H/t Allahpundit over at Hot Air on this one. Dude. Just...dude.

My friends, the Dems have well and truly jumped the shark. Allah and the Fox commentators seem to think she was reaching for the word "nationalize" and somehow ended up at "socialize".

Read on for my take on this Freudian slip...

Maxine Waters is known for her asinine views on, well, just about everything. However, this is one of the first times in my memory that a sitting representative actually openly threatens a private industry with "socializing"/"nationalizing". Does this barking-mad moonbat really think that the government can somehow do things more efficiently, once they've seized control of one of our most important industries? Or is she simply throwing some red meat to her loony constituents back home? Methinks that given her track record (# 35) of hard-left legislating, the truth lies somewhere in between Marx and Mugabe, next door to Chavez.

We conservatives have long believed most of the Dems to be closet socialists in disguise, but they are beginning to get bolder. Between Hillary Clinton's constant harping on nationalizing health care, and her race to protectionist policies with Barack Obama, it seems our gilded (gelded?) class has entered a new age of economic idiocy.

We must recover our conservative principles, our spines and our balls if we are to have any chance of remaining the world's preeminent economic and cultural giant. As Bill Whittle said in his incredible birthday love note to America back in 2004, the success of America "...ain't the ingredients. It's the recipe." Mix equal parts Capitalism, Freedom and Yankee Ingenuity and get the heck out of the way. As the kids say, read the whole thing.

Socialism has failed everywhere it's been tried. The fools on the Left keep pushing it, assuming that a properly magnanimous leader caste can implement Utopia here on Earth. However, they refuse to see the fundamental truth of humanity:

"No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short." -- Thomas Hobbes, Leviathan

Hobbes was on to something. He understood that the base desire of man is to conquer, rule and grasp for personal gain. Maxine Waters is a fool of the highest order to assume that nationalizing the oil industry is not the first step on a slippery descent into the hell that has become every other Marxist experiment in human subjugation.

May God protect us all if these fools manage to consolidate their power over our Congress, our Executive branch and our judiciary.

Update: Video embedded above the fold for your viewing pleasure.

After Maxine Waters told him that the US government was going to take over his oil company he said

We;ve seen this movie before. It's called Venezuela and Hugo Chavez.

If the Ds win they will not settle for just raising taxes. They really want the marxist model of state ownership and central planning.

the old red and white classic, "Mexico and Lazaro Cardens", because he's in negotiations with Calderon to help the decrepit PEMEX get oil out of the Golfo de Mexico. Seems that socialism and nationalization don't go "well" with innovation and exploration. Classic Film Noir.

By the way i don't understand why the libs are complaining about the large salaries. Any non liberal hot head knows that if the salaries continue to rise the door for competition continues to open.

Maybe they just want to be the ones to save us from the somehow evil oil companies. Oh wait last time checked they were doing me a favor and selling me somehting i have a hard time living without. GAS.

and other such groups that own large stakes in Big Oil. You'd think Waters would at least try to remember the vested interests of her biggest supporters.

I think she forgot for a second what room she was in.
Pssst... Maxine... when it's not just you and other democrats, you don't use the "S" word/.
.

After being at a loss for words and saying socializing when she meant nationalizing, then she said that she is about basically the US government taking over the oil company and running it.

Basically, "Nationalizing" and "Socializing" is the same thing... it's just that the Dems assume the general American public is too stupid to know that.

and McKinney tried to run again, McKinney might be the more conservative of the two. I'm pretty sure McKinney isn't against the freedom to make money. The voters might go with Waters, actually.

Meanwhile, Hank Johnson, who currently holds that seat, is distinguishing himself by simply doing no harm.

used to be the snooty upper middle class, Yankee corporate suburb of ATL. If you didn't go to Lakeside High, you might as well go ahead and publicly commit social suicide. Briarcliff Road was one of THE addresses for the corporate types, old ATL preferred North Druid Hills and its surrounds. Not quite in the same league as West Paces Ferry Rd. in Buckhead in those days but tres snobby. I still have nightmares about an ex-wife from just off Briarcliff Road.

From South Buford Highway area...back when it was still redneck. We almost got busted for rolling Lakeside during Christmas vacation in'76...10 guys, 300 rolls of toilet paper. It was a well-plaaned op, and we would have gotten away with it "scot" free, but we had 20 rolls left when time was up and just HAD to use them. One driver got caught, and the rest of us spent the night creeping through yards and ditches all the way back to Clairmont and Buford. My dad found out about it because my friend got busted. He made me help pay the fine since my friend didn't rat us out to the cops. Back in the days when Dekalb cops were the best anywhere.

