Conservapedia

Today I learned about an alternative to Wikipedia. It's called Conservapedia. The encyclopedia is in it's infancy but looks like it's going to catch on. I'm going to write a post on my blog Whatever Comes to Mind... A Christians Viewpoint.

I urge all of you to start using and contributing to Conservapedia

I am not saying that conservatives would deliberately distort but an ideological encyclopedia ? It sounds like a project you would want to trick libs into. You could have a parallel project of everything thats wrong in the Libopedia.

The problem with ideologues writing objective pieces is that some things are assumed.

For example, on the Giuliani page:
"Guiliani's biggest supporter is the New York media, who like his liberal stance on social issues and Guiliani's devotion to the media."

Yeah, the NYT loved Giuliani. And if that isn't enough, they can't even spell his name right.

is a bit eccentric, too, as for example this article on unicorns.

it's early days yet. But there will be some varied viewpoints to try to reconcile.

And I actually thought it was a satire site. Sort of like the Stephen Colbert of wikis.

It's so over the top it is hard to believe it is serious.

There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why ... I dream of things that never were and ask why not. - Robert Kennedy

It claims to be the project of 50-odd homeschooled high school-age students. Assuming that's true (and the writing would appear to bear it out), it seems prudent to forego an endorsement until it is at least cleaned up enough to not look even more ridiculous than it already sounds. As it is, I waver back and forth between believing it to be genuine and believing it to be an elaborate hoax.

Kyoto Now! (Because only pollution from the US hurts the planet)

I can't say that the stuff I have seen has done Conservatism any favors.

I've been saying for a while that we need some kind of resource where we can collect together the standard set of bogus liberal arguments and the conservative answers to them. Unfortunately (I haven't checked out their site yet), this site sounds like it's set its sights way too high. We don't need a replacement for all of Wikipedia, we need a site where we can go when we run into liberal number 62,462,472 that's claiming that we never found any WMDs in Iraq so we can quickly find the articles detailing as such to throw back in their face.

This is a horrible idea with even worse execution. Seeing lefty college kids try to build stuff like this is annoying, but I don't see how you can claim to be so far above them. At least they can format a page.

And to raise all those above, take this!

However, there are a number of lines of evidence that point to dinosaurs and man coexisting. [2] [3] For example, trained scientists have reported seeing a live dinosaur. [4] A thousand people reported seeing a dinosaur-like monster in two sightings around Sayram Lake in Xinjiang according to the Chinese publication, China Today.

In Wikipedia, you can always change it. Granted it can get reverted, but that is the point of the site. People put what interested them on the site and I ususally find it helpful and fairly accurate. I would never use it for a research paper or anything serious without cross checking the facts.

I think this Conservapedia is a bad idea. The time taken to create and maintain this site should be put into making Wikipeidia a better site for all.

Some of this stuff has a 0% chance of going into Wikipedia, or any encyclopedia. If your goal is an encyclopedia that states than man and dinosaur co-exist, that unicorns are real, and the moon is nothing but proof of creation, you are going to have to make your own site.

The site does serve to shield someone from ever hearing information or opinion contrary to their preset disposition. That appears to be the real goal of the site. I think it is a very tragic goal, but the site is certainly a good way of accomplishing such a mission.

I don't think it's intentions are to shield someone from a contrary opinion. By it's nature Conservapedia is a contrary opinion. Wiki is okay but, like Conservapedia, it's open so anybody can contribute and the contributions need not be accurate.

Bee mentioned a need for a site that listed articles and resources that are contrary to liberal ideology. I agree. That would be a good idea. How do we go about cataloging news articles and resources?
