"Freedom's Watch" Aims to Surpass MoveOn.org, Begins with $15M Ad Buy

Freedom Watch's campaign is starting with a $15 million advertisement buy, and that's just the beginning. The CEO, Brad Blakeman, says that the goal is to “communicate to the American people, to Congress and to the world that there’s another side to the story, and that America should not and must not surrender, because appeasement doesn’t work.”

“There’s a significant voice out there that believes that, but it wasn’t breaking through organizationally or in the media."

I have just received the below email update from Freedom's Watch. I have added a few of my own comments as well. To be added to the email list, go to www.freedomswatch.org and sign up.

National Media Day

Today, those of us who believe we must win the war on terror have an extraordinary opportunity.

Freedom's Watch has released several moving and emotional commercials to major television and radio outlets from veterans and their families - people who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Moveon.org will talk a lot about the quitting and giving up in Iraq. But what they won't discuss and in truth, what they just don't care about is the overwhelming cost of U.S. and Iraqi lives and security if we give up too soon and lose this war.

See, for instance, "The Cost of Withdrawal From Iraq," assembled by Foundation for Defense of Democracies:

Our message of hope and freedom in Iraq is silent unless YOU act. We need you to join us on this national media day. You need take only 5-10 minutes of your time to do significant good for the nation.

1. Watch the testimonies of Iraq veterans and their families. http://www.youtube.com/user/Freedomswatch

2. Call 1-877-222-8001, our toll-free dial-in system to Congress, and tell your Members of Congress that retreating will be exponentially more costly than finishing the job.

Tell them also that the new strategy has shown tremendous military progress in just a few months, as more and more folks on both sides of the aisle are acknowledging.

3. Help us spread this message! Email the commercial to 5 of your friends.

We've needed an overarching pro-war group like this for a long time.

"Do the day's work."

this one seems well funded and organized, however I think it should be noted that Move America Forward has been doing yoeman's work for a long time. Vets for Freedom have long ago been organizing war supporters. While I think everyone should help this group, you all should also take a look at the other groups I mentioned as well and help them also.

but I agree that we should support them, too. I'm actively helping the current Vets on the Hill campaign. Learn more at:

Move America Forward is doing a cross-country tour with rallies in many, many cities from Sept. 2-15, with the big D.C. rally occurring on the 15th. Check their website to see if they'll be coming through your city!

It is indeed vital to get the word out to the public on the likely consequences of our leaving Iraq. But we also need to address the likely consequences of continuing our current policy and realize that we need to change our policy to put more pressure on the Iraqis, particularly the Shiite leadership, to work in good faith toward political reconciliation. Otherwise much of the consequences we are trying to prevent will occur eventually anyway. http://www.redstate.com/blogs/mediahawk/2007/aug/08/the_nightmare_the_le...

The policy change I've been advocating (see two links below) is BOTH the smartest policy AND the smartest politics (i.e., the best approach to sustaining support for the war at home).

Worthwhile column by George Will discusses the false dichotomy and loss of objectivity by many on both sides of this debate. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/08/america_slipping_towar...

did a double-take....but it was great to see.
