Let's face it, Iraq is a lost cause.

So far as the left wing media is concerned at any rate.
Today's headline in the U.K.'s Independent shouts;
"The Retreat from Basra"
"It is an admission of defeat. Iraq is turning into one of the world's bloodiest battlefields in which nobody is safe. Blind to this reality, Tony Blair said yesterday that Britain could safely cut its forces in Iraq because the apparatus of the Iraqi government is growing stronger."

Nevermind that the murder rate in Basra dropped from something like 139 per month last July to around 29 per month this past December and that most of the bloodshed and bombings happen in the Sunni triangle and that the Iraqi police and army units are taking over responsibility for security in the region.
Do I find it surprising that the media is reporting this proposed troop reduction by the British as a sign of defeat?
I'm sorry to say I do not.
This is more of the same defeatist rhetoric that we who support the efforts in Iraq and elsewhere have come to expect from the main stream media both here and in the U.S.
As I said in a post yesterday, there is simply no way that the media will ever report events in Iraq or anywhere else in anything other than defeatist terms.
When the day comes when President Bush announces that the current change of strategy has accomplished it's mission by bringing stability and security to Baghdad and the surrounging region which I believe it will, and when troop levels can begin to be reduced because the Iraqi Police and Army are standing up and able to cope with security needs, American Media outlets will also report U.S. troop reductions as a sign of defeat of American Forces in Iraq.
The War in Iraq can not have any other outcome in the eyes of the Main Stream Media other than that of defeat for the MNF.
That's the story they've been selling since almost day one and they'll stick with that story no matter what the truth may turn out to be.

Doom,Gloom and Defeat.
Even if we win, We lose.
It makes me sick.

That's why I volunteered for another year in Iraq.

There's nothing quite so exhilerating as being shot at... and missed. Winston Churchill

While the left makes me sick with all of their constant negativity and defeatism,Men and women like you and all those serving in our military make me proud to be an American.
Always.
