Not content with rolling over and giving the Democrats their pork filled wish list with the budget bill the (nominal) Republicans just may have made energy WAY more expensive while possibly setting the stage for wiping out one or two of the US big three automotive manufactures.
Let us start with the bye-bye to the big three line …
The centerpiece of the bill remained the requirement for automakers to increase their industrywide vehicle fuel efficiency by 40 percent to an industry average of 35 mpg by 2020 compared to today's 25 mpg when including passenger cars as well as SUVs and small trucks.

Today at the U.N. Iranian President Ahmadinejad said he would not suspend uranium enrichment and did not intend to comply despite with two Security Council resolutions demanding his country do so.
But fear not, the U.N. on the case!

So says Republican Whip Trent Lott.
From the New York Times:
Comments by Republican senators on Thursday suggested that they were feeling the heat from conservative critics of the bill, who object to provisions offering legal status. The Republican whip, Trent Lott of Mississippi, who supports the bill, said: “Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.”
At some point, Mr. Lott said, Senate Republican leaders may try to rein in “younger guys who are huffing and puffing against the bill.”