At least back when I was there in the early '70s, it was a phenonomally beautiful area; rolling hills, big trees, big, old houses in parts and big, new houses in other parts. It was the American Dream. My ex-wife's family lived on Raintree Dr. off Briarcliff Rd. Everybody was middle/upper management in all the Yankee corporation that had come to ATL in the late- '50s, early '60s. It was a charmed life.

Corporate Square? I learned to drive there. Toco Hills? Windfaire?(heh heh). I lived in a house on the corner of Shepherd's lane and Lavista about 20 years ago. It's a shortcut from Clifton road to Cheshirs Bridge. We used to sit on the porch on Fridays drinking beer and watching the Emeroids wreck their cars trying to turn left on Lavista. It got so bad a Dekalb cop would park in out driveway on Fridays. Every Emeroid who came that way had to pass by him. Funny how that focused their minds at the stop sign.

As the years passed and the sectional crisis deepened, Petigru found himself increasingly in the minority. The election of Abraham Lincoln in early November 1860 was the last straw for those worried about Northern efforts to end slavery. On Dec. 20, South Carolina seceded from the Union.

Petigru was disconsolate. He said that he had seen the “last happy day of his life.” He saw in the secession vote “an awful foreboding of what is to come when the passions of the mob are let loose.” His beloved South Carolina, he sighed, was “too small to be an (independent) republic and too large to be an insane asylum.”

open in shock and I am pretty accustomed to the Democrats "secret" socialist agenda.....but to hear it out loud...well...there really are no words to describe it....someone has to find and post the video so all can see it....heck what with the congressman who is on video saying the D's lied about ending the war I see an excellent video for an industrious 527.

Knowing their patronizing and racist nature I am sure that the other Democrats laugh behind her back all the time.

After all, they're looking like they're nominating Obama, whose delegate wins are coming largely as the result of racism.

I love how her fellow Democrats snicker and laugh at her toward the end of that embarrassment. Heck, Waters seemed to even be laughing at herself. What a waste of air she is.

As I price our energy future settlements on Fridays, thanks for an end-of-the-week laugh!

...because she's a politician.

Maxine Waters is a member of the House Progressive Caucus.

What some folks may NOT know, is that for years, the House Progressive Caucus was married to an organization called "Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)," an actual socialist organization that advocates worker control of corporations.

http://www.dsausa.org/dsa.html

Until 1999, DSA actually hosted the website of the House Progressive Caucus. Following a subsequent expose of the link between the two entities, the Progressive Caucus established its own website under the auspices of Congress. But DSA and the Progressive Caucus remain intimately linked. All 58 Progressive Caucus members, including Maxine Waters, also belong to DSA.

DSA had published a manifesto, "The Progressive Challenge," identifying their key goals. The House Progressive Caucus simply picked it up and released it as their own, without revealing to the public where it came from. They were clearly trying to cover their socialist tracks, and were happy to let the DSA ghost-write their material.

http://tinyurl.com/566wy6

These links and your linkage underscore what these politicians are.

The propaganda of the left has had such a head start, it's going to take a whole lot of grassroots effort and 527 money to get out the truth.

There's no way that the video wouldn't be toxic for democrats in the general.

I'm doing a post on my own blog (independentthinking.tk) on the subject of Democrats' recent showing of their socialist hand; and I'm going to use these -- along with a hattip to the OP.

Thanks for the great info... as always, RedState remains a great place to get informed.

.

Here are two documents, preserved from an old archive of the DSA website.

This one is the DSA "Progressive Agenda," written by DSA:

http://tinyurl.com/4abxn8

And THIS one is the House Progressive Caucus "Progressive Promise," supposedly authored by the House Progressives:

Notice any similarities?

More to the point, notice any differences at all?

If this is not a call to arms for all conservatives (and other free-market allies), then NOTHING is.

The Dems intend to coopt this whole country. Fight them. Hard and dirty.

Unfair. Unbalanced. Unmedicated. -- IMAO

What we are lacking these days, is conservatives who can give an eloquent, passionate, philosophical defense of economic freedom.

The old ones are gone: Reagan is dead, Buckley is dead, Friedman is dead, Ayn Rand is dead. And it shows. Without them speaking up, we're gradually losing the debate. Again.

Who today can fill their shoes?

Who are the new, young, heirs to their legacy? Dennis Hastert? Tom DeLay? Mitt Romney? Who?

after they died the ghost of Nelson Rockefeller took over the party.

