Good News

There has been a minor GOP upset in Rhode Island.  Political newcomer Steven J. Coaty (R), has decisively defeated  J. Clement Cicilline (D) in the race to replace Paul W. Crowley (D) in the Rhode Island General Assembly.

Moreover, Mr. Coaty won this election by a large margin.  He earned approximately 63% of the votes cast in this election.  Though I should mention that there are a handful of mail in ballots still uncounted as of 1 PM yesterday. Happily though the remaining uncounted mail in ballots are not sufficient to effect the outcome of this election.

Posted at 5:32pm on Sep. 18, 2007 Solutions to Socialized Medicine?

By Herodotus

In recent months the twisted specter of increased medical socialism has been rising in this country (see here, here, here, here, and here).  This specter receives its animus from the rising costs endemic to our current system of semi-socialized medicine (see  here, here, and here ). Ironically this is occurring around the same time that older more established socialist schemes (Social Security, Medicare, etc.) are threatening to bankrupt this republic. (see  here, here, here, and here,). It is clear that the current rates of growth of socialist entitlements will bankrupt this country some time in the not so distant future. The massive costs intrinsic to the expansion of socialize medicine will only serve to expedite the government's bankruptcy. It is also clear then that something must be done to head off the expansion of socialized medicine in the United States. In consequence I have been assembling a list of free market friendly solutions that should work to drive down the growth rate of medical costs.

Posted at 4:29pm on Jun. 13, 2007 Senator Webb on the Subject of Amnesty

By Herodotus

I have created this post in response to a recent request. Included below is a copy of an email that Senator Webb sent me in response to an email I sent him upon the subject of amnesty.

Dear Mr.:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns over current immigration issues.

An estimated 11 million unauthorized persons reside in the United States; this population is estimated to increase by 500,000 annually. Each year, about 1 million people are apprehended trying to enter the United States illegally. Although most of these people enter the United States for economic opportunities, family reunification, or to avoid civil strife, some may have ill intentions.

Posted at 6:38pm on Apr. 20, 2007 Elect this gentleman

By Herodotus

I think that it is high time for this gentleman to run for public office.  He is exceptional on the second amendment.  He has excellent conservative credentials, and is very outspoken about his beliefs. Also, he enjoys a high level of name recognition. Plus, as a rock-star he breaks a lot of the stereotypes about Conservatives, which the left has been using against us in recent elections. I would like to know what other RedStaters think about this subject, so please comment.
