Enough is Enough: My Declaration of War Against American Mainstream Media

By haystack Posted in | Comments (70) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

I tried to find the text of an official Declaration to use as a backdrop, but I am too angry and suffer from a serious case of impatience to look any further. While enjoying my daily lunch-time tune up with the Godfather, Limbaugh, I came in on his "analysis" of Anderson Cooper's "360 Degrees" "show", during which he aired and analyzed the videotaped killings of American Soldiers by the so-called insurgents; the Islamic Iraq Army.

Read on . . .

This is so disgusting and despicable on so many levels and in so many ways, I don't even know where to start. The intro from the "technically, according to American Law, NOT treasonous and traiterous Cooper and his company, CNN" goes something like this:

Two thousand, seven hundred and eighty-three American troops have been killed so far in Iraq. You can see the faces behind me. Eleven deaths, we learned about today alone.

They're numbers and names only to people whose business it is to deal in such terms. They're not number or names to their buddies or their C.O.s, not to their friends, their families, their loved ones.

We owe them a lot, including a clear and honest accounting of what they are up against, today, tomorrow, for the foreseeable future. To do any less, to sugarcoat the reality, we think, dishonors their sacrifice.

So, tonight, you will see how some Americans in Iraq are getting killed. The killings were videotaped by the insurgents, and made available to CNN. There is no doubt the footage is disturbing to watch. Our decision to run it has not been taken lightly.

This story, shocking as you may find it, is one that we believe needs to be told.

It is reported tonight by CNN's Michael Ware.

Bile rises up to my throat at having to promote his trash here, but you must see for yourselves the levels to which this scum will stoop to further promote the anti-Bush, anti-War, anti-American Soldier swill the Liberals and their propagandists insist on cramming down everone's throats. I am so mad right now, I could spit.

My son-in-law could have been the one they sat idly by and watched the sniper shoot dead where he stood mingling with Iraqi citizens. Your son, my neighbor's son, our pastor's son could have been on the receiving end of that sniper's bullet; the CNN reporter in hushed tones describes the scene as if he were watching an auction to see who got the final bid on a prized treasure. This is war, MSM, war.

The "analyst, or play by play commentator if you will:

MICHAEL WARE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): A sniper is watching these American soldiers. You're looking at the unobstructed view from the sniper team's vehicle.

And they are waiting for their moment, as the soldiers mingle with Iraqi civilians.

"People are around them," warns the sniper's spotter, who seems to be operating the video camera.

"Want me to find another place?"

"No, no," comes the reply. "Give me a moment."

And, then, the soldier falls forward. You hear the sniper's vehicle start, and they slip away.

American casualties this month are tracking at near record numbers. This video is a glimpse into an enduring feature of this war. Ground commanders say it is a growing and deadly tactic, insurgent sniper teams.

U.S. military intelligence tells CNN, it suspects some of these teams are trained abroad. They make an intimidating weapon.

We can't see the Abu Ghraib pictures, they are too disgusting and humilatingly terrible It is too soon to re-watch the 9/11 images, we have not had enough time to heal. But somehow, magically, we MUST watch one of our own take a sniper's bullet (with play-by-play voice-over) to make sure we get the horrors of war.

The gloves are off. That was someone's son. If I thought a boycott would work I'd do it. If I thought a petition to the FCC to pull their license would work, I'd try. If I thought I could create my own Media Conglomerate and run them out of business, I would sign the (bad) check right now. What I CAN do, is finish this piece, and start a campaign to tear at these (expletive removed in deference to the posting guidelines) with every fiber of my being.

it is their ravenous appetite for negative stories on the military and the obvious glee they experience when reporting these stories that eats me up.

In this war, count me as an ally Haystack.

...doesn't exist, as far as I have been able to determine. There are tons of resources out there, but there is no place to go to learn about the media. Everyone wants to explain to you how the media is; nobody wants to teach you about the media. I don't need to read any books, see any videos, hear any on media bia, ineptitude or greed. Or on how to use it to further your own ends. That part, I know. As do we all.

I need to understand the media itself much better, and I don't see anyone addressing that need. I suspect organizations like the Media Research Center have just found a good gig for themselves...pushing hot buttons to keep themselves employed. And important.

If anyone knows of any place one can get a Media 101 tutorial, I would love to hear about it.

