Posted at 4:58pm on Feb. 4, 2008 And We Wonder Why the Paultards React That Way... [Updated again]
By GOP84
“It’s a tough war we’re in. It’s not going to be over right away. There’s going to be other wars. I’m sorry to tell you, there’s going to be other wars. We will never surrender but there will be other wars.”
-John McCain
I never thought I could see justification for the paranoia that fuels Paultards but I think I'm beginning to see it now. I didn't expect McCain to be so blunt about it. It seems that he really intends to lead us into future wars. He doesn't say why. He doesn't say how. He just says that it's inevitable.

Posted at 12:22am on Feb. 3, 2008 So I Just Got Back from a Huckabee Rally
By GOP84
I know a lot of you may be gasping at the thought of me, a Romney supporter attending a rally for an opponent of my candidate, but what can I say? He came to my town, to the university I attended and he's a GOP presidential candidate. So why not?
I got to the rally about an hour early. At that point, Governor Huckabee hadn't even arrived yet but many of his campaign staff and several supporters had. I noticed that some of the same people that supported Huckabee had a few "Roy Moore 2006" Signs in the back of their trucks.

By GOP84
I'm sure you've all heard about Sean Hannity.
But now you can add Laura Ingraham, Rick Santorum, Lynn Westmoreland, and the Arkansas Republican Assembly.

By GOP84
My fellow Republicans, I believe we have reached one of the most divided times in our history. The President of our great country is a member of our party and generally, I feel that he has done a good job. For instance, in the face of 9/11, he stood firm and led us through one of the most difficult times in our nation's history. He has appointed excellent conservative judges to the Supreme Court, which we hope will lead to more constitutional rulings in the highest court of our country.

Posted at 10:00am on Jan. 31, 2008 Is It Just Me Or....
By GOP84
Is it just me or has John McCain forgotten how to debate the issues? It seems like lately his current strategy in the debates is to either a) attack Romney, b) enumerate his endorsements or c) use typical Democratic rhetoric.
Of course last night, as usual, he attacked Romney like a rabid dog for something that has no basis in fact, which literally sounds like something a rabid dog would actually do....

Posted at 12:52pm on Jan. 30, 2008 Is This Really What You Want?
By GOP84
To say that I was dismayed about the results of last night would be an understatement. John McCain lost among conservatives and evangelicals and still yet managed to prevail the victor in Florida. McCain was high among the independent/moderate/liberal/secular spectrum of the GOP, as he has been in virtually every contest thus far. He even won among pro-abortion Republicans last night.

Posted at 5:59pm on Jan. 23, 2008 McCain the Flip-Flopper
By GOP84
I've always thought it was strange that McCain gets a free pass on his flip-flopping, while Mitt Romney gets raked over the coals for his change in positions. What should be good for the goose should be good gander, but it seems that somehow McCain is above reproach when it comes to deviating from a previously held position.
It boggles my mind how McCain can vote against the Bush tax cuts, claim that he was right to do so, and then scream from the rooftops that they need to be made permanent. Well John, we wouldn't have them in the first place if it was up to you.

Posted at 11:40am on Jan. 22, 2008 The Sunset of Fred's Campaign
By GOP84
I've tried to be as nice as possible about this, but it's time for us to realize that for all intents and purposes, Fred D. Thompson is no longer a major player in this race.
I have tremendous respect for Senator Thompson. And had he been the nominee, he would have been a fantastic president, a president I would have fought for tooth and nail in the general election. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

By GOP84
First of all, I consider you my friends, my allies, my compatriots. If recent events had played out differently, I would have gladly taken up arms with you and championed the cause of our candidate Fred Thompson.
I realize that many other bots and supporters of candidates are hovering over you like vultures over carrion, and I do not necessarily intend to be one of them. I believe your cause was worthy, valid, and indeed admirable.

Posted at 3:56pm on Jan. 14, 2008 Who's the Mudslinger Now?
By GOP84
I always thought it was ironic that Romney was painted by the McCain campaign as the most negative of candidates. After all, Romney's ads are the probably the nicest among any of the the "attack" ads I've ever seen. Typically, negative ads don't refer to the victim as an "honorable man."
And to say that Huckabee is all positive is equally disingenous because of the statements he has made against Romney. But to me, it's plain to see the John McCain hates Mitt Romney. The latest of attacks on Romney, coupled with his snide and childish antics at the debate a week ago seem to reveal a more cutthroat side of McCain.

By GOP84
Now, let me just say that I do not mean this to be disrespectful in any way. But I've always been under the distinct impression that you are a Fred guy. I personally think that's why you seem anti-Romney sometimes, to compensate for the fact that they're really not all that different. I understand. Maybe you just like Fred more. I just like Romney more. When it comes down to it, both men have virtually the same principles (even though Romney supports the FMA and Thompson doesn't) and they both believe in the Reagan coalition. So in the spirit of our mutual affection for Fred, I made this brand new RedState logo for you:

Posted at 1:12am on Jan. 9, 2008 How Romney Can Still Win
By GOP84
In politics, not everything goes to plan. So far, that has certainly been the case for Mitt Romney in this race. He has lost 2 out of the 3 main states he hoped to win. Is it over for him? Is he finished?
Hardly! Many are saying that he is badly wounded and should even drop out, but to those naysayers I ask, "why should the delegate leader drop out?" Romney, even after stinging losses in Iowa and New Hampshire is still leading in delegates, having only won the state of Wyoming.

Posted at 3:34pm on Jan. 7, 2008 Why We Look to Reagan
By GOP84
It's virtually undeniable that Ronald Reagan is the most popular Republican president since Abraham Lincoln. Barely 20 years from his final year in office, we as Republicans now look to him as an icon of what we want in a President today. Just why is that the case?
Despite the overarching greatness we remember him for, Ronald Reagan did make mistakes. Now to some within our party, that previous statement would be considered heresy or treason. But according to our principles as a party, there were times, though few, when Reagan fell short. He granted amnesty to illegal aliens which has played a part in the immigration debacle we face today. The national debt increased greatly under his administration, which seemed to validate the "voodooeconomics" charge by Reagan's future Vice President George H.W. Bush. And during his administration as governor of California, Reagan was pro-choice.

Posted at 11:07am on Jan. 4, 2008 Ed Rollins is a Moron and Other Observations
By GOP84
Did anyone catch the exchange between Ed Rollins and Chris Wallace on Fox News? Every time Wallace tried to ask a question, Rollins wouldn't shut up. I personally think that Rollins is a blithering old hack and Huckabee should fire him. What say ye?
Congratulations to Huck. New Hampshire won't be so easy. I think Club for Growth may actually try to subvert a McCain or Huckabee victory there. At least I hope so. I think they underestimated Huckabee's chances, as did I.

Posted at 10:25am on Jan. 3, 2008 Wishful Thinking for Iowa
By GOP84
Right now, the GOP caucus-goers in Iowa have one choice: Mitt Romney or a GOP disaster.
If Romney wins, he'll see a fairly clear path to the nomination. An Iowa victory should give him the momentum to win New Hampshire and Michigan, which will likely lead to victories in South Carolina and Florida.
A Huckabee win will probably set up a McCain victory in New Hampshire, causing utter chaos. Michigan could still go for Romney...so on and so forth.
