The New York City Department of Education confirmed yesterday that Gov. Paterson HAS intervened on behalf of Diane Dixon to get her a job that she had apparently been turned down for.

About that same time she told the New York Post she had tape recordings proving her close relationship with him.

Only one day after David Paterson and his wife gave a heart felt speech about their infidelities and how things have been patched up, we get our first serious challenge to Gov. Paterson's position.

While Elliot Spitzer's tryst's were of the illegal kind and David's are simply of the cheating kind, he may have used his office as Lt. Gov. to garner a job for his latest girl friend.

The beautiful girl on the left is none other then Diane Dixon, Olymipic medal winner in the 1984 and 1988 summer Olympics. According to Ms. Dixon, Lt. Gov. Paterson got her a nice paying gig with the NYC Department of Education. Here is how she tells it...

“I’m a single mom with a child. I need this job,” said Dixon, who grew up on Carroll Street in Crown Heights and won medals in the 4×400-meter relay at the 1984 games in Los Angeles and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Dixon, 43, said Paterson, 53, was “mostly responsible” for getting her a badly needed job earlier this month with the city Department of Education in Crown Heights’ District 17.

Apparently they have been having an affair that lasted at least until this past summer, well beyond what Paterson says.

However, there is this news story...

Paterson, a Democrat who was sworn in on Monday, admitted yesterday to having had several extramarital affairs, but contended they all ended years ago. He was informed by The Post in the morning that at least one news organization had been notified he had recently been involved with a woman from Brooklyn.

Paterson denied the claim.

But a few hours later, Dixon called The Post to say she had received a message from Paterson inquiring about whether she was talking to the press.

Ms. Dixon has emails and recorded telephone converstaions with Paterson, his office denies all of it, says he just met her when he was giving her a Chamber of Commerce medal.

So, another liar that will be stepping down amid this embarrasment? Will NY have a Republican Governor?

You just can't make this stuff up. LOL. Emails and taped conversations, oh boy. The VWRC has done their homework by having good backup plans ;)

It seems "they" are like the Cardassians in that they have always have a trap, within a trap, within a trap. Because we all know that liberals are kind-hearted, well-intentioned people who would NEVER abuse power for their own personal sake.

Hopefully this is actually mentioned in the press. It probably won't force him to resign, but it will make him look like the placeholder he really is.

However, people sometimes confuse sins of the flesh with illegal activity. There is a big difference between infidelity and illegal prostitution. Spitzer's illegal mess was cataclysmic.

but it appears Paterson is a blatant liar. I don't what such an obvious lying phony for my Governor.

Some people don't like it that he had "revenge sex" after his wife cheated on him. Others think that Paterson should be canonized for fessing up.

I don't think the cheating will be as big as getting one of his squeezes a job. Kinda like McGreevey isn't it?

I'm pleased that we finally have a politician who isn't hitting on subordinants or breaking the law to get a little but is doing the old-fashioned "cheating". (And, let's face it, an Olympic medalist? A man would need a heart of stone to not purse his lips and nod for a second before entering into heartfelt condemnation of adultery.)

But the fact that he *THEN* got her a job?

What the heck? That falls well outside the boundaries of perfectly acceptable corruption.

Not really - she didn't claim to have had threesomes with the Patersons.

If someone does have such capacity then maybe it's more telling of a person's character than the act itself.

for this. Well, I do, but they aren't coherent, so I'll refrain. For now.

This guy is a bum, a phony and a liar. I don't want him as my Governor, however I am stuck with him for now.

If he doesn't quit, then he'll merely be a place holder until the next election.

If David Paterson should cease to be Governor before the term expires on January 1, 2011, "a governor and lieutenant-governor shall be elected for the remainder of the term at the next general election happening not less than three months after both offices shall have become vacant."[28] Bruno would serve as Acting Governor until that election

So if the Paterson thing explodes, Bruno would be Governor for a while, but as he is nearly 79, probably not that long. I'd guess Bloomberg or Giuliani would take this as a cue to give Albany a try. I guess it could be a year of four governors, for New York.

it could be, but my guess is he'll stick it out...

it could be 4 Governors in one year! See, NY is first at lots of stuff besides taxes and air pollution!

I think Paterson will probably stick it out too... As long as people can look at whatever he's done and still find it less objectionable than Spitzer's actions, he'll still have enough of a foothold to try and ride out the storm. With the likelihood that Dems will lose control to a Republican or Independence Party candidate upon Paterson's ouster, they'll be hesitant to let him go unless things go to a complete extreme.

I'm just explaining what the procedure is in that "could be" scenario. I don't think Bruno would seek to continue as Governor, so if that does happen, the GOP would need a candidate. Giuliani would be a prime choice, Bloomberg would probably try as an independent. I don't know who the Dems would run... Andy Cuomo maybe?

He will hang on with the blessing of both Shelley Silver and Joe Bruno. NY is run by three men in a back room. The legislature is no more than a rubber stamp of the leader of whichever house the member sits in. You do not buck the leadership. So if Silver says it the Assembly will do it and likewise with Bruno in the Senate.

So, a weak governor is in both their interests as it increases their leverage in any negotiations, especially on the budget. If Patterson left, or was forced out, then there would be a new election and the winner would have a popular mandate to actual do whatever it is he campaigns to do (probably "clean up Albany" as is the usual pledge). And a potentially popular new governor with an actual elective mandate would be bad news for Joe and Shelley.

Their heads are just that far up their rear ends. Plus, there are just that many bribed dependent stealing from enamored of the government

Wow... and let's not forget that Joe Bruno is still being investigated by the FBI. What if he gets in trouble as well?

and leader of the Senate. He'll only be a place holder, NY requires a new election if the Gov and Lt. Gov offices are vacated.

Bruno only takes the role of Lt Gov, he does not acede to that office. Therefore, if Paterson goes, then we have a new election within 90 days.

David Paterson Must Go

Our guy tarred and feathered as well.

The fact he got one of his mistresses a government job is very shady

If Bloomberg were to run he would be heavy favorite and he has been helping NY GOP Senate Comm and it would be interesting to see where he would fall on congressional races

This story needs to be looked at closely

especially when they're badly needed

Not that I'm advocating letting all Olympic medalists live off the public weal for the rest of their lives, but I believe their athletic achievements for the greater name of their nation merits extra consideration.

(The affair makes it look bad, but I think it will all be excused because of her Olympic achievement.)

for having to help a blind squirrel find the acorn...

but i think that's far out of bounds

It would still be horrendously improper for her significant other to get her a job. (At least in a government position)

She deserves the additional medal for helping him find a place to deposit his acorn without penalty for early withdrawal.

Only in New York, as they say.

1. Have water supplies in New York tested for excessive levels of testosterone.

2. If Patterson had extramarital relationships, as he admits, by my standards it reflects bad character. Bad character sometimes forces Republicans to resign from office, but almost never Dems.

3. If Patterson intervened to obtain a government job for one of his paramours, that's corrupt and, I assume, is a prosecutable misappropriation of public funds. Even then, I notice that Dems usually wait until they're convicted to resign. What's the hurry? If, for example, you're Representative Jefferson your money's not going to spoil in the freezer.