From a Drudge headline, after CNN got a few beatings of negative response over this "crime" against the Soldiers fighting and dying so the media scum over there can get home safely with their swill, we find this:

Baghdad correspondent Michael Ware had been in contact through intermediaries with Ibrahim al-Shammari, a leader for the rebel group Islamic Army. Ware had sent al-Shammari a series of questions about the insurgency in Iraq, Doss explained.

In reply, al-Shammari sent two tapes. One reportedly showed him, with face concealed, responding to the questions. The other showed the sniper incidents, seemingly taken by the insurgents themselves, CNN said.

CNN understood that some critics might find that the tape had public relations benefits for the insurgency, Doss wrote.

"We also understood that this kind of footage is upsetting and disturbing for many viewers," he said. "But after getting beyond the emotional debate, we concluded the tape meets our criteria for newsworthiness."

The decision was subject to "hours of intense editorial debate" at CNN's highest levels, he said.

Doss said he had already received several angry responses from viewers of Wednesday's five-minute report, some wondering whether CNN was helping the enemy and others concerned that the tape was inappropriate for young viewers who may have happened upon it.

"Whether or not you agree with us in this case, our goal, as always, is to present the unvarnished truth as best we can," Doss said.

they decided to air the tape.

So to CNN, a decision not to aid the enemy of the United States of the sort responsible for countless attacks and deaths worldwide, including those in the United States on 09-11-01, is a product of emotion.

Don't they get the realities of this war?

We're talking about CNN becoming, in some instances, Public Access for Terrorists, which is something I had once called al-Jazeera.

from my blog CNN defends its airing of Insurgent propaganda! today:

CNN the unofficial North American affiliate of Aljazeera and seemingly willing accomplice to at least one insurgent group from Iraq has aired what appears to be the killing of U.S. troops by sniper attack!

"Peace had a chance"

Put forth a plan that has a reasonable chance of making an impact and watch it succeed beyond your wildest imagination. This country is sick of the media. Just check out their revenues.

I am researching the advertising...the sponsors...and the market demographics now. I am also going to look into the relationship with Time-Warner and THEIR advertisers...I have sent the first letter to Cooper, and will be doing more there as well for now.

I DID reach out to MRC, and will see where that leads.

Next stop is posting this across my other places and the places of my friends.

And, I am open to ideas. My local newspaper shares these advertisers (some) and carries CNN syndicated trash, so I will be going after the local media as well. Got any ideas of your own?

All I got for the moment is rage. When that levels off, I need to go after their viewer and reader share and revenue streams.

Any "We support the troops" advertisers need to know that their money goes to places that seem to find a sport in showing them picked off by chicken(expletive removed in deference to the posting guidelines) up on a hill out of view.

Proud to be: politically incorrect, straight, white, pro-life Christian, and of the opinion the spotted owl tastes just like chicken.

make time to call advertisers.

"Peace had a chance"

Do you support the killing of American soldiers by terrorists ?

It would be interesting to see how any consumer product company or image advertiser reacts. I don't know who AC's sponsors are but I can't see ADM, P & G or say coke being really happy with this.

my guess is Pepsi would support CNN's treason. I boycott Pepsi and always tell waiters/waitresses why. Even Democrats in my area (Hudson Valley) don't want to support anti-American policies.

I will never again read of a journalist being killed and not think that it is good ridance.

This is clearly seditious.
Can you imagine in WWII what the MSM would be doing?
the bravery of the misunderstood Nazis, the sincere faith of the Japanese? The poor misunderstood Vichy French, just trying to get by?
Those unsympathetic Jews, and all of their whining about camp conditions.
Those cruel Americans bombing Germany and Japan.
I think we vote with our TVs: Cancel CNN.
Cancel any network that decides it is too 'objective' to show Americans doing good, too objective not too show anything they think makes America look bad, and too objective to not promote the enemy cause.
The heck with them.

will you do after your anger dies down?

There are already legions of blogs from all sides watchdogging the media, as should happen.

You already have dismissed the possiblity of a boycott; petition campaign; and starting your own media company.

You already have distributed to a wide audience your passionate criticism.

Do you now intend to protest outside media companies? Stalk reporters? Dig up their naughty personal secrets? Steal their automobiles? Throw darts at photos of Anderson Cooper?

