By GregInFla
H.R. 3221 (Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008 ), sponsored by San Fran Nan, passed cloture vote today 83-9. The official record contains a great line for us cynics. For Measure Title, it lists: A bill to provide needed housing reform and for other purposes. Let's see what those purposes might be. Maybe to reward Countrywide and BankOfAmerica (who helped write the bill) from Senator Dodd? Or maybe to help out a fellow Congresswoman from California who is facing foreclosure due to taking on too much debt? Or maybe to just buy votes this November?
The usual suspects were absent (again): Clinton, Obama, Kennedy, McCain, and 4 other Republicans.
As usual, my GOP Senator Mel Martinez voted in the affirmative on this bailout, so I shared with him my views, and thought I'd share my letter/email here in case others need similar material for their senators. Go to senate.gov and feel free to let your senators know how you feel bailing out irresponsible borrowers and lenders.
The letter and conclusions lie below the fold.

Posted at 12:08am on Jun. 24, 2008 Banning Flavors in Cigarettes: Discrimination again?
By GregInFla
Congress is considering S. 2461 The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which would grant limited control of tobacco to the FDA. Fox News asks: Is menthol a flavor that should be banned from cigarettes?
Menthol flavoring would not be banned under a bill before Congress that gives control of tobacco products to the Food and Drug Administration. The bill would ban flavor additives such as mint, clove and vanilla, which appeal to young people.
Menthol is preferred by more than 75 percent of black smokers, according to government estimates. Fewer than 25 percent of whites smoke it.

Posted at 2:00am on Dec. 15, 2007 Stop being Poll-ish!
By GregInFla
Not one vote has been cast in any primary or caucus for the GOP 2008 Nomination. Yet I hear of people not supporting a candidate because they are not doing well in the polls. This is a self-fulfilling statement, people!
In just ten minutes of reading here tonight, I heard numerous mentions of "I'd support so-and-so, but he's not doing well in the polls." Well, you'd think that on election day, it was Rasmussen that ran the polling places! Got some news for you: the polling places are not even open yet.

Posted at 9:21pm on Oct. 31, 2007 Worst Halloween Costumes- Got one?
By GregInFla
Today is Halloween. My question to you all is this?
What costume would stand out, be so out of place, such that you would know that the person could not be what/who they are pretending to be?
Examples would be:
1. Hillary Clinton joking/laughing for an hour with Bill O'Reilly.
2. Jack Bauer holding a cell phone, waiting for a phone call from the UN Sec. General.
3. A SF mayor trick-or-treating with a US Marine.

Posted at 1:13am on Oct. 15, 2007 Organized Support For Lt. Murphy (SEAL) in DC
By GregInFla
Fellow patriots: Can some of us patriots who have been so moved by hearing Lt. Murphy's story in Lone Survivor and on the web (no thanks to MSM) come up to DC on the 22nd and show our support for our troops? I cannot think of a more appropriate opportunity. Is anything being organized? These guys are my heroes.
