Posted at 1:06am on Mar. 3, 2008 Obama and Catholics... an opening for McCain?
By dhannon_pdx
I was reading through the blogs and news, and noticed an interesting article at Politico.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/8789.html
While the premise of the article is the complex relationship between the media and candidates, I did not know Obama was having trouble with Catholics.
The article is revealing for several reasons.
1) Obama is aggressive in reacting to negative press (the little he gets), which shows he will be formidable against the 527(s)--[which I hope there will be plenty of. I mean the ammunition is there]

Posted at 12:53am on Feb. 19, 2008 A way to move America forward and teach McCain a lesson--the RedState Compromise.
By dhannon_pdx
I have already written about the dangers of sitting out of this election, so I will not rehash this argument, but instead link my last entry, and if we want to argue further, we can do it there:
http://www.redstate.com/blogs/dhannon_pdx/2008/feb/15/an_appeal_to_some_...
This time, I seek compromise between the conservatives who oppose McCain on a range of issue, and moderates who support McCain as the best candidate to beat Obama or HRC.

Posted at 6:01am on Feb. 15, 2008 An Appeal To Some Conservatives Seeking a League of Shadows Approach to America...
By dhannon_pdx
Ducard: "The League of Shadows has been a check against human corruption for thousands of years. We sacked Rome, loaded trade ships with plague rats, burned London to the ground. Every time a civilization reaches the pinnacle of its decadence, we return to restore the balance."
Bruce Wayne: "Gotham is worth saving. Give me more time, there are good people here."
--Ducard educating young Master Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins on the effect the League of Shadows has had in human history, and Batman's (aka Bruce Wayne) response.

Posted at 3:06am on Feb. 11, 2008 Looking at the Bright Side... some good press for Mr. McCain
By dhannon_pdx
Just checking out RCP... and finding some positive press, from those you would not expect when John McCain is the topic of conversation.
George Will gives some support to McCain (with a disclaimer--which is how conservatives should support McCain--with a warning).
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4269447
THen there is John Fund's article which points out (as I have) that in addition to Obama/HRC not being able to win a Southern state, McCain puts blue and swing states in play.

Posted at 3:33pm on Feb. 6, 2008 Memo to McCain: Uniting All Wings of the GOP
By dhannon_pdx
Dear Senator McCain,
First let me congratulate you on your decisive wins in the Super Tuesday states yesterday. You showed that yo have a broad appeal among foreign policy and military conservatives, moderates and independents. Additionally, you have shown that you are at least competitive with conservative voters when running against a strong evangelical and a candidate with radio-conservative support.

Posted at 4:35am on Feb. 6, 2008 A little distraction... meet my first born--Aiden Patrick
By dhannon_pdx
As I stay up late, I realized I forgot to introduce my first child and newborn to the wonderful people of RedState. His name is Aiden Patrick (dob 1/27/2008) and he is perfect.
I'd post a picture if I knew how...
Anyways... greetings to REDSTATE from the newest GOP member...

Posted at 10:38pm on Feb. 3, 2008 Can GWB give the GOP one final victory before he departs?
By dhannon_pdx
This is involves the general election, not the primaries... so I hope it is ok that I wrote a separate diary for it...
Much has been discussed about how disgusted the conservatives are with their GOP options.
There are those who believe McCain is the worst thing to happen to conservatives (worst than Billary b/c at least they can use her to mount a counter-offensive), while others doubt the commitment Romney has to the conservative principles.

Posted at 1:03am on Jan. 31, 2008 When McCain wraps this up... GOPers must vote HRC in open states...
By dhannon_pdx
I am dead serious. We do not want Obama to win the nomination. He will kill all of our candidates. I mean GOP voters like Obama--what is the matter with them.
So, if you are in an open state, and our candidate is chosen... we must pool and organize together to put HRC in the general election, and then destroy her.