Seems to me you are doing the best you can do, at least in terms of legal activities. Good luck finding a new idea, though.

Perhaps the best thing you can do if these reports anger you so much is turn off the TV. The only language TV understands is the language of viewership.

...how to we wean America from its addiction to virtual reality? IMO, the real problem isn't CNN, or the MSM in general. It's about Americans being plugged in.

Partisanship...so 20th Century.

One of my favorite scenes in Gladiator --largely because it's good for the metaphors I love to write (and occasionally pull off)--is when Maximus sends an envoy to the Huns in an attempt to avoid imminent battle. When Maximus sees (a) the envoy's horse riding back to Roman lines with the envoy's headless body strapped in the saddle and (b) a mad Hun waving the envoy's head about, the Roman general turned to his aid and said (IIRC), "Well, we have their answer."

We have the MSM's answer. For years, they've known that conservatives feel slighted by them. How does the Washington Post, long viewed as a liberal but professional paper, respond? With Dan Froomkin, whose job is to say snotty things about President Bush. With Eugene Robinson, who does the same thing on the editorial page. If the MSM wanted to market to conservatives, they'd hire decent conservative writers n volumes that approach the liberal voices they feature. They haven't.

Why? I don't think we're the demographic they want to service. If you really care about conservative readers, why hire Froomkin and Robinson?

Since OIF, it's been made quite clear that many in the military feel the MSM cares little for them and is indifferent to their sacrifices. CNN has surely heard this. And, you'd think they'd be smarting after the revelations of Eason Jordan downplaying the nasty nature of Hussein's regime.

So, when CNN runs this video of American soldiers on the verge of death, they're basically sending our headless envoy back to us.

They have no interest in changing. If they did, they'd have changed by now.

Accept it. Move beyond them. Find alterate sources of news. And, in the meantime, trumpet loudly and often WHY you've moved beyond the MSM. And, then dare them to answer you.

haystack, IMO, the MSM already views itself as a belligerent against conservatives. And, it does no good to fight them. What are we to do? Ask them to change? We've asked, and asked, and asked. And we keep getting the same answer, time after time after time.

Enough. Fie on them. People who have no problem enabling jihadhis and think America's soldiers are Untouchables are not people I want on my side. Good riddance to bad trash.

"Who will stand/On either hand/And guard this bridge with me?" (Macaulay)

CNN has lost over half its viewers to Fox News.

The people are showing their disgust with CNN by not watching them anymore.

I think CNN got the message. They have moved even further to the left to hold on to the remaining viewers.

It's not just CNN, of course. It's most of the big city papers, the broadcast networks, even your local news.

I no longer read the Times. I still read my local paper but I am aware of the bias. I no longer watch broadcast news or local news. I get my news from the net, from any source I choose.

The Times is going broke. MSNBC is going under. The broadcast news shows (with Katie Couric!!!) are a joke.

I think people like us are doing the right thing. It's taking its toll.

Yes, but they support our troops and do this for the greater good (and if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you).

Frankly, I stopped listening to these guys a long time ago. If anyone actually engages in supporting this bilge, they truly need to take a good look in the mirror.

Here is how I prefer to answer this nonsense. Supporting the cause of people like Eddie Ryan, who was shot in Iraq and lived.
Give if you can and show you really support the troops in a meaningful way.

"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori"

if you care to go back to a post I did back in June about Capt. Funkhouser giving his life to save a CNN embed, you may remember the frustration many of us felt at his name being reported as "a US soldier" while her name was all you read about. CJ did a piece called "A US Soldier" and interviewed the Funkhouser family. I went to the funeral as a member of the Patriotguard.

A few months forward, and this SAME company is now doing this to the SAME people who saved one of their own.

You are right that I can't DO anything to them, but I can try. I can try to effect their stock values (as I am told Savage suggested yeterday on air supposedly)by writing letters to their advertisers, or barring success at that, do blog posts and letters to editors of newspapers that carry ads for the same companies that advertise with CNN.

I can, and just did, contact MRC...a big anti-media-bias outfit who has a great deal of resources beyond my scope. I can and am in the process of writing to the CNN management and staff, and will subsequently share my thoughts with Cooper directly (not that will do anything more than give them all something to chuckle about over coffee in the break room or throwing back a scotch rocks tonight...but I will FEEL better for trying.

