The REAL Winners And Losers In The "Betray Us" Cabal

[updated: I failed to see the earlier post by brooksrob and offer my deference to his analysis. My intent was not meant to supercede...call this a compliment to his]

Hands down, Georgie-Boy Soros and his foot soldiers over there at you know where are the big winners in the debacle over who said what about whom and whether Congress should be raising its hackles as a show of feigned righteous indignation. Even with his jillions, you couldn't buy the ad time and increased brand placement our friends in Washington and in the MSM have just laid at their now-worshipped feet.

While it might "feel good" to get your panties in a twist when someone you hate (or fear) says something bad about someone you're hiding behind, the kids on the Hill have really stepped in it this time - both sets of the red-headed step children.

Don't get me wrong, the original sin here was a bad one, but to elevate a bunch of kook lunatics (as they exercise their protected right to freedom of expression) to a level of significance worthy of even being mentioned on the floor of the formerly-known-as-hallowed halls of the United States Congress says FAR too much about what our political heroes have come to believe matters most in governing us on OUR dime.

In a message to their cyborg faithful:

Read on . . .

The U.S. Senate just told [us] to sit down and be quiet. They passed a resolution condemning [us] and it has one purpose: to intimidate all of us who care about responsibly ending this war. They wanted to send a message that anyone who speaks unpleasant truths about this war will pay. To make everyone--especially politicians--think twice before they accuse the administration of lying.

We can't let that happen, so we're letting Congress know that they're not going to intimidate us. Can you sign on to this statement?

The hit stats and the flow of donations that will likely result will be a boon for them. And what did we get, for America, in exchange? Instead of beginning to discuss ways to support the Soldiers and sustain the surge sufficiently between now and its drawdown while increasing the pressure on Maliki and the boys to get their heads out of...the sand... we are discussing [they who shall not be named] and whether or not we should ALSO scold those other guys who were big fat meanies when they trashed John "stuk in Irak" Kerry...over two freaking years ago.

While everyone is doing the air high five over handing a "stern" reprimand and condemnation to a group of people who should otherwise be laughed at for their silly antics, the you know who crowd now finds themselves further promoted, further emboldened, and further legitimized. They are firmly ensconced at the head of the big people's table now, and those who would be your Democrat President find themselves muckled on and holding fast to any favor these kooks might bestow on their campaign war chests.

How pathetic.

There's chum in the water, and the sharks are circling. Obama chickened out from even casting a vote, and Clinton had but little choice than to bow before her taskmasters. The response from the new arbiters of national Democrat policy after they were (phhhht) scolded by the Senate? Another excerpt:

Every day, our brave men and women are dying in a bloody civil war this Senate has done nothing to stop. Yesterday, they couldn't even pass a bill to give soldiers adequate leave with their families before redeploying. But they're spending time cracking down on a newspaper ad?

So, we're making clear where America stands. We're releasing a statement from [we] members—and anyone else who feels the same way—saying, "We will not be quiet, we will fight back. We will keep speaking out until Congress forces an exit plan for this awful war."

If I thought I could come up with some really cool play on words that would rile up America (Red AND Blue) I'd do it in a heart beat. You can't GET any better advertising and revenue stream expansion.

More importantly, you can't seem to get people talking unless you hit them, metaphorically speaking of course, between the eyes with a 2 x 4. The problem in this case is that we're talking about who offended whom instead of what we need to do going forward as a country.

You know who may have taken a few shots for "offending our sensibilities", but in the long run, they have succeeded in dumbing down what's left of them. Calling the shots and running the Democrat party? Well, that was just a bonus.

Given the "REAL" in your title, I was expecting to see much less consistency between this post and the post that I presume (perhaps incorrectly) the "REAL" was supposed to distinguish it from http://www.redstate.com/blogs/brooksrob/2007/sep/18/moveon_ad_winners_lo...

If I'm wrong about what the "REAL" was meant to contrast with, please let me know.

Thank you, sir. Very considerate of you; very cool. Appreciated.

Oh, and excellent post. Important point and well argued. Recommended even before that wonderful update ;>

the Hinz rule and how to apply it. The General's fine presentation got threadjacked by The Big Newspaper Picture and the trolls in the gallery. Those of us who wanted to hear the details eventually did, because that's what we tuned in for. I'm afraid that those "just tuning in" remember nothing but the controversy about the newspaper thing.

Hear. Hear.

