Posted at 10:32am on Jul. 10, 2008 Poll Shows Easy Path to Victory for McCain

By Ehud

This Rasmussen poll is good news for McCain if he is smart enough to use it.

Essentially, the American people have unrealistic perceptions of the candidates (thanks MSM).

The numbers that stand out:

Question McCain/Obama
Better leader 43/39
Shares values 40/45
Govt spending will go down 18/18

Who do you Trust More

Energy 44/44
Ethics 42/44
Balance Budget 36/45
Taxes 43/43
Healthcare 38/48
Abortion 36/38

Other questions

In 6 months Iraq will be better 38

Posted at 12:32pm on Jul. 8, 2008 McCain Campaign Themes

By Ehud

The McCain campaign is obviously having a problem coming up with a good message/agenda. I am also frustrated by some of the arguments that McCain and his supporters are NOT making on the trail and on all the TV and radio shows.

Obviously, McCain and his top advisers are constantly working on the campaign and have limited time and creativity to draw upon coming up with messaging and finding the best arguments to make on a range of policy issues. Part of the power of the internet is the 'wisdom of crowds', which I thought we might be able to utilize to help McCain.

Posted at 8:54am on May 4, 2007 Guiliani: I hate abortion but think women should choose? Huh?

By Ehud

In the debate last night, Guiliani said he hates abortion but thinks the decision should be left up to woman. That doesn't really make sense.

If you think the fetus is human, then the mother's choice is irrelevant, just as it would be if she wanted to kill her 10 year-old. But if it's not human, then why would you hate it? In that case, abortion is no different than removing a tumor or killing a chicken.

Posted at 9:06pm on Apr. 23, 2007 Informative Report on Iraq

By Ehud

I read this informative and detailed article at the Weekly Standard:

Can Petraeus Pull It Off?
A report on the progress of our arms in Baghdad, Baqubah, Ramadi, and Falluja.

It includes a detailed account of how we won a great victory in Ramadi and how the Sunnis are cooperating with us and fighting Al-Qaeda. The Iraqi Special Forces are apparently great, and the police are improving but still corrupt.

And I thought this quote was key:

U.S. commanders report that, whatever the case before the war, Iraq has now become the central front of al Qaeda operations, drawing jihadists from all over the world. It is also a central front in Iran's offensive to become the dominant player in the region. American generals say they have been "shocked" to discover the level of Iranian influence in Iraq. The Iranians are supporting not only the Mahdi Army, Badr Brigades, and other Shiite militias, but also, the generals believe, al Qaeda--the very group killing Shiites en masse.