And, you are all right that I can "not" consume their claptrap...but I already DON'T except for today when I heard Limbaugh, and had to go see for myself...I really DO live in the sticks-we don't have cable in my town...so a boycott is easy and free.

There may be no criminal statute to associate with what you did to the honor of our soldiers, or the reverance and respect that should be paid when one falls in the line of duty for his country, but you Mr. Cooper and the trash your company CNN slings across the airwaves is criminal nonetheless.

A few short months ago, a husband and father and son named Funkhouser gave his life and left his family to mourn so the life of one of your reporters could be saved. Your bottomfeeding news organization could do no more than refer to him as "a US Soldier" while you splashed the world's eye with her name far and wide.

Stand on notice, Mr. Cooper and CNN, your shame and dishonor will not go unrewarded. Many of us out here in the blogworld will be working feverishly to see, through your ad revenues and circulation, and viewership, that you are hansomely repaid for the crime(s) you have committed against our Soldiers and the honor of their names and sacrifices.

I won't be watching for YOU on CNN, but please DO watch for me out there in the medium that will someday render you outdated and outnumbered.

I don't get this "declaration of war" on the media talk. These discussions about media bias are pointless, and will NEVER be resolved as long as there is news to report, because everyone hates the "MSM" unless it bolsters their worldview. I find it pretty revealing that Accuracy in Media now seems concerned that Fox News is becoming too liberal, yet any liberal I know couldn't disagree more . . . and neither side is happy with CNN either.

but it has a strong enough connotation to get the point across. And, I disagree that it will NEVER be resolved. As was said somewhere else in this thread, the market (given the right amount of motivation) has a way of driving behavior.

Proud to be: politically incorrect, straight, white, pro-life Christian, and of the opinion the spotted owl tastes just like chicken.

. . . there are, someday, no longer roughly-equal numbers of liberals and conservatives who both angrily complain that the "MSM" isn't delivering the news that each side wants to see. And even then, that doesn't mean that we'll wind up with objective reporting, certainly not when you're dealing with subjects that are either inherently subjective or are too complicated to adequately explain in a few minutes of TV time.

and revert to WWII mode, ie a nation united to defeat the enemy. It seems the liberals haven't seen enough dead American civilians yet to understand the situation.

So you'll keep saying "the liberals" just don't get it, others will keep saying "the conservatives" just don't get it, and that will help unite Americans?

I am beginning to wonder if such a thing is even possible amy longer. Listen to the far left --- America is the root cause of all evil in the world and the world would be better off without this country even exising. Forty years ago that was a view espoused by a very few committed Communist sympathizers, fellow travelers and know-nothing college students. Today it is openly espoused on American campuses and in our press by a larger number of people. It is this faction of the far left is currently driving the Democratic Party.

is little more than vapid rhetoric. It makes people feel better and more concilliatory to pretend that both sides are equally guilty of whatever transgression, but in many cases the misdeeds are simply not equal. CNN chose to air a video of an American soldier receiving a presumably mortal wound. This is wrong on so many levels. It is a grievous offense to the family, friends and compatriots of the soldier. It provides a propaganda boon to the insurgents. And lastly, it is grossly incongruent; CNN has long opted not to show graphic images or those that show Muslims acting poorly lest they excite American anger but they seem to have no problem doing so to get Americans to the polls. A begging, groveling apology by everyone concerned seems to be the absolute minimum this situation demands, and in truth the consequences should be far worse. An active boycott targeting not merely CNN but its advertisers. The yanking of CNN's credentials for embedded reporters, lest another soldier be killed, injured or merely inconvenienced to support their advertising revenue.

that you are fine with CNN acting as the terrorists propaganda arm?

for my taste a long time ago, but I'm just an old crank.

Then the mainstream media is rapidly becoming our senile dementia.

Its not about bolstering worldviews its about accuracy and precision in journalism. They have the precision thing down pat. Its the accuracy piece thats completely absent.

Most of us don't have time to go to Iraq to find out whats happening. Heck most of us don't have the time to attend city planning meetings. We count on the press to be our presence in the places were we can't have one. Right now if you getting your news from the times or the MSM your presence has been bought by people who want to exploit you or its your crazy aunt that nobody in the family mentions.

But in all fairness to Michael Ware, he does things that would make jihadis worry about his loyalties, too.

