Posted at 12:23pm on May 8, 2008 What this McCaniac wants, another Olive Branch
By IAFstudent555
I want say first and foremost that I was really moved by EPU's eloquent address of Fredhead thought. The opening precepts of what the problem is are absolute spot on, the olive branch itself is for the most part quite fair, and the explanation of the fredhead position was interesting and helped me more fully understand their point of view. In that spirit I will attempt to lay out my own feelings and positions as a McCainiac and why some portions of the Olive Branch rankled me personally a little bit. I don't think it was intentional but rather comes from miscommunication and so I want to lay out my own point of view on this.

The above link is to a BBC story on the good the UAE (United Arab Emirates) SOLDIERS are doing in the GWOT specifically in Afghanistan. This had been a well kept secret, so much so that the majority of people in the UAE didn't even know about it. The story goes on to explain how in Afghanistan, people who are given to fears of the coalition, or anger at being occupied, or given to superstitions such as the Koran desecration nonsense, are giving a warm response to the UAE soldiers.

Posted at 10:43am on Mar. 19, 2008 Obama needs to follow up on his speech
By IAFstudent555
In Erica Anderson's post on Human Events, she puts up some unanswered questions about the Wright issue. While some of the questions I feel are unfair, others are deadon and the Obama campaign cannot think that his speech as put this issue to rest. The speech kept the door from being shut on his candidacy, but he now needs to open it up all the way.
The first question Ms. Anderson submits is that Obama needs to clarify how, when, and where he disagreed with his pastor. This I feel is an unfair question as there is no way to prove one way or another what took place in private conversation and it gets somewhat silly. He has said he expressed his disaproval before and I think to continue with this line of questioning will make conservatives look bad.

Posted at 7:02pm on Mar. 17, 2008 The speech Obama should have given...
By IAFstudent555
...and might give tomorrow in Philadelphia.
"Today I would like to speak to all the people of America about the issue of race in this country. I had hoped to give a speech like this later on but the issue has come to the political forefront and so I will meet it head on.
Lately some sermons from my pastor, Rev. Wright has surfaced. He has been seen calling for God to damn America and other things of that nature. I abhor such comments and reject them in full. While not present for such comments I will not say that the underlying feeling behind them was never evident and I feel that it is best to bring such sentiments out into the open.

Posted at 2:45pm on Apr. 7, 2007 Fighting back was NOT an option
By IAFstudent555
My roommate is in Navy ROTC while I am in Army and we have held many discussions this week, as I'm sure most of you have with your friends and with each other on the Royal Marine hostages.
My roommate holds the view that most of the people here have expressed. That the marines were cowardly and greatly dishonored their country. We watched the press conference and in the middle of it all he yelled at the TV and pulled out his fighting man's code of conduct and practically screamed out the words "NAME, RANK, AND SERIAL NUMBER!" He was angry and practically shouted out quotes at me from John McCain's book about the insane stuff that he managed to deal with while a POW. "Accepting that kind of torture was the norm for those men" I agreed with him. He was angrier that they allowed themselves to be taken prisoner at all. "Why didn't they shoot them?!?! How could they allow themselves to be taken prisoner?" This seems to be the feeling of most of the posts I've seen on Redstate as well, and while there is a visceral reaction to hearing "Fighting back was not an option" I would argue that the people here need to understand the Marines, we should not be angry with them, rather we should be angry at our political leaders.

Posted at 4:38pm on Mar. 15, 2007 The Democrats are the Reason the Surge is Working!
By IAFstudent555
About a week ago I wrote a blog...perhaps more accurately a rant, about how the Democrats were determined to bring about defeat just as Iraq was being turned around. I was furious, throwing around words like treacherous, howling with rage at the injustice of having defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. But the more I thought about, perhaps the Democrats are not treacherous...perhaps they are the reason the President's strategy is working!

Posted at 2:33pm on Mar. 8, 2007 My Vow
By IAFstudent555
I'll admitt it, I'm not the most conservative of Republicans. I don't look favorably on fire-breathing rhetoric and I tend to shy away from those who call Democrats traitors and question their patriotism. My father and I have argued over such things numerous times. I have often said that Democrats were not un-patriotic (although many un-patriotic people are Democrats)but rather misguided. I legitimately thought that their opposition to the war was due to their thoughts that this war was not in the nation's interest. I thought their determination to withdraw American soldiers from Iraq ASAP was because they thought the war was unwinnable and that it would be best to cut our losses.

Posted at 5:50pm on Mar. 1, 2007 A Response to Kowalski's "Meximerica"
By IAFstudent555
In a recent and highly recommended blog post “Welcome to Meximerica” (although personally I think Amexica sounds better), Kowalski wrote about the Mexican “invasion” of the United States. I take issue with this statement and many of the comments that were to follow the post. In this post I will attempt to lay out my views on the immigration debate, hopefully I will be able to contribute something to this argument. I apologize in advance for my lack of computer skills. I wish I knew how to incorporate my links into the text of my articles to make it look cooler, unfortunately I don’t so you will have to make due with my random insertion of links; hopefully this will not prove too annoying.

Posted at 5:30pm on Dec. 8, 2006 Gates was right, we're not winning
By IAFstudent555
I've been swamped with work this week so I couldn't address this the day it happened, or the day after. But basically what I saw was that everyone here pounced on Gates after he announced his few that we were not winning in Iraq. People decried it as the day we lost the war, and that this view hurts our troops, and that Gates was pretty much a moron for holding this view. Which begs the question, do that many red staters really believe we're winning as of right not? Honestly? Not, do you want to win, not do you think we will eventually win, but do you think that as of this moment in history, we are winning the war in Iraq?

Posted at 4:27pm on Oct. 5, 2006 North Korean Nukes, Bad for Bush, Excellent for Intelligent Administration
By IAFstudent555
Now by my title I do not mean to imply that I find the Bush administration to be dumb or incompetant or anything like that. This is not a slur against Bush or anything of the nature. Rather it is my opinion that regardless of how well Bush handles the situation, it will be considered a loss for him because of his statement that it would be a failure of his administration if North Korea got nukes. No, my comment about an intelligent administration is about 2008 and the need for intelligent Republicans to keep the White House so as to capitalize on the advantages and not cave into Democratic demands for "Direct Negotiations".

Posted at 12:56pm on Aug. 19, 2006 An attempt to defend the deal
By IAFstudent555
There has been tremendous criticism of the UN brokered cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel. Many people have derided it as Israel waving the white flag or the Bush administration not being committed enough to its first term neo-conservative goals and bowing to the more appeasing "realist" camp of foreign policy. While it is impossible to dismiss either arguement, I believe there is more to this deal than meets the eye.

Ah my first blog entry. I've been a long time lurker but for some reason I just never got around to actually joining this website. Which in retrospect was rather dumb, but regardless we can only control the present.
