Expanding on Maxine Waters' gaffe

In the comments of my last post, commenter "Sinz52" provided some interesting information on Waters' current ties to the Democratic Socialists of America. This is both enlightening and frightening information. Their agenda is clearly revolutionary, as much of their manifesto reads as standard Marxist boilerplate, interspersed with a more radical tone evocative of Revolutionary France in the 18th century. Consider this quote from Maximilien Robespierre:

Any institution which does not suppose the people good, and the magistrate corruptible, is evil."

Contrast that statement with this quote, straight from the DSA manifesto:

Democratic socialists are committed to the development of social movements dedicated to ending any and all forms of noneconomic domination."

Read on, there's much more...

Revolutionary Marxist ideology mandates the overthrow of the controlling class, with the masses trusted to govern the institutions of a society - cultural, economic and political. Maxine Waters' comrades in the DSA are adherents to the political philosophy that brought us Leninism, Nazism, Fascism, the Khmer Rouge, Maoism, and so on and so forth.

The DSA's agenda derives from these hyper-populist roots, and is antithetical to everything that has made America such a powerful engine for good in this world. Only in America and other constitutional republics that have adopted the model and still adhere to it, do we find such blinding, unbelievable freedom. It is this model that allows the oil execs to make "obscene" salaries, and me to make not quite as much. Likewise, I do not blame the happenstances on my life on some mythical upper-class that is so bent on the destruction of the "little guy". I simply push to be better and do better, and achieve the same success myself. Otherwise, why strive at all?

This is the United States of America. We make room for various and sundry lifestyles, religions and cultural quirks. And you know what? We are vastly richer, and yes, superior as a nation because of our intricate national tapestry. What I will not stand for is the co-opting of a poisonous political ideal into that fabric. Hyper-liberalism/socialism is a destructive ideology that seeks to tear down America because its adherents cannot stand the fundamental unfairness of life. They feel a burning need to make everyone equal in outcome, except themselves. They, being the enlightened leaders, are of course exempt from the whole equality thing.

The whole concept of equality is patent BS, because anyone with half a functioning brain recognizes that LIFE IS NOT FAIR. I rather prefer the Michelle Malkin philosophy - when times are tough, Suck. It. Up. America was founded by hard, fair, compassionate men who saw their great experiment in constitutional governance as the best answer to governing a nation filled with congenitally greedy, self-serving people. The Founding Fathers further recognized that capitalism is the best economic answer to the same base human motivations, as the system itself thrives on people constantly doing better in order to improve themselves. Self-interest is the most powerful motivator in the human pysche, and the simple brilliance of our nation is that it exploits the most base human desires and elevates them to a higher form of governance and social order. What we have is the purest form of equality of opportunity, not results.

Maxine Waters and her Socialist pals are likewise not immune to the desire to promote their own self-interest. The evil of their agenda is that they dress it up as some higher calling to improve the station of others. Waters and all of the other self-serving liberals do not want to improve your life. They want to improve theirs at the expense of yours. "Give me my fair share, whether I've earned it or not," is their motto.

Conservatism is the last true bastion of economic freedom, cultural beauty and classical liberalism left in the world. Winston Churchill said it more eloquently than I could ever have hoped to:

We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!"

Friends, we must defend our island. Franklin had it right; we must hang together, or the socialists most assuredly (and proverbially, I think...) will hang us separately.

You have described the situation in the clearest of terms. If we don't fight tooth and nail to not only not lose ground but to regain every inch lost we shall surely hang!

Is there any doubt as to why the Left wants to impose gun control?

They're following in the footsteps of their Communist/Socialist Fathers.

Independence is Freedom. Dependence is Slavery.

Ill agree with your assertion that democrats are commies in disguise, I hold that view myself, but then what?
The GOP in congress became big government guys over the years.
They lost the senate and the house, and they may now lose the presidency. I would associate the losses to the fact that Republicans started acting like Democrats (big government spenders), and point in fact, the GOP is running what many consider to be a more stomachable Democrat in Johnny Mac.

I think we all should be worried about America tilting left. But to combat such a trend we need a party that offers a viable, clear, and stark alternative. The GOP, at least to me, seems to have lost its way a little, and because of that, the Democrats have been able to gain power, because why vote for a Democrat light when you can vote for a Democrat.

I was watching Kudlow and co. and he was talking about a new contract for america. I think its a shame that Johnny Mac has not jumped all over this. Maybe he will get some new political operatives.

and to the public it is not that the Republicans were just as bad on spending as the Democrats, it is that they were WORSE.

