Did Obama just lie about being around for controversial sermons by Rev. Wright? Back when this looked like it was just a minor issue that would probably blow over Obama said on his Huffington Post blog that:

"And the sermons I heard him preach always related to our obligation to love God and one another, to work on behalf of the poor, and to seek justice at every turn." (March 14, 2008)

I hate to admit this, but I just saw this on Kos and thought it could be useful here. It appears to be a list of the emails of virtually all of the major media players around. We can use this to inform the media about the shadiness of Mr. Obama and hope they actually have the integrity to run legitimate stories. I propose we start with Leon's report about the kickback Obama's wife got from the newly elected senator.

Let's be honest here. Romney and his campaign have essentially brought this defeat upon themselves through somewhat risky campaign strategies. In the beginning, Mitt gambled that he could spend a fortune on advertising and campaigning in Iowa/NH and win those going away, getting the name recognition (he didn't have elsewhere) and momentum he needed to carry through to today. When that strategy began to fall apart (due to Huck's surge), Romney immediately went viscously negative against his competition (Huck in Iowa, McCain in NH/FL, Rudy in FL, etc) hoping that his money could knock the competition off and still gain him the momentum from the early wins (that he ended up not getting).

I am more convinced than ever that Romney is not to be trusted on his conversion to the pro-life cause. I am sorry, but I know in my household that when we go out, the wife carries the checkbook and typically writes the checks (it fits much nicer in her purse than my pocket). So the argument that he had nothing to do with the donation check made out to planned parenthood (at an event he attended personally) seems to fall a bit short for me.

For all of us who were hoping this day would come, it appears that Mike Huckabee (former Governor of Arkansas) is finally set to enter the race for 2008. This is the candidate we may have been looking for, as he has little negative baggage and has not held a federal elected office.

The worst thing that happened in Ohio on Tuesday was not the loss of Blackwell or Dewine, but the passing of a horrible minimum wage constitutional amendment. The amendment raises the minimum wage to I believe $6.85 an hour, which by itself is hardly crippling, but it also adjusts this new minimum wage by the inflation rate every year. For those who understand compounding interest and the horrible effects of inflation, this is going to prove to be a death blow to Ohio's already less than stellar economy.

I have been a loyal Republican voter since I turned 18 in 1996 (Dole was my first presidential vote) and have voted for a Republican for every national and state level office since then. I am now seriously questioning why I should vote for those Republicans in this election. The current Republicans at the national level seem merely to talk up conservative ideals, but end up voting for the lobbyists or PC pushers. The immigration bill (senate) and the inability of the house to lift the moratorium on OCS gas drilling (even in the face of a national energy security crisis) have probably pushed me over the edge. While the tax cuts have helped some (maybe $500 a year for me), I have real concern that there has been no serious Republican effort to permanently fix the AMT (which may affect me in the near future), which amounts to a much bigger tax increase on middle class America than the tax cuts will offset. Finally, the rampant spending that has been racked up over the past 4 years has really fried me, as I became a Republican predominantly out of fiscal conservatism and now have seen that eroded into simply hollow words at the national level. Please tell me why I should give my vote to the current Republicans running this year (and abortion is not an issue with me). I am an Ohioan (so its Dewine and Gilmour).

It seems that both Redstate and Kos are in support of reducing or eliminating pork from our budget, so I say why can't we (in the blogoshpere and our influences outside it) have a temporary truce and see if the internet really can influence our elected "representatives". I propose that we (both Redstate and Kos) get together to harass our Senators and get the media to portray this pork non stop until the public is so outraged that Coburn's amendments pass from shame (and fear of backlash). Saving that outcome, maybe it is time to throw all incumbents out of office that do not respect our money (at least make them go through nasty primaries).

I am relatively new to Redstate, but having read the Trevino farewell and original post have come to wonder why one cannot be a conservative and also be critical of the president. I am very fiscally conservative and somewhat less so socially and voted for W twice (and Dole in my other election), but I still find it perfectly reasonable to be quite critical when I believe it is warranted.

And I find the disaster that is NOLA to be a good place for criticism. It goes to the heart of our terrorism preparation, as if takes us 5 days to begin adequately responding to a hurricane that we saw coming, what will our response be if some terrorist nukes (or bio or chem attacks) one of our big metro areas? Do I blame Bush for the hurricane or flooding, no, but I do begin to place blame and criticism at his feet for the abysmally slow response that our government has had to the horrific situation on the ground. There is no reason that thousands of people should have been stuck without food, water, or security in the Superdome or Convention Center for days following the hurricane. There is no reason that helicopters should not have been airdropping troops, water, and food into NO starting Tuesday morning. There is no reason that our President should have been at a photo op that is going to kill the party in the 2006 elections instead of responding to this mess.

George Bush has failed the country and his party in this disaster and we will all feel the repurcussions.

This is my first post here. I have been a Republican since my first election (1996) and still consider myself one, although I do admit I am more of a fiscal conservative than a social one. The question I have is why should I vote Republican in 2006/2008? The Republicans in Congress are spending like Democrats, except they are cutting taxes and fighting a war at the same time and burdening us all with a ton of future debt and more importantly debt service payments, which reduce our ability to spend in the future. And as for the President, I am in utter disbelief that he has not used the veto at all on spending measures (whether it would get overridden or not), upset at the cost of the medicare bill and war, and not very pleased at all about the government getting into my porn and what not. While I seriously doubt I would vote for a Democrat, I and many people like me may very well stay at home if we cannot be convinced as to why I should help reelect Republicans in 2006/2008.
