"AMERICANS DO NOT RESPECT BELIEVERS OF CONVENIENCE...

Americans tire of those who jettison their beliefs even to gain the world."

I just finished watching my DVR Recording of the speech.

The subject line is a great discription of what Romney described as a person Americans do not respect.

Unfortunately for Mitt Romney that is exactly how he is perceived by many voters (myself included).

The problem with Mitt's candidacy is not his Mormonism. Mitt's problem is that his ambition shines brighter than his message, beliefs, and plan to lead this party and country.

I believe that he believes is God and is a man of faith.

However, I also believe he is a politician who will say what it takes to win. As Huckabee said, "I would prefer or respect an athiest," (even though I probably wouldn't vote for him or her) "over a person who proclaims to be a Christian who does not lead the life of one." I am not saying Romney does not lead a Christian life or a life of faith. I am saying that he did sacrifice his beliefs and views for political ambition in a Senate and a Gubenitorial Election.

I believe people who are pro-choice can convert to a pro-life philosophy because they become confronted with a child, a sonogram, or an experience that illustrates the reality of a living beigh inside the womb. I cannot see how a person can convert from a pro-life philosophy to one that is pro-choice. That is exactly what he did when ran against Whiskey Ted and then for Governor.

I actually respect Rudy's candidacy more, b/c while I disagree with his views and philosophy on certain moral issues, I really respect the guts he has shown running for our nomination (with a hostile christian base) without flip-flopping on those beliefs.

Was Mr. Romney's speech well-written? I thought it was okay. Was it well delivered? Absolutely. Did it change anything about my views of Mitt. Unfortunately no. I am not rejecting Romney for his faith, nor do I (a Catholic) support Huckabee for his faith.

I simply reject Romney because he has tweaked his beliefs for political convenience in profound ways. If he is willing to do that to win in a northeastern state, what else is he willing to do if he has a Democratic Congress? A majority of people opposed to the war on terror? What will he do with any other tough issue that challenges his chance at succeeding in his position of power?

I doubt his conviction, I question the bounds of his amibtion, and I worry for the future of our country and our party with that type of person leading both.

I support Huck, then McCain, then Rudy, and then Fred. I fear a Romney nomination--and his faith has nothing to do with it.

what can I say, I am passionate.

thanks

which is precisely what "dhannon_pdx" did to at least five different threads, trying to hawk his diary.

The Unofficial RedState FAQ
“You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say. ” - Martin Luther

He was never pro-life before and then became pro-choice. He was pro-life personally but politically he has only ever had two positions, pro-choice and now pro-life.

If that is the basis of your not trusting him then maybe you should give him a second look through unbiased and accurate sources.

I don't know how true these accounts are... but I simply googled what you refuted and came up with those three immediately.

I believe he was pro-life running for office as a Republican in a liberal state with the White House in mind. Then, with that same ambition, a year before he declared switched back.

It makes sense, I just disagree with it.

I was responding to the other Romney posts and rather than simply articulate the same perspective five times...

I didn' hawk it at non-Romney cites.

I'm still learning the blog rules...

You reject Romney out of hand because of "flip-flop"s, and then rather than demonstrate said "flip-flops" you point out the one issue (abortion) where Romney has steadily moved in one direction (from pro-choice to pro-life) over a 13-year public career.

FWIW, I'm not seeing a lot of "flopping" there.

Question: Why is someone who steadily, unceasingly, moves in the direction you want over time a bad thing?

I mean, when supreme court justices go the opposite direction - usually over much smaller periods of time, journalists and liberals gush they they have "grown in office". How is Romney's "growth", in the direction that supports your position, any different?

Or are there some issues whereby a candidate must be pure since birth in order to be acceptable?
