Or why Obama is acting so stupid right now.

The Obama campaign has launched an all out offensive to try and discredit John McCain. In what would appear to be a mindbogglingly stupid tactic, they are trying to discredit the 5 years he spent in a POW camp along with the rest of his military service. This may in fact go down in history as the worst campaign tactic of all time, surpassing the former winning entry from Walter Mondale, who thought it would be a great idea to promise to raise taxes. Of course, we have many months to go, so there are plenty of additional opportunities for the Obama campaign to surpass even this paragon of imbecility.

Posted at 4:17pm on Jun. 30, 2008 The conservative messages of Wall-E

By Dave in Fla

*Spoiler Alert*

After the weekend discussion of Wall-E’s liberal/environmental messages, I wanted to expand on a point I made that the movie also contains a number of conservative themes that have been missed by the immediate negative reaction to the environmental themes. I am not going to discuss (or defend) the strong environmental message of the movie. It is what it is. I’m also not going to discuss (or defend) the technical inconsistencies of the movie (e.g. where does their food come from? Why does the probe ship travel to the Axiom in real-space while the Axiom uses hyperdrive to return to Earth). I’m only pointing out conservative themes to balance people’s reactions.

Posted at 2:29pm on Jun. 28, 2008 Heh, Bill to Obama "Kiss my ***"

By Dave in Fla

(h/t KLo over at NRO)

Seems that Bill is just a tad "bitter". From the UK Telegraph (full article):

The Telegraph has learned that the former president's rage is still so great that even loyal allies are shocked by his patronising attitude to Mr Obama, and believe that he risks damaging his own reputation by his intransigence.

Posted at 6:13pm on Jun. 27, 2008 Shameless plug for the Reagan Library on the 4th

By Dave in Fla

If you live in the Southern California area and are looking for something fun to do on the 4th, I heartily recommend a drive out to Simi Valley to visit the Reagan Library. While I live in Florida, I work most weeks in Los Angeles, and my wife and I have spent the 4th in LA for the last two years. Both years we have headed up to the library during the day, then settled in for watching fireworks from our hotel.

Posted at 3:02pm on Jun. 27, 2008 Wash Post doesn't appear to believe in the Obamessiah

By Dave in Fla

I am by nature a curious person. For awhile now I’ve been listening to and accepting the general impression we all have that the main stream media is completely in the tank for Obama. Let’s face it, given the number of differing positions and outrageous statements made, and the collective resulting silence, it is an easy conclusion to draw. But a recent blog entry about the Washington Post criticizing Obama for not participating in townhall debates with McCain piqued my interest (h/t Bill Dupray) regarding their coverage.

Posted at 2:12pm on Jun. 26, 2008 Is McCain actually campaigning? A 2004 flashback

By Dave in Fla

Flashback to March 16, 2004:

The bright star of the Democrat party, a war veteran, steps onto the stage in swing state of West Virginia. He is confident and articulate. He has the audience in the palm of his hands as he deftly handles complicated questions of policy and discusses the war.

Then someone asks him about his continued vote to fund the war, given his public position against it.

Posted at 1:03pm on Jun. 26, 2008 The 3rd Amendment

By Dave in Fla

With all discussion of Heller today and comparisons to 1st amendment decisions, I thought it would be worth giving a thought to the poor ignored 3rd amendment.

"No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law."

Don't feel bad little guy, we love you too. Maybe I can get my freeloader son to join the Army and kick him out of the house using you.

Posted at 10:56am on Jun. 26, 2008 What's up with New Mexico?

By Dave in Fla

I was listening to Rush yesterday, and he raised a point that I thought was interesting. In essence his assertion is that the purpose of Dems in Congress is to transfer wealth from the Republican consituents (Red state, middle class) to the Dem consituents (Blue state, poor).

I picked up on that, and thought I'd take a look and see if there were any numbers that would show this effect. It seemed to me that if you looked at the federal tax revenues vs. expenditures on a state by state basis, then you should be able to see some rough trends.

Posted at 1:24pm on Jun. 25, 2008 Is YouTube the great equalizer in media communications?

By Dave in Fla

There are two recent "ads" being passed around the conservative blogsphere produced by the McCain campaign. The first is discussion of Obama's lack of commitment to keeping his word. The second is a nice Fred Thompson narrarated piece that provides a positive message about McCain.

Watching these ads, I was wondering about how effective they will be in helping McCain campaign. Will they actually help him win votes in November?
