Mr. Rangel, the powerful Democrat who is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, uses his fourth apartment, six floors below, as a campaign office, despite state and city regulations that require rent-stabilized apartments to be used as a primary residence.
As a NYC resident what I would give to have 4 NYC apartments at only 1,000 a month.

Posted at 8:35pm on Jul. 9, 2008 The Hateful Liberals Now Going After Laura Bush
By dld1717
There’s no question that Laura Bush provided the inspiration for protagonist in Curtis Sittenfeld’s upcoming novel, “American Wife.” And although the tale Sittenfeld concocts is almost pure fiction, there’s enough of the first lady in it to already have created a sensation in Washington, D.C.
Radaronline.com called “American Wife” “a thinly veiled novel based on Laura Bush's life that is sure to send the White House into a fury.” The book is also being released on the date of the Republican Nat'l Convention.

he full dialogue
Oh, the full dialogue from the blogpost below according to WaPo's Paul Kane (and other reporters in the gallery) who heard the full shouting match between Sen. Robert C. Byrd and Sen. Jim Bunning, shouting from their seats across that aisle at each other:
Bunning: "Regular order!"
Byrd: "Who said that?"
Bunning: "I did."
Byrd: "Who are you?"
Bunning: "I'm a senator."

Well some sad news the Republican nominee to replace Vitto Fossella's Open House Seat has passed away. Republicans will now obviously have to appoint a new Republican. Frank Powers, a retired Wall Street executive who was designated to run for Congress in November by the Staten Island Republican Party died in his sleep Sunday. He was 67.

Posted at 3:09pm on Jun. 21, 2008 Colorado Situation
By dld1717
I am always interested to learn at what is happening in state politics by posters here and the state of Colorado intrigues me. I understand Colorado has elected many Democrat Senators and Governors but it always seemed to be the most Republican in presidential elections out of the NV, NM, and AZ levels. Yet, it seems to have moved away from us. Please describe why? Has new demographics of state changed it that much (Bush did win it by 100,000 votes 4 years ago) and did former Governor Owens hurt the party that much? I had always assumed he was popular but what happened there?

Posted at 10:33pm on Jun. 4, 2008 Obama Cornered Lieberman on Senate Floor Today (Roll Call)
By dld1717
Roll Call reports that during a Senate vote today, Sen. Barack Obama "dragged" Sen. Joe Lieberman "by the hand to a far corner of the Senate chamber and engaged in what appeared to reporters in the gallery as an intense, three-minute conversation."
"While it was unclear what the two were discussing, the body language suggested that Obama was trying to convince Lieberman of something and his stance appeared slightly intimidating."

OH Pryce Open Seat (R)
Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D) holds a 10-point lead over Republican state senator Steve Stivers in the race to succeed retiring Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio), according to her campaign’s internal polling.
The poll shows Kilroy leading Stivers, 47 percent to 37 percent. Kilroy is benefiting from fairly high name identification (78 percent), largely from her closely contested campaign against Pryce last election cycle. She had a net favorability rating of 10 percent — 44 percent of respondents held a favorably opinion of her, while 34 percent viewed her unfavorably.