If the last democrats people can remember who held power was the Clinton administration, it has to be admitted that that administration was very conservative on fiscal issues (having a republican congress helped because of the political duel).

But once that same Republican congress got a president who would not veto anything they did, they went absolutely crazy.

And it is not just spending, Republicans have also endorsed many little annoying intrusions into our privates lives and some big and unnecessary regulations on business.

Maybe what people are hoping for is divided government again. If that is the calculation, then people are not really tired of partisan rancor. in fact they would want more of it, so nothing gets done.

It's pretty hard to stand up in front of a crowd and tell them that they're better off standing on thier own two feet, taking thier own risks, and reaping thier own successes, when the guy on the next soap box down the road is telling them that all the worlds problems will be solved and they can have free cookies and ice cream if they just sell thier souls to the government. So you come up with idiocy like "compassionate conservatism" in order to take the edge off.

Next thing you know, you're handing out free cookies and ice cream yourself, and the opposition is STILL making points, by blaming you for letting the ice cream melt.

Democracy and socialism are fundamentally incompatible; you can't have a democratic government that has the power to decide that one person or group of people is "more deserving" of the property and labor of another person or group.

How many times does history have to prove this basic truth before these idiots finally get it?

you can have a democracy with socialism, you just cannot have any meaningful minority rights. With socialist democracy the party in power imposes their will, and doesn't care about things like property rights.

If the party in power has the authority to decide that troublemakers aren't "deserving" of the fruits of thier own labor, how long does democracy last? Freedom to vote doesn't mean much when all of the dissenters have been starved out.

I'd argue that you can have an attempt at democratic socialism, in that socialism is intended to be a political system whereby the leaders are selected based on the whims of the masses.

Pure democracy is inherently unstable, due to the fickle nature of people, so socialism is an attempt at top-down redistribution of resources, while abiding by the will of the people (in socialism's purest form). However, socialism of any kind is flawed, since (as a political theory) it rejects the fundamental dark side of every human to rule and be the alpha, and assumes the best of human nature in all situations. Due to this blinkered viewpoint, every would-be socialist Utopia devolves quite rapidly into a dog-eat-dog horrorshow. I'd even argue that socialism acts as a catalyst for human evil, since there is no ultimate power other than mob rule (which itself generally unleashes the inner wolf in people).

However, socialism of any kind is flawed, since (as a political theory) it rejects the fundamental dark side of every human to rule and be the alpha, and assumes the best of human nature in all situations

Gotta disagree on that one.

If socialism assumed the best of human nature, there would be voluntary socialist communities; there aren't. Socialists beleive that the only way to ensure an equitable distribution of resources is by using the government to enforce altruism. Socialism assumes that the people are either too stupid to take care of themselves or too greedy to help the less fortunate.

I still say that no government based on the notion that it's citizens are incapable of providing for themselves is going to let those citizens make important decisions. Enforced altruism is slavery.

that simply calling your nation the "Democratic Socialist Republic of..." does not make it anything like that.

does anyone really believe the Maxine Waters understands any of it? I can almost see her being conned by some Marxist to support a view like this without having a clue as to what it means to all Americans and what our Founding Fathers had envisioned.

My point is that she has to be the most stupid and ignorant person I have ever heard utter a phrase. And I am really trying to be nice here.

One more thought, is it possible that 'True Conservatives' could evolve a third Party while the GOP stock is so low as to make any inroads in turning around the Leftist Agenda? I mean, I vividly remember several Democrats in Texas during the reign of 'REAGAN" who changed Party to become Republicans so they could become electable. I know specifically of a DA in Williamson Cty and I am not sure but Rep. John Carter (R), who was a Judge at the time, may have as well.

If such a ground swell were to come, maybe some of our past 'Conservative GOP members will defect and be forced back to their original ideology and back to serving their constituents.

As it stand now, some may defect to the rank of Democrat. McCain is not to far from it.

"I feel you" on the desire to establish a more agreeable new party, but I also recall the disastrous run of the Bull Moose Party.

Then again, Lincoln was a third-party candidate as a "Liberal Republican" (back when we still used the classical definition of "liberal") and that became the modern Republican party. The strong two-party system hasn't always been the same two parties.

Are you also a 'Big Labowski' Fan?

But seriously, we have to somehow flush out the RINOS and reset the Conservative agenda.

If we allow the Dems to control everything for the next 8 yrs we are doomed.

than a good RedStater might want to admit.

Some kind of party evolution will inevitably happen. After all, there once was a single party called "Democrat-Republican."
