Posted at 9:15am on Nov. 13, 2006 NO to Boehner's promotion and Blunt's return
By dinaui
According to Robert Novak, the Republicans will hold a leadership vote on Friday, and they are planning to vote one or both of Boehner and Blunt to the leadership. This is profoundly stupid. Boehner was brought in on a reform platform, which he failed to follow up on, while Blunt was rejected because he wasn't reformist enough. When the House Republicans need, very badly, to establish that they've learned the lessons of this election, such a result would demonstrate that they've learned precisely nothing.
Moreover, a quirk of the language hides something that's going on here. The minority equivalent of the Majority Leader is not the Minority Leader, but the Minority Whip --- in other words, Boehner isn't seeking the minority equivalent of his old post, but a promotion. I'm sorry, but even if you allow that Boehner wasn't at fault for this election's bloodbath, he certainly doesn't deserve a promotion for it.

I don't have time to write much on this now, but I await the attempts by the Democrats to link the Equal Time doctrine for the FCC, and the unbalanced dropping of conservative videos from YouTube.
