvious contradictions (I don't have the transcript, these are paraphrases):

Posted at 6:39pm on Mar. 17, 2008 More Rust Belt for McCain (OH poll) plus Sunshine (FL poll)
By Darin H
Last week I pointed out how well Senator John McCain was doing in leaning blue Pennsylvania against both Sens Clinton and Obama (leading by 6% and 3% respectively). In the scope the the electoral college, PA holds 21 EC votes and went for both Kerry and Gore.
I also noted Saul's earlier blog about Sen McCain leading in blue leaning Michigan (both by 3%). Michigan's 17 electors also went for both Kerry and Gore.

Posted at 7:26pm on Mar. 13, 2008 McCain doing well in the Rust Belt (PA Poll)
By Darin H
John McCain seems to be the right man in the right place at the right time.
Super Saul blogged earlier about a new poll showing John McCain with a small, within the margin of error lead in the leaning blue swing state of Michigan over both Obama and Clinton (for those not clicking over - a 3 point lead over both).

Posted at 1:29pm on Feb. 27, 2008 McCain to Obama: Al-Qaida is in Iraq. It's called 'al-Qaida in Iraq.'
By Darin H
Direct hit.
Obama the Turtledove, naive as ever said, that "if al-Qaida is forming a base in Iraq" he would take action.
Senator McCain speaking from Texas today, responded to Obama's Jimmy Carteresque policy:
"When you examine that statement, it's pretty remarkable," McCain told a crowd in Tyler, Texas.
"I have some news. Al-Qaida is in Iraq. It's called 'al-Qaida in Iraq,'" McCain said, drawing laughter at Obama's expense.

Posted at 2:26pm on Jan. 30, 2008 I Don't Wanna Hear It
By Darin H
Seriously.
I think at this point, there is more than a 90% chance than John McCain will be the Republican nominee in the fall. And of course that has brought out the "I will never vote for John McCain" blogs and comments. You know what? I don't care and I don't want to hear it here at RedState.
You have problems with John McCain on the issues? Great, I do to. You have concerns with his temperament? Me as well. Let's discuss those. John McCain, for better or worse, is pretty well known. Whether it is where I agree with him or not, I know what I'm going to get in a President McCain.

Posted at 12:00am on Nov. 30, 2007 Let's help CNN
By Darin H
CNN completely dropped the ball in the debate last night (incompetence or outright hackery, either way it wasn't pretty). They claimed that they wanted to help Republicans decide who to vote for, but the questions CNN chose were anything but helpful. I felt the same disgust that Mitt Romney did - he had that look of "You have GOT to be kidding me, this is a serious question for a presidential election and not a joke?" a couple of times.
I know CNN is aware of RedState.com so maybe someone over there will stumble across this after taking up the Director's challenge of putting on a real debate actually for Republican voters. If they do, how about we provide them with a list of questions that actual Republicans want to ask of our nominee seekers? I think we could come up with something better than the Democrat activists' questions, so let's see 'em!
Come on CNN, I dare you to ask question from actual Republicans!

By Darin H
Rush got the letter from Clear Channel Communications CEO Mark Mays, his friend. 41 Democratic Senators signed it and sent it to Clear Channel. Rush turns the table again on the Democrats!
All proceeds will go to Marine Corps -- Law Enforcement Foundation (Which provides scholarship assistance to children of Marines and Federal law enforcement personnel whose parent dies on duty).

Posted at 8:53pm on Sep. 18, 2007 I do blame Kerry
By Darin H
So a jerk is a jerk somewhere in Florida, which brought about this discussion. I decided to do this as another blog rather than just a comment because it got a bit longer than I originally thought, and might be a bit of a different topic (even though it's related).
John Kerry is to blame in this (partially anyways), and the entire Democratic Party owns this mess as well. First, from the AP story towards the end where it describes what Senator Kerry was doing during this whole incident:
