By ghbraves

So here it is.

For all Republican primary voters. Seven essential questions that you should think about.

1. Who do you believe more?
A. Rudy --> I will appoint strict constructionists, and I want Roe v. Wade overturned
B. Huck --> I will not raise taxes, and I will build the border fence

2. Can Rudy win more moderates with his liberal social views, or can Huck win more moderates with his liberal economic views?

By ghbraves

to be president in 2009.

And I took a hard look at myself and the facts, and I realize that I am in trouble.

As an economic conservative it's tough to vote for Mike Huckabee
As a social conservative, it's tough for me to vote for Rudy Guiliani
As someone with charisma, it's tough for me to vote for Fred Thompson
As someone who has always been Republican and doesn't flip flop, it's tough for me to vote for Mitt Romney

Posted at 1:57am on Jan. 31, 2007 I shook hands with Huckabee

By ghbraves

Well, Gov. Mike Huckabee came to town tonight, and I decided to go see him. It was a small gathering of 100 people or so, but it was more of a townhouse style.

My overall impression? I thought he was fantastic. Being from Northern Arkansas originally, we struck up a conversation about a yearly festival that he's been to several times in my old county. Granted, we only spoke for a moment, but it was good to chat with him and shake his hand. He asked me a couple questions about what I did too, which was definitely appreciated.

Why does every bill in Congress always have to be combined with something else, just to anger others?

Let's solve one problem at a time.

Take stem cell research...I am sitting here, reading about the Democrats and their passage of the bill, and also about Bush's veto, and all I can think is, can't we get back to the basic issues here?

What are the basics?

First, embryos are being thrown away. FACT.

By ghbraves

Nothing like a little Sunday morning blog before church.

I truly enjoy electoral college predicting…it certainly makes our democracy the most fun, mathematically speaking. Sites like 270towin.com sure do help also.

Clearly, though, there are 10 states that will be critical to win if one desires to wake up as president in January of 2009.

Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

Posted at 10:55pm on Nov. 7, 2006 Anti-Claire Sentiment in Missouri?

By ghbraves

The Missouri state auditor race is very close - virtually tied between the Republican and the Democrat.

Yet, Claire is behind Talent by more than 10,000 votes.

This leads me to believe 2 things:

1. It has NOT been primarily Republican counties that have reported so far.

2. Claire, for some reason, has 6,000 less votes than Susan Montee, the Democratic auditor candidate. Therefore, some Democrats are NOT voting for Claire. Or, some Republicans are voting for Montee, which is not likely, despite the rural roots of Montee.

Posted at 12:04am on Nov. 7, 2006 Missouri is THE state

By ghbraves

It's amazing how close one state can be. The closest race during this election cycle needs to fall to Talent, though.

Questions:
How many rural voters will turn out? How many suburban voters will shift to Claire? Will Jim Talent's reach out to the NAACP mean anything whatsoever?

But the question that ultimately emerges is this:

How good is the GOP GOTV effort? How energized are these volunteers and how many do we have to get Talent back to Washington D.C?

Posted at 11:42pm on Oct. 31, 2006 Jon Stewart lied about Missouri

By ghbraves

My first blog...ever. What shall I talk about? Missouri.

This week, the Daily Show is broadcasting from Ohio for the
Midwest Midterm Midtacular, and I don't have a problem with it. However, I don't appreciate the lack of love that is shown towards Missouri.

I assume that TDS is in Ohio the week before Midterms because:

1. It was THE battleground state in 2004
2. There is an important Senate and Governor's race in Ohio.
