By Dougie Fresh
I am by no means an expert on Health Care, but I know enouch from the consumer side to know it is broken. So, I have compiled my first thoughts on the subject, and submitted them to this diary entry. It is a work in progress, and I am sure some things are poorly considered, but good ideas are not formed and bad ideas are not destroyed in a vacuum. So, here it is:
I love the free market. In general, the free-er something is, the better it is, but for some things it does not work completely.

Posted at 6:25pm on Jul. 25, 2007 I'm off the Thompson bandwagon
By Dougie Fresh
I editted the opening paragraph of this post because it was too provocative. However, I am switching my support from Fred to Rudy. I have found that too much of Fred's appeal is hype, and he seems unwilling to enter the fray. He reminds me of an unsure Freshman in gym class full of seniors during wrestling week.
I still support him entering the race, and would like to actually see him take a stand on something he believes in BEFORE his handlers drill into him what he "believes".

Posted at 6:03pm on Nov. 16, 2006 What's wrong with the Democrats
By Dougie Fresh
The problems with the Democratic Party are the same problems faced by any major organization headed by crazed hotheads.
The objects of hatred (and they number many) become an obsession which overtakes in importance long term political goals. Instead of saying "lets propose X in order to accomplish Y" it is more likely for one to hear "Lets do X do we can get Y". The goal is no longer to win, but to make someone else lose. Case in point, the war in Iraq. No matter how positive or negative the outcome may be, Democrats are doing their best to sabotage it to make sure it fails. A success in Iraq is a benefit to our country, as well as the Iraqi people and the world. Yet, this cannot stand because it might make George Bush or Rumsfeld or any of the other evil right winged demons look good. It's perfectly fine for people to suffer as long as their side gets more votes in November.

Posted at 2:47pm on Nov. 15, 2006 A strategy for a new and larger Republican majority
By Dougie Fresh
It has been my view that pundits and the media read too much into the tea leaves of an election. The Republicans did lose majorities in both houses of Congress and now find themselves down 24-9 in the recently elected class of Senators, but the election was still close. As has been the case of the past several years, neither party is popular enough nationally to claim any form of mandate.
A cursory reading of web-logs demonstrates a sizable amount of the electorate votes against something, rather than for anything in particular. Social conservatives vote against the specter of abortion, liberals vote against the boogeyman of restricting a "woman's right to choose" (of course only when the choice is to have an abortion), environmentalists vote against modern technology, atheists vote against Christians, Christians vote against atheists, Michigan grads vote against Ohio State grads, Buckeyes vote against Wolverines, and so on. Few people want to be subject to the rule of another who does not share their values. This is a natural part of being human.