So we're left with guys like Richard Viguerie being the closest contact we have to the old days, and nobody who shows the slightest interest in actually getting anything done in Washington.

I don't know exactly where you sit on the spectrum, sinz52, but I know where I am. Conservatism is not dead. Rank and file adherents are all across America.

You are suggesting (I suppose?) that just because the national party is full of and run by liars, liberals, wusses, moderates, squishes, and other lower life forms that we not engage?

I'm in. That's what I do at RedState, that's what I do as a Republican precinct chair, and that's what I do at those city council meetings where they contemplate the latest in burdensome regulations and meddling in the free market.

And whether you acknowledge it or not, we DO have some of us in Washington. Hensarling, Flake, Pence, Coburn, Sam Johnson, DeMint, and more.

Like Rummy said, we go to war with the army we got. I'm in.

my feelings about this....display...of stupidity(?), naivetee(?), honesty(?). Yeah, honesty, that's the ticket!! It's amazing, a liberal that was actually honest. Stupid of her to do it in public though! I'm sure she just locked up her re-election! Why she's guaranteed to be in Congress longer than Robert Byrd!!!

veritas vos liberabit

Just posted a follow up to this outright display of shameful honesty. It expands a little bit on the theme of Waters' connections to socialism. It's not perfect, and I'd certainly welcome any and all thoughts. It's always great to learn new things and broaden my mental horizons.

Here's the link.

Rather more what I expect her to say.

What was jaw dropping was that this racist anti-semite was re-elected to Congress. Now that she's been re-elected, I find my threshold for jaw dropping is much worse than it use to be.

But hey, it's a 'Change' election, and we conservative need to STFU and just pull the lever for the moderates who won't be able to fight this kind of crap because they want to move past the partisanship that is dividing the country. On the bright side, Hillary might just manage to win the backroom knife fight, and then she'll be more worried about knifing the rest of her competitors in the Dem party than overtly damaging the country.

[cue Monty Python music: "Always Look on the Bright side of Life"]

looks like she went Hollywood (Oscar de la Renta Glasses, Botox or lift, etc.). But her mind is still the same... although her attack dog pitch is paused by senior moments.

It's comforting in a weird sort of way... I mean, had she said something sensible, it would obviously be the Seventh Sign.

the problem isn't so much her... it's the number of voters (they're there, and they're noisy) who agree with her.
.

the windfall profits tax. He's not as bad as her, but why isn't he being skewered on the site today?

From yesterday:

I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere–and I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax–that’s not what bothers me–but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people, that or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.

Who was the woman and man in the shot next to Maxine? They were loosing it (laughing and trying to cover) as Maxine went off the deep end.

For those of you not from LA, Maxine is a cottage industry for Black politicians in South LA. Her kids all make big $$$ selling places on Maxine campaign mailers every election cycle, while her husband sells Cadillacs. The Maxine machine is one of the most powerful in LA County.

SteveLA,

I believe they are Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Betty Sutton (D-OH). Their leftward placement in the lineup would indicate that is them (however, I'm not brushed up on parliamentary procedure and seating). Ironically, based on this video, it would appear that Mad Maxine is far to the Left of them (I couldn't resist). I cannot tell if they are laughing at her struggle to get the phrasing right, or if they are nervously giggling at the thought of a member of the antitrust task force of the House Judiciary Committee spouting off about nationalizing the oil industry. My take is that they recognize it as a stupid threat, albeit just another "open mouth, insert foot" moment for Waters.

I could not believe what I heard from Maxine Waters. It was shocking to see a member of the United States Congress suggest the 'taking over' of the oil industry. What's more I am more shocked that the entire country, including the media and the politicians in DC have not responded in a very loud voice against such undemocratic suggestions - - right there in the Capitol of the United States.

Unbelievable - - she is obviously uneducated about what it means to live in a Democracy and it seems that more and more of people like her are gaining a voice.

Here's a Grand Bargain that's worth considering:

I will allow Maxine Waters to take over ExxonMobil, in exchange for us conservatives at RedState taking over the Federal Government.

Freedom of Religion NOT Freedom from Religion

How is this "jaw-dropping?" I believe this is where a majority (or at least a plurality) of Americans are. If a majority is not there yet, they will be very soon. They also similarly do not like the connotations of their own true positions.

Unless and until people actually see and feel for themselves the long-term effects of their preferred policies, there is no persuading or changing the minds of the majority.
