[update 2:note received from FredHeads USA on the ground in Iowa]

since [the request for help] was sent out, it appears that we're going to be OK on the expense of the table, and we've gone ahead and signed up for that with the Iowa State GOP. The FredHeads and DraftFredThompson.com are now "legit" in the eyes of the Straw Poll organizers. That said, we're still dealing with a number of other ongoing expenses, and any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

[update:link at bottom fixed-mea culpa]

It's Friday morning in Ames Iowa as I type this. No, I am NOT there, but a bunch of Fred supporters ARE, and they need your help. Yes, they need money. The balloting takes place tomorrow. There were promises made about the role they would be allowed to play once IN Ames that have dwindled. New rules and requirements have been set out, and "new dollars" are needed.

From Jeff I give you this:

DraftFredThompson, along with FredHeadsUSA are now together in Ames Iowa to represent the nascent candidacy of Senator Fred Thompson for president of the US.
Thanks to your kind donations, we raised $1002.00 to spread the word.

We had hoped to participate in a booth as an unofficial advocacy group, but unfortunately, we didn't raise enough money to buy in. We used the money to purchase 1000 bumper stickers and 5000 cards, along with hard copies of helpful fredipedia content and Thompson Reports. (thanks Ruger and Shelbysbest) We planned to just hand out whatever we could to anyone interested.

While on the way to Ames yesterday morning, I received word that we would not even be allowed to hand out our collateral on the premises; that we'd be asked to leave. Here's the FredHead post regarding this news...

However, late this afternoon we found out that we had been given a reprieve... we WOULD be allowed to buy in to the "official" event.

I do not make this request lightly, but we are here and prepared... we need $1000 to buy a place at the Ames table. If just half the folks receiving this could donate 50 cents, we'd be there.

I have spent lots of my own money in this pursuit and if worse comes to worse, I'd probably belly up for this, but we can do so much more with just a little help from you.

Here's a link. If you can part with as little as 2 or three dollars, it really could make a difference.

The I'm With Fred, FredHead, and DraftFred initiatives (and a wealth of others) have been motivating things to watch, if for no other reason than their enthusiasm and a sense of "grassroots activism" hard to come by in the GOP in recent years. Yeah, yeah, I know the other "bots" think negative thoughts and the oppos take negative swipes, but the REAL FredFans march on.

As jeffmacguy has already reported here, there is a contingent in Ames to try and rally locals to "Give Fred A Chance™" and consider him as they cast their vote in the straw poll.

As I said the other day, the DraftFred and FredHead contingents that took themselves to Ames to spread the word and try, with no campaign backing and no campaign dollars, was my kinda grassroots activism.

NOW is the time to throw even $5.00 to their efforts. An Ames showing would go a long way to proving two things. One, you don't need jillions of campaign dollars to get to Pennsylvania Avenue. Two, if you have REAL people doing REAL on-the-ground work, you can get to Pennsylvania Avenue.

It is supposed to take you to the California click-thru page, but here is the link once you DO click thru...just in case

Yeah, because I would donate to help a man who doesn't even have the cojones to get in the race and ask for my support like all the other candidates are doing.

"IF YOU ARE WITH FRED"...you obviously are not, slap him around somewhere else please...

The "Here's a link. If you can part with 2 or 3..." works for me.

I donated because you're so giving so much of your self and your excitement is infectious. Sorry it couldn't have been more.

I have been called LOTS of things-infectious is the nicest thing anyone has called me in a sadly LONG time...

people well out there. I am getting pumped about the run!

I think that Romney has spent enough to win, but second would be HUGE for Fred!

Go get em!

I've donated the this grassroots effort. There is no campaign involvement here. This is just a bunch of FredHeads trying to get the word out (and some bumper stickers too).

Good luck FredHeads!

Three of us at http:/draftfredthompson.com have each donated $100 to the dft/Fredhead contingent in Ames.

We are issuing a friendly challenge to members of other Fred sites to match our donations dollar for dollar. If just five other Fred sites can pony up $300 each, that's $1500 that our troops on the ground in Iowa would find very useful.

Remember that these Frednecks in Iowa have spent quite a biot of money out of their own pockets just to get themselves to Ames (not chump change at today's fuel prices) and to pay for food and lodging while they are there.

Who will rise up to meet this challenge? There's no shortage of websites promoting Fred for president, so let us hear from you!

My DOG's AND sled are down in summer, IT'S hot UP HERE so pay pal will help, and bring my good wishes for your fine endeavor--IF YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON--GO TO ::

Quick as a wink ---the wee helper flew you a few.....

Just in case you missed the link, make sure you check out how a grassroots effort can really look here: http://www.redstate.com/blogs/haystack/2007/aug/08/how_a_gop_grassroots_...

I just learned that a dft member (one who wishes to remain anonymous) has donated $200!

That, plus the three $100 donations, makes $500.

dft.com challenges other Fred sites to match this to help our grassroots people in Ames make a great show of support for Fred!

It would be awesome if our grassroots effort helped Fred to place higher than expected in the Ames Straw Poll. Many of us joined the http://draftfredthompson.com movement on March 11th, the day Fred Thompson did his interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News. We continue to add new members daily, and we're motivated to support Fred Thompson all the way!

Do you need a tie-dye t-shirt to join that club?

I'd rather be DEAD than FRED in the HEAD!

Romney/Thompson 2008

If you are WITH Fred!! Please attack Fred somewhere else.

Out all yesterday, just saw this.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.

Cant wait to see how the ImWithFred folks make out with this effort!

I'd love to see Fred finish 2nd to Daddy War-Bucks Romney.

they were successful in raising the necessary funds to buy the "official table space".

Good job to all that donated.
