Han Pritcher's blog

By Han Pritcher
Good evening. A few folks had asked for this, so I'll provide it. I wish to be clear as crystal here - I did not join RedState to convince anyone to vote for Senator Obama. This is not proselytizing of any sort. A few folks wanted to know why I'm voting for Obama, and I'm answering that question. Do not comment with mockery, personal insults, or anything of the sort. I'm a little uncomfortable doing this given the audience (I'm not saying you're a rude bunch, but rather that you're, shall we say, disinclined to agree?), but I said I would write the blog. Engage the points I make if you like but please be reasonable. And yes, I expect that most of you will be.

If I'm reading this right then NASA has ten flights left for the Space Shuttle fleet. Endeavour, our youngest Shuttle, will be the last to fly on May 31st of 2010. We've got one more flight up to Hubble and seven more to the International Space Station. As the folks at Ars Technica note, it is interesting that the Space Shuttle's final missions will be exactly what it was originally intended to to do: put big heavy payloads into orbit.

Posted at 11:07pm on Jun. 19, 2008 Some thoughts on Nuclear Power
By Han Pritcher
Hello again, everyone. I hope you're all having a good evening.
As I've said here I'm a fan of further nuclear power. I don't see anything else that can scale fast enough for our coming needs. There are a few things I've been mulling over, and I'd like to read your thoughts on them.
First up, I've been looking to the French example quite a bit. I understand that they're not terribly popular hereabouts, but they do get something like three quarters of their power from nuclear fission so there are some things we can take from their example. They're big on reprocessing as I understand it. They had been providing that service for nuclear plants outside of France, but this has fallen off considerably as those other firms have found it cheaper to store their waste locally as opposed to paying the French to reprocess it.

Yeah, I don't think that helps anybody frankly. And no, I don't think it speaks to the character of your party, and no I'm not blaming Senator McCain or anybody other than the guy selling them.
But seriously, that isn't helpful and such deviations from the reservation are a distraction I cannot imagine the Republican Party wants right now.

Posted at 3:06pm on Jun. 13, 2008 I Admit That You Have a Point* (yes, that's an asterisk)
By Han Pritcher
Good afternoon, everyone. I thought I'd make a small contribution here. I have been mostly absent of late. The primary battle in my own party has taken up a good deal of my internet time, so to speak. In the intervening weeks I have made a few lifestyle changes that have gotten my little gray cells to work.
I've practically stopped driving. I'm commuting by bike about 12 miles a day now. Obviously there are some tasks that require a larger vehicle, and I do drive when I must. However, I've modified my grocery shopping habits and so forth such that I'm tagging along with my girlfriend when she has some other reason to go out for a drive.

Posted at 8:21pm on May 5, 2008 Some thoughts and firsthand experiences with illegal immigrants
By Han Pritcher
Good evening everyone.
I used to work for a cell phone carrier in a retail environment. I am bilingual, having lived in Puerto Rico for a few years as a kid. I did business with a very large number of illegal (and obviously some legal) hispanic immigrants. The paucity of bilinguals in that business served to drive a good deal of business my way. I spent perhaps a fifth of my time with customers speaking Spanish. It was great practice, and I was grateful for that. I no longer get to use that skill so much, and it atrophies.

Good evening everyone.
Okay, let me see here. I came here looking for debate, discourse, and reasonable disagreements. That is not what I have found. What I have found, however, is a propensity by some to denigrate those with whom they disagree, and a predisposition towards willfull distortions of ideas. That, or perhaps, some are simply incapable of taking a point as it was meant.

Posted at 7:21pm on Apr. 8, 2008 Howdy folks!
By Han Pritcher
Good evening, everyone. I'm new here, and you can call me Han Pritcher. I imagine Moe Lane will like the name. I'm a leftish Democrat, though not any kind of extremist. I enjoy debate and I like to learn. Let us see how this turns out, shall we?
I've got a year left in my studies. I am a law student in Ohio, though I grew up in South Carolina. I have a degree in both history and international studies. I'm a bit of a sci-fi nut and I have a deep love of history.
