By iamright

Besides true conservatism and a scandal-free background, the most important trait for a President is to articulately pursuade and defend his policies and decisions through his speeches and interviews.  President Bush has highlighted this importance and its impact on convincing America and Congress to support your decisions and agenda.  So who are the top pursuasive and articulate Republican communicators in 2008?

By iamright

Obviously there are very vocal concerns about whether Judge Roberts is "conservative" enough or "originalist" enough.

However, if a Dem was president and (s)he nominated a judge with little paper trail, would lefty Democrats publicly worry hat the nominee was not liberal enough or not activist enough??  For some reason, I don't think so, it would be too embarassing and damaging.

Posted at 6:40pm on Jul. 23, 2005 Scalia should retire, let Luttig or Alito in

By iamright

Scalia is brilliant, but he is 69 years old and fat.  He almost certainly won't last for another 10 years to reach 80 years old, meaning a Democrat will be replacing him if they win in 2008 and again in 2012.

Scalia has had a brilliant run, but for the good of the national long-term, trade your old unhealthy waistline in for someone 20 years younger.  Bush will easily name Luttig or Alito as a replacement and help ensure an extra 25 years of sound jurisprudence.

By iamright

I've always had utmost respect for Newt, and even think he'd be a viable Vice Presidential candidate to a less seasoned President (like Cheney is to Bush).  But his posturing with Hillary Clinton is shelfish posturing indeed.
