All caps, yelling and Foghorn Leghorn non-geek GC geekdom

or Ode to - in hopes GC's use of all caps doesn't further jade - Jaded
or (see Bullwinkle cartoon titles) Gamecock loves Jaded...
or
Gamecock likes Neil...
It is one thing for Redstate directors to prohibit diary/blog titles in all caps for aesthetic reasons.
It is quite another for people to obsess over their use as if their ear drums were actually impacted.
The former is understandable.
The latter is ridiculous.
Yelling's opprobrium is due to the unpleasantness to one's ears when used in non-alert to immediate danger circumstances.
Typed letters do not impact the ear.
Gamecock uses all caps for many different purposes, the most common of which is to avoid having to use the shift key as much as usual. After all folks, our comments here are not being graded for the purpose of college credits.
I also use all caps to call attention to the words and ideas for all kinds of reasons.
It is irritating to feel (I don't even like to use the word "feel" - ick!) the need to even write this much detail about my writing procedures.
I have my style. Shakespeare and Faulkner had theirs. I would prefer for mine to be studied posthostumously by Dave Hinz.
I wrote this due to my great respect, love and affection for Jaded.
God bless you. Hope this helps. If not, call me.
Last statement by this would be Howard Hughes like recluse:
I am a proud geek, albeit a geek that can fight, play sports with great skill, be the life of non-alcoholic and alcoholic parties alike, and pass for near normal in mixed company.
I am not a sissie. I am not "hurt" by seeing all caps. I never demand, with wrist limped, that someone stop "yelling" at me at Redstate or any other state.
I am, in short, neither nerd nor dork.
I am geek.
I am the kind of geek that all of you should aspire to be.
DAMN IT!
Jesus and gamecock loves you all, but no comments on this blog will be responded to.
Thus ends rooster crowing for all time on the subjects of my writing style, including the use of all caps.

that's the voice on the telephone Obama would dread hearing every day if he chose Hillary as VP, the voice of Bill Clinton.
Obama, I think Barack may have Bill schedule calls to get him out of the personal quarters upstairs
may even want to meet Monica

was curious about the caps because I believed you were aware of something the poster was saying about Google that was not true and in such were demanding their attention....no fuss, no muss....hell you can put everything in caps for all I care....caps for me are an emphasis on what I am saying and for you not so much...again the beauty of humanity is each and every one of us is different...I like things that way!

Recommended, because this made me laugh. I, too, am a geek--and proud of it. :-)
It's annoying and rude. Why? Who knows? Why is ripping one off in public rude? It's a natural function. It's one of those mysteries of life.

I love standing in one of those endless lines at Wal-Mart letting one slip silently out and looking around with a disgusted look on my face as if I'm trying to figure out who did it...LOL
What's funny is seeing the surprised look on people's faces and the shrugs telling me non verbally that it certainly wasn't them...

I think someone more famous than either of us once said something like: "...all things in moderation and according to good taste under the circumstances..." or something along those lines, and that pretty much sums up my philosophy on capitalization in the blogosphere. I have a fairly wide tolerance band AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T GET RIDICULOUS and I'm in no position to begrudge anyone else their occasional fits of pique and unhinged ranting -- as long as it's not their primary mode of communication. And most people get that well enough, unless they're quaffing triple espressos or huffing something really neurotoxic.
Hey, let's face it: if the blog software rigorously filtered out ALL CAPS on the server (either in titles or comments) it would increase the mean time it takes to spot the morons and bludgeon them with Spiked Pipes™, resulting in a waste of everyone else's valuable time. You have to let the herd cull itself, and that means giving people enough rope...

Guess I misread that. After the "Bullwinkle" reference, I thought you wrote "Gamecock likes Nell." Then I read closer. It was "Neil."
Now I AM confused.

Hint: that line, and two key words in the title of the diary, weren't there before I made that comment, heh.
GC.... this isn't because of last week, is it?
I'd hate to think so.

No, I would just have been a bit upset at this section:
I am not a sissie. I am not "hurt" by seeing all caps. I never demand, with wrist limped, that someone stop "yelling" at me at Redstate or any other state.
if it were referring to me.
Pointing out 'InternetCulture' does not equate to limp-wristed sissification.
though whining about having such things pointed out might.
But, as you said, you weren't...

This whole "Oh, you took a stupid loan and are losing your house, don't worry the Government will pay for it for you." crap really makes me wish I had bought a house that I couldn't afford.
Except, I have this crazy moral that says that when you enter into debt, you have a duty to pay it.... and a recurring theme that the one who owes is a slave to the one who is owed.
We know how much I like freedom.

just as much as a mortgage. The ONLY legitimate way to interpret contracts are by what the parties meant at the time of ratification.
This is about the fact that judges that treat the constitution as alive so that they can re-write it, could also do the same with a lib senator's mortgage and say that "vest" violates due process and that the senator must now deed the property to a victim!
get it?
now we also agree on the sub-prime whiners too

Yup, I agree....
Though, those who view the Constitution as an ever-changing 'living' document would never do something that would take power AWAY from the federal government.
Funny how that works.

"Constitution is a contract"
Nice way to put it. Don't remember if I've heard it before or not, but it's a very illuminating image.
Pluto, the Ninth Planet - Forever!
don't go comparing the "contract" of the US Constitution with a "mortgage." Was we have all come to realize, a mortgage is not worth cost of the paper it is written on -- as the US is about to go back in and bail-out all those lenders -- and therefore the mortgage-holders.
Just what we need, the Supreme Court to decide that GC says the constitution is like a mortgage and therefore is subject to being re-negotiated whenever we want.
Yup. And I agree with him. It doesn't change.
Of course, i also have a belief that there was some divine intervention involved in its creation.
It has worked too well for the cause of freedom for me to believe otherwise.
