In an interview with www.MainstreamLibertarian.com, New Hampshire State Rep. DJ Bettencourt just confirmed his endorsement of Mitt Romney for President. He had allowed his name to be placed on a List of NH Romney supporters two weeks ago. Now Bettencourt has fully backed up his previous name-listing with a full-fledged endorsement.
Rep. Bettencourt serves as Chairman of the New Hampshire Conservative Alliance, a group that includes strong Anti-Tax and libertarian-leaning Republicans. Bettencourt was strongly supported by the Republican Liberty Caucus, a libertarian group, in his election in 2006 to the Legislature.

In a shocker, according to the Texas GOP website, Cynthia Dunbar filed for the already crowded primary for the Tom DeLay seat for Congress. It is South Houston/Pasadena/Sugarland. This seat is currently held by Democrat Nick Lampson, and is heavily Republican territory. 10 other candidates have filed including Shelly Sekula-Gibbs and State Rep. John Talton.
Dunbar is a staunch limited government Conservative. She recently won a seat on the Texas Board of Education.

National Review has a link today to an AP story with a wonderfully heartwarming Christmas tale. The NY Sun and other media have picked up on the story of Iraqi War Veteran Captain Scott Southworth, adopting a young orphan boy from Baghdad. It's a very extensive 4-page story. But in the AP piece or in no other media does it mention that Capt. Southworth is indeed a Republican.

Posted at 11:21am on Dec. 22, 2007 Ron Paul does poorly in Big States
By ericd
Quinnipiac just released a poll for Florida showing Ron Paul at a measly 2%, a far cry from his national media persona as a "rising star."
And two days ago, he was stalled at just 3% in a major California poll.
What's up with Ron Paul and big states? Paul does well in small states like Iowa and New Hampshire. And he's polling respectively in other states like Wyoming and Alaska at 7 to 9%.

Posted at 8:14am on Dec. 21, 2007 Libertarian files against Ron Paul for Congress in Texas
By ericd
And now from the truly bizarre category: Libertarian Party member Eugene Flynn has filed his papers with the Libertarian Party of Texas to run for Congress in Texas CD 14 against Ron Paul.
(Story first reported at ThirdPartyWatch.com, now up at MainstreamLibertarian.com)
Flynn is known to be an eccentric. He says in his statement to LPT Director Wes Benedict that he "agrees with Ron Paul on 80% of the issues," but can't stand his open borders position on Immigration. Very odd, cause most view Paul as having a decidedly closed borders approach inconsistent with his South Texas heavily Hispanic District.

Posted at 7:40pm on Dec. 15, 2007 Time for all Fiscal Cons to rally behind Romney to ward off Huck?

I've been a diehard Rudy Giuliani fan since last year. But this Huckabee threat is starting to scare me. He's everything we libertarian Republicans despise: Fiscally liberal yet Socially conservative.
Huck? That's a double-whammy Yuck. I cannot imagine the GOP nominating a worse candidate than High Tax, Bible-thumping, Pro-Life extremist, Gay intolerant Mike Huckabee.