Jeremiah 33:3

"The General's fine presentation got threadjacked by The Big Newspaper Picture and the trolls in the gallery"

Actually, as with much in the MSM (which you really have to stop following)the opposite is the case:

a Gallup poll reports that 61 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of General Petraeus, up 9 percent in just one week.
Fifty-four percent of those surveyed said they believe Petraeus' plan for removing troops is the right pace or too quick. By contrast, only 33 percent view the withdrawal as moving too slowly.
Pew reports that nationally “57 percent of Americans who read or heard about Petraeus' testimony approved of his recommendations for Iraq, while only 28 percent of respondents said they disapprove. A majority of those surveyed (51 percent) also said they believe he presented the situation as it really is.
US News & World Report’s “Political Bulletin” highlighted polling that found when “[a]sked, ‘If General Petraeus asks for the troop level to remain in place for another nine months, would you approve or disapprove this proposal,’ 54% approve it; 43% disapprove. Independents track the overall response, with 53% approving the proposal and 43% disapproving it. 80% of Republicans back the idea while 67% of Democrats oppose it.”

In other words, gen Petraeus is winning, MoveOn is losing. The message is getting through.

The notion that MoveOn is the kook fringe that has been given legitimacy by the Cornyn Amendment is not correct. MoveOn is a frontline Democratic Party funding organization supported by George Soros and a host of deep pocketed traitors who give money to Dems. It's actually a major Dem group that often meets with media and interest groups to plot strategy and policy. Or it was.

Because far from being a brilliant move by the group, the ad against gen Petraeus was a mistake of such catastrophic proportions that it's only now beginning to be understood. The Cornyn amendment is only the beginning. Watching this group self-destruct will be one of the more entertaining shows over the next year, along with the demise of the "antiwar movement" and most of the Dem Presidential candidates.

Pass the popcorn.

my post just below yours.

to those who do and give them the same advice you gave me--quit watching those partisan hacks. And you're right with the latest poll numbers and what they show. The problem is that their[the trolls] behaviour continues to give talking points to our enemies both domestic and foreign, poll numbers notwithstanding.
Putting a big old spotlight on them just encourages their even-worse behaviour, giving even more aid and comfort to the enemy. If it were up to me, NONE of these idiots would get face time with a camera, much less a write-up in any print media, with the exception of "Mad" magazine.

So what's the advice that you and Septembergurl give: Stay away from the MSM and limit yourself to overtly, blatantly partisan sources of news and opinion? That's scary. Unfortunately, I sense a trend in that direction, on both right and left, but it's bad for the country and it's also a kind of intellectual death for the individuals involved (just a bunch of ideological inbreeding and Known Facts passed back and forth without anyone challenging them). I really hope people reject that advice.

How about you just give me the courtesy of a quick answer to a simple, legitimate, easily answerable question that came following much discussion of the topic. Consideration. Etiquette. And the courage to answer a question that you may feel reveals some weakness in your position. That's all I ask for.

Exit polls are running against you, sir, and the early returns are confirming them.

You seem to be disappointed that no one answered your question concerning the nature of certain advice. Alas, I cannot tell you what janis and Septembergurl were advocating. But I can tell you what I advocate. I think people should stay away from the MSM and limit themselves to overtly, blatantly partisan sources of news and opinion.

The notion that any part of our news-gathering and reporting apparatus is safely in the hands of fair witnesses is preposterous. The Fair Witness is a fictional construct not to be found among the mortals. The issue is therefore whether one is going to deal with news-gatherers who admit to being biased and partisan, or news-gatherers who pretend to be otherwise.

It often happens that those from your side of the Big Ditch hear their own opinions blaring forth from MSM outlets and so come to believe that these outlets speak unvarnished truth. Trust me, they do not sound that way at all to those of us on this side of the ditch. The loaded words, the choice of stories, the willingness to lie in the service of liberal causes and Democratic politicians, all point to blatant partisanship. That these sources claim to be unbiased only makes us despise them even more.

In most countries, newspapers openly call themselves "the voice of labor" or "the communist paper" or "the paper for people who can't brush after every meal." Only in the US do we see reporters pretending to be Fair Witnesses working for institutions that favor nothing. That anyone believes them when they do this is amazing. That anyone would advocate believing them is even more amazing.

that I found myself reading it while nodding away like one of those cheesy little bobblehead dolls. You said exactly what I would have said if I were going to actually respond to BR--only you said it a lot better. Yes, I gave up on the MSM around March 23, 2003 and never looked back. They depress me no end and frustrate me beyond belief when I have already read up on the story and know the side they aren't telling me. Why in the world would I bother to waste my time with such propaganda?

