Advocating affirmative action for GOP '08 VP before Obama: Steele is the ticket

I have been advocating that putting a black on the '08 ticket is essential since well before Obama's hope became audacious. That he will probably be the Democrat nominee or the VP makes my proposal even more important.
We are the party of Lincoln. We have many well qualified blacks in our party. True affirmative action demands that we diversify the ticket. The Democratic Party can't win national elections without at least 80-85% of the Black vote. We could kill the Democratic Party by getting 75% of the black vote.
I have been advocating a draft J.C. Watts for President or VP campaign for years, but am also now convinced former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele would be nearly as good. I already thought well of Steele when I penned a Hugh Hewitt sponsored vox blogoli contest essay during the 2006 election season that was highlighted on Hewitt's website.
I am more convinced than ever that Steele would make a great VP choice after reading reports from the recent SC GOP debate festivities covered by The HinzSight Report:
Michael Steele is ready to be the Vice President of the United States, and as his supporters point out what a VP he will be.The Presidential hopeful lucky enough to get him to say yes as a running mate, will definitely have an advantage over the rest of the field.
Mr. Steele was Lt. Governor of Maryland from 2002 until 2006 when he left that office for an unsuccessful bid for a Senate seat in Maryland. Prior to being Lt. Governor, he was the Maryland GOP Chairman and delegate to the 2000 Republican Convention and a member of the Republican National Executive Committee.
He is smart, powerful and ready to be Vice President, of that there can be no doubt. During his campaign for the Maryland Senate seat, he proved himself in a debate with his rival, Ben Cardin. The debate was moderated by Tim Russert, and Steele came away a shining star, having totally dominated the entire debate.

And you dead on . . . Steele would be excellent. His only knock is the only office he's ever held is Maryland LG.
But maybe thats a good thing.

Watts is currently who Thompson insiders say is the first choice for VP. He's in favor of a Thompson candidacy, and has been in touch with the campaign. That's the word on the street.

neither Watts nor Steele have proven they have electoral pull.
The GOP would be ill-advised to try and "match" Obama or Clinton for that matter. Instead, it's best to nominate the strongest possible ticket (defined as strength at the polls and once in office).
If it's Giuliani, I expect to see Fred Thompson as VP
If it's McCain, I think it will be Pawlenty.
If it's Romney, I think he'll also pick Thompson
And if it's Thompson, I think he'll pick McCain or Giuliani (if they would accept) and Pawlenty or a dark horse like Rob Portman from Ohio.
If I had to bet today, I would say it will be a Giuliani-Thompson ticket.
He will be President (if he runs) or go back to the world of entertainment.
Your Pawlenty as VP is very interesting and makes alot of sense, regardless of who is the Prez nominee.
I wish to hell we had Sen. Steele-(R-MD) and if Inhofe retires, we have Sen. Watts (R-OK), I'd love Sen. Powell (R-NY) and Sen. Ward Connerly (R-CA). But to just pick out two prominent black Republicans, one a long retired Rep. and the other a recently failed Senate candidate, reeks of pandering. The sad thing is, if we didn't have Cheney-Rumsfeld's folly still going on in Iraq, we would have a Sen. Steele, along with second term Sen. Talent, Sen. DeWine, Sen. Santorum, etc.
Never forget, David Souter was nominated by President George H.W. Bush
Out of JC Watts, Michael Steele, Condi Rice, and Kenneth Blackwell, Blackwell would be by far the best VP.
...I would expect the VP pick to be either Condi Rice or Jeb Bush. Steele is a good guy, but didn't win his election. Steele should have been RNC head by now, but too many chefs decided to put Martinez in at RNC.
JCWatts and Pawlenty simply have no mojo. They are fantasy picks. Rice and Jeb are your two folks in the On-deck circle.

Fred Thompson and Michael Steele would be unstoppable.

Combine those with what Fred did to M. Moore the other day and well...
Just think of all of the ammo that is out there for them to use. Ammo meaning democrat records and comments.
These two together and the ads they will put out will be absolutely Mojorific!

Michael Steele was the keynote speaker at our state GOP dinner on Friday and he nailed it. He is a man on a mission to fix the GOP. He'd be a great VP.
He should have been named chair of the RNC.
