By GoldwaterRepublican

If you are just waking up this morning, here is the news:

A missile fired by Hezbollah, not an unmanned drone laden with explosives, damaged an Israeli warship off Lebanon, the army said Saturday. (AP)

Posted at 5:52am on Jul. 12, 2006 Where is the party...?

By GoldwaterRepublican

I have been absent from this site for a month or so now, except to make a few comments about Lebron James. The reason for my absence is that sometimes I become apathetic towards politics. What I mean by this is that I change my mind daily about whether I should call myself a Republican and engage in partisan conversations on websites such as this one. I just get real down and think that no matter who wins, no matter which party is in power, it will always be more of the same. My user name says it all, I consider myself to be a Republican in the Goldwater tradition. However, I am not sure if there is still room in the party for people like me.

By GoldwaterRepublican

The full link to the story I am about to describe is here: http://www.athensnews.com/issue/article.php3?story_id=25136

That story does a much better job of explaining what happened and trust me it is worth the read, as it will bring a smile to your face. However, for those who want the condensed version, I will do my best below the fold.

I have stayed quiet on the immigration issue because I was not sure where I stood on it. While I agree that it is a problem, I have been hesitant on it because it does not strike me as realistic to deport all illegal immigrants and if it were possible, I think it would be a waste of resources. If I had to give a solution, I would say the answer is legislation that balances between giving those who are here a chance of obtaining citizenship and working to strengthen our border security to end new illegal immigration. However, a visit to the Druge Report today made me realize that there is a vital third part to the solution.

Posted at 9:53am on May 20, 2006 John McCain: Welcome to College

By GoldwaterRepublican

The liberal establishment once again showed its contempt for the open exchange of ideas on college campuses. Students and faculty members at the New School turned their backs on John McCain and openly hissed at him as former Senator Bob Kerrey introduced him to deliver the commencement address. Kerrey, for his credit, tried to remind the students that open-mindedness was a core value of the New School; however, it was to no avail, as students and faculty were content to use the commencement as a stage for protest.

By GoldwaterRepublican

Dependence on foreign oil hurts our economy and threatens our national security. In addition, it gives us less of an advantage in negotiating diplomatically with countries in the Middle East and Central America. Why then does the United States continue to rely on foreign oil?

Jack Kingston today in an article titled, "Helping American Achieve Energy Independence", writes that energy independence should not be a partisan issue. He continues by writing, that "every American family who spent 40-50 dollars to fill up their car" and those who realize "it is not in our interest to remain dependent on those who don't share our interests'" know that there is no longer time for an academic debate on the issue. Kingston closes the article by writing:

"Energy independence is not a partisan idea. Republicans and Democrats pay the same high prices at the pump, liberals and conservatives are both threatened by oil funded terror. There will be plenty of places we can have political disagreement this year, I hope this is not one of them."

Posted at 8:09pm on Apr. 25, 2006 Huffington Post: Moronic or Really Moronic?

By GoldwaterRepublican

The Huffington Post today posted an article entitled "The Gay Republican: Oxymoron or Just Moron?" This article and those who commented on it claim that gay Republicans are the equivalent of Jews joining the Nazi Party. The article concludes by saying that while there may have been a time when the party could tolerate homosexuals in its ranks that the party today does not want gay members. I know that I cannot speak for the entire party and its membership, but I think that as long as gays agree with the basic tenets of the party, then they should feel welcome to join it.

Posted at 11:04pm on Apr. 24, 2006 What happened to the Party of Principled Conservatism?

By GoldwaterRepublican

Evidence in my opinion that the Republican Party is going away from its core values is this quote:

"The Republican party," says Arlen Specter, "is now principally moderate, if not liberal" -- and he means it as a compliment. "I'll just say this about the so-called porkbusters," chips in Trent Lott. "I'm getting damn tired of hearing from them. They have been nothing but trouble since Katrina." (From nationalreviewonline.com)

The Chairman of the Judiciary Committee feels that our party is liberal. In addition, our former leader in the Senate is getting tired of hearing about cutting government spending. What has happened to the party of fiscal responsibility and principled conservatism?

Posted at 1:04am on Apr. 21, 2006 Political Correctness to the Extreme in Ohio

By GoldwaterRepublican

The most popular liberal/Democrat blog in the state of Ohio, www.buckeyestateblog.com,  banned my liberal friend from the site today for being a racist. He is anything but a racist, but that is beside the point to them. The comment that got him banned was (edited to make comprehension easier):

"Please tell me what happens when they (African-Americans) do not agree, which is obviously the case (in regards to who should be Ohio Democratic Party Chair). There is not a monolithic community or someone who speaks for all African-Americans. STJ (Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, African-America congressperson from Ohio) is not special in any way, shape, or form and there is no reason deference should be given to her over Beatty (African-American Democratic Ohio House Minority leader), Prentice (African-American Democratic Ohio Senate Minority leader), or Mallory (African-American Mayor of Cincinnati)."

Posted at 1:31am on Apr. 19, 2006 Glad President Bush is the "decider" of the United States

By GoldwaterRepublican

I am new here, so let me offer a brief introduction before I get into the meat of my post. Currently, I live in Columbus, OH and hope to move to Illinois by the end of the summer to attend graduate school at Northern Illinois University. I consider myself a libertarian, which puts me at odds with some of my fellow Republicans on issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and legalized gambling. However, I consider myself a Republican because there is room within the party to debate the above-mentioned issues and because I am a strong proponent of tax cuts, free trade, limited government, and states rights. In addition, I think Republicans are more capable then Democrats to conduct the War on Terrorism.

Ok, the topic I want to cover tonight is my displeasure at the liberals who call to impeach and discredit President Bush even when it is not warranted and after they are proven wrong. First, there is this article by Carl Bernstein: http://www.vanityfair.com/features/general/articles/060417fege08