Posted at 12:59am on Jan. 31, 2008 McCain and Bob Dole and MSM and Ross Perot...
By dhannon_pdx
Why does McCain's general election campaign equate to Bob Dole's?
(Disclaimer: I was 17 during that election)
What I remember from that election and 1992 was that Ross Perot played the spoiler... and not the Nader spoiler of 2-5%, but a major spoiler of 5-15%.
Clinton was elected with a minority of the popular vote, and on a state-by-state electoral race, I recall GHWB losing several states to Perot voters as did Dole (even though Perot got less votes).

Posted at 12:16am on Jan. 23, 2008 2 Questions for those supporting or thinking about supporting Romney...
By dhannon_pdx
I acknowledge that I am no fan of Romney--this year. Anyone who has seen my posts before, know I do not trust his conservative message, because he has not proven to be a conservative. He may be a conservative leader in the future, but he needs to espouse those principles a little longer to prove he is a true blue conservative.
But that is my opinion. My question to Romney supporters (and I promise not to argue, but instead ask further questions) is this...

Posted at 10:25pm on Jan. 20, 2008 Fear Romney...
By dhannon_pdx
There are those who want Romney to pick up the fallen mantle that FredHeads said that Thompson was carrying in the 2008 presidential primaries--and that is the torch for the "true conservative." (whatever that is).
While Thompson may be a conservative (I believe his record illustrated a career as a moderate conservative, which is why he is such good friends with McCain), he at least espoused those views for over a decade if not longer. This is the reason why I did not have a problem with Fred. I had a problem with al of his followers, clogging RedState, but I never had a problem with Fred.

Posted at 2:43am on Jan. 6, 2008 HRC imploded ten minutes in, we cannot underestimate Obama
By dhannon_pdx
I was hoping HRC could keep the real HRC in control... like Bruce Banner taking deep breaths to suppress the HULK.
BUT, in the first ten minutes of the debate tonight, HRC lost her bid for the nomination, and Obama solidified his hold on the nomination.
Now, I too enjoyed the remarks of the GOP candidates regarding an Obama candidate (especially Fred's), but we should still be very afraid. If style can overcome substance (as Bubba showed it can) we are in trouble.

Posted at 12:20am on Jan. 4, 2008 We should root for Hillary...
By dhannon_pdx
Hillary loses the nomination... The good news: another Clinton administration finished before it started. The bad news: our chances for winning the nomination drop dramatically.
We want Hillary.
Whatever our differences are in the candidates we support, our turnout will increase dramatically for the Republican nominee if Hillary is the democratic candidate.
If Obama wins, we could lose the White House. We lose SCOTUS nominees (you know Stevens and Ginsburg will retire only when Democrat takes office), taxes will go up, our national defense will weaken, etc.

Posted at 12:58am on Dec. 31, 2007 Iowa Votes are in... Romney squeaks by Huck, Thompson Endorses McCain
By dhannon_pdx
With weeks of polling leading up to the Iowa caucuses, only the political junkies tuned into the results of Thursday nights Iowa Caucuses.
The night was not without drama. Hours passed before Romney squeaked out a victory over Huck despite a 20:1 spending ratio.
On the Democrat side, Edwards pulled a surprise victory over Obama and Clinton. While insiders tried to spin this in their favor, it is clear Hillary preferred losing to Edwards instead of Obama, which only raises the stakes for New Hampshire's primary.

Posted at 3:48am on Dec. 25, 2007 Our Platform Needs to Resonate with Moderates For Us to Win...
By dhannon_pdx
I posted this in the letter to Huckabee letter, but I thought it deserved its own entry...
During the 2004 race I read an interesting article from David Brooks who said that we are a polarized nation for two possible reasons. One we are polarized, because we have figures who have inflamed (either positively or negatively) both opposite ends of the political spectrums, and in the last 20-30 years those ends of the spectrums have crept towards the middle, swallowing the moderates. Another theory, is that Americans have been educated better than before and therefore we are more involved in the political discussion and more passionate about politics.