Bob Beckel has stated that the Moveon ad has backfired on the Democrats. New Gallop polling seems to bear this out. Fifty-four percent of those polled said they believe Petraeus’ plan for removing troops is the right pace or too quick. Only 33% say the withdrawal is moving too slowly. The same poll reports that 61% of Americans have a favorable opinion of General Petraeus, up 9% over last week. A Pew poll reports similar approval numbers for Petraeus.

All those Democrats who voted with the Republicans know that Moveon laid an egg.

This just shows the true liberal bias of the MSM. Hardball had the executive director and the director of a freedom organization, Matthews practally sided with Moveonandgetalife.org. This is nothing new though, with the ad, the MSM was able to spread their agenda by repeatedly showing it and reporting on it. Instead of just NYT readers, the entire nation saw the ad. Goes along the same lines of reporting all car bombs in Iraq and not mentioning successes in Afganistan.

and attracts more lunatics, so what? With additional money and lunatics will that put them in a more influential position as we get closer to an election, particularly if conditions continue to improve?

For the sake of brevity, don't bet on it.

Got some free attention.
But Japan got a lot of free press after Pearl Harbor, as well.
Not all free press is positive in the long run.
I would say getting half of the dhimmies in the Senate to disavow moveon.org is not good for either moveon.org or the dhimmies who were forced to vote that way.
And the increasingly clear similarities between the lefties and the terrorists cannot be something they want us to dwell on.
Let Soros and his slimeball partners get more daylight.
Soros is to capitalism what a tapeworm is to health. Exposure does niether much good.

I don't beleive that this should just be a political move because right is right and wrong is wrong and this attack on Patraeus is as wrong as they come and disgusting to boot.

But it does pose a great advantage for the GOP. Patraeus is very popular with the people and they do not like this attack at all. The GOP for moral reason alone needs to really jump on this and slap the Dem monkey upside the head for their own stupididty. Especially jumping on the Dem candidates like Hillary who voted against the resolution condemning Moveon and the chickens like Obama who would not vote.

For some time now the dems have been lock step with their talking points all laid out in advance of most topics of late. They start early and then continue with the same line of thought no matter the facts.

Culture of corruption, Halliburton, the AG fiasco, there are no facts and reality, only talking points and sound bites.

It has been effective.

The best that we have been able to do is wring our hands do the circular firing squad thing in response and wish that someone, anyone, would step up to the plate and HIT THEM BACK.

Well folks Rudy did. While some may regret that it was not their candidate that did it, at least someone stepped up and as a party we should all be grateful that someone is fighting back.

To quote Lincoln, "He fights", that's what we need right now, even if he's not the candidate in the end, lets at least support him for doing what we have all been wanting someone to do for the last few years.

Go get em Rudy!

it may seem like Move-On and George Soros were winners in this debacle, but closer examination led me to another conclusion.

The American people were the 'real' winners.

A series of votes took place in the US Senate this week that denied habeas corpus rights to terrorists and will insure the continuance of the surge at least through June 2008.

Following Gen. Petraeus’ testimony before Congress -

Motion to Invoke Cloture on the Specter Amdt. No. 2022;
To restore habeas corpus for those detained by the United States.
Rejected - Roll Call Vote 00340

Webb Amdt. No. 2909;
To specify minimum periods between deployment of units and members of the Armed Forces deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Rejected - Roll Call Vote 00341

Cornyn Amdt. No. 2934;
To express the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces.
Agreed to – Roll Call Vote 00344

Following the passage of the Cornyn Amdt.

Feingold Amdt. No. 2924;
To safely redeploy United States troops from Iraq.
Rejected – Roll Call Vote 00345

Levin Amdt. No. 2898;
To provide for a reduction and transition of United States forces in Iraq.
Rejected – Roll Call Vote 00346

I do not believe this would have been possible without the unintended consequences set forth by Move-On's despicable ad.

1). Republican support for current policy was galvanized, and the surge will be given the chance to succeed.

2). Although I don't expect Sen. Specter will give-up, the Terrorist Bill of Rights was sidelined for the foreseeable future.

The American people were the 'real' winners in both instances.

To advance these gains through the primary season and the general election, and to drive the point home, any discussion involving Move-On should be premised with: Move-On, a Hillary Clinton/George Soros liberal front-group...