I direct you to a story I did a while back on SSG David Bellavia who has been recommended for the Medal of Honor.

Scroll down until you get to the text of his citation. You'll see that Michael Ware was with him in that gunfight in Fallujah and helped US troops out in that fight.

and I know Bellavia thru NEBV and Vetsforfreedom...BUT-
Ware doesn't get a pass on this one...not by me anyway.
The problem starts with him and bubbles up to the fools that decided to air it...
I am never going to forget the tone of Ware's voice sounding like a play by play commentator as the bullet is fired and the soldier is dropped...and that his TONE NEVER CHANGED afterward.

Never going to forget...that was somebody's son.

Proud to be: politically incorrect, straight, white, pro-life Christian, and of the opinion the spotted owl tastes just like chicken.

I'm just making the point that Ware has no allegiance to either side.

or forget nor allow anyone else to forget. This was horrible. Would have Ernie Pyle have done this? CNN needs to be pounded about this at every turn and ever pol. needs to hammered on where they stand with this news report.

I was so angry I didn't read the comments so if someone has already suggested this, I apologize.

Everyone has a weakness. With almost all businesses, it is money. Where does CNN get their money? Advertisers. Where do advertisers get their money? From us.

If we could get a list of advertisers on CNN, especially those who advertise on shows like Anderson Cooper, Keith Olbermann, and other deranged liberal morons like them, we can affect change.

The American Family Association just got over 750,000 people to contact NBC and their affiliates concerning Madonna's "crucifixion scene" in her special. That scene is being removed by the network.

I agree with Haystack. The gloves are off and we need to inflict as much pain as possible on these people. They are hypocritical, anti-war, anti-American communists and they need to be dealt with accordingly.

is not a deranged liberal moron (actually his interview of Ahmadinejad was classic). The problem with Cooper is that he is a relentless grandstander and that nothing (the safety of military personnel, the success of this venture, etc etc) is more important to him than personal aggrandizement. And so long as CNN has the access that it does (and the protection it does) he will run absolutely anything, no matter the fallout.

that something stinks here. I am working to confirm, but for now I will suggest there is every real possibility this is a hoax or at the very least a re-packaged, rebundled video from a good while back...and that the soldier hit may not have actually died but rather got up...fought on...and the sniper ultimately was apprehended.

I can not confirm this yet, but if true, the ramifications are in the Rathergate realm. For CNN's & Cooper's sake, I hope I can prove myself wrong. If I do, I will publicly say as much...if I am right, there's gonna be a firestorm by the time I get thru with them.

Does it not seem too convenient let alone highly suspicious just how this videotape was made available to CNN .. ???

"So, tonight, you will see how some Americans in Iraq are getting killed. The killings were videotaped by the insurgents, and made available to CNN. There is no doubt the footage is disturbing to watch. Our decision to run it has not been taken lightly."

I smell a rat. In a sane world, our people in the field doing coverage of the war journalistically would give up the names and places and faces of our enemies.

In this case, there were interviews and exchanges and ultimately a videotape...

Isn't it nice to know the seditious media would rather get a scoop than a bad guy?

They are so ill-educated that they do not know the difference between "objective" and "neutral".

To be objective means you tell the truth, even though you have a horse in the race. To be neutral means you don't have a horse in the race.

Reporters are supposed to be objective. They have never been expected to be neutral. None of the great newspapermen or war correspondents were neutral. But they tried their best to be objective.

This disease is the result of a second-rate education, ignorance of history, poor vocabulary, and the stupidity of creeping moral equivalency.

And see how proud they are in their posturing and preening ignorance, refusing or unable to discriminate between good and evil.

CNN has been s**t for years. Now they're radioactive.

We control the Radio. We have Fox News. Time for Redstate the Newspaper.
Back in the day, each city had at Least 2 papers. A Liberal paper and a Conservative paper. Perhaps it is time to bring that back with the entry of Redstate. I am willing to invest a few hundred and/or thousand dollars in that undertaking...

newspapers in the big cities. Yes, raven, the answer to CNN's speech is blunt speech from us in the institutions they control. Conservatives must become professors, journalists and TV show and movie producers.

party. Bush took the gloves off and actually challenges the patriotism of both the MSM and the dems. Only enemies want defeat for the US and media aiding the enemy's propaganda is akin to treason.
